Chapter 9 - The Effect of the Elixir.

Ring Bell.

"Welcome to our store." Hearing the doorbell ring, the man got up from his chair and greeted his customer.

"Hello." Luck began to look at the variety of animals in the pet store.

"Is there an animal you are interested in?"

"Any sick or injured animals?"

"Huh?" the man looked at Luck's face in surprise.

"Is there or isn't there?"

"What do you do with sick animals?" the man asked skeptically.

He had had clients looking for different kinds of animals before, from monkeys to crocodiles, but this was the first time he had met someone looking for a sick animal.

"I want to give them another chance."

"Huh?"

"I don't need to ask what happens to sick animals, do I? Unlike the healthy animals here, no one wants them, they are left to die unless they get better on their own, right?"

The man's face flushed with shame. "Left to die is a bit much."

Luck waved his hand dismissively "Do you have any sick or injured pets or not?"

"I have a few."

"Well, show them to me."

He followed the pet shop owner into the back room. There were many different kinds of animals in cages.

"Those two," the man pointed to a dog and a bird.

"The dog has a broken right leg. The owner, the former owner, brought him here for treatment, but when he realized he couldn't afford to pay for it, he left the dog there. I'm only giving him medicine to ease his pain and I was going to put him to sleep today."

"The other is a cockatiel that can't use one leg properly because it is too old."

Ignoring the injured dog, the pet shop owner said, "I'll sell you the bird cheaply if you want."

"Good, I want both of them, not just the bird."

"Are you sure? It's better to put the dog out of its misery. And don't expect the bird to talk for a long time in a new environment."

"Sure, give him some painkillers."

The man shrugged his shoulders "Suit yourself, two animals plus painkillers are yours for 700 dollars."

"Deal."

***

"700 dollars." The taxi driver looked at Luck with angry eyes. He didn't care about the bird, but the wounded dog peeing in his car had pissed him off.

Pulling a thousand dollars out of his pocket, Luck handed it to the driver "Accept the change as an apology."

"I was already taking $400 for cleaning," he thought, but of course, there was no way he was going to tell Luck that fact.

"Thank you."

***

Looking at the old bird and the injured dog in his room, Luck was deep in thought.

"I bought these animals on the spur of the moment, but how am I going to explain it to my mom?"

"Anyway, if they die I don't need to explain anything anyway, if they live I'll think of a way."

Luck took the life fruit out of his cupboard, cut a piece of the fruit, and stuck it in the bird's cage. Seeing the fruit, the macaw moved slowly towards it and started to eat it.

"Enjoy your meal, little one."

He put another piece of fruit in front of the dog to eat, but the poor animal didn't seem to have enough energy to even lift its head.

"How can I get you to eat it?" Luck thought, looking at the fruit in his hand and the weak dog.

"If I can't make you eat it, I can at least make you drink it, right?"

He took the kibble and syringe the pet shop owner had given him to feed the dog and squeezed the juice from the fruit into the syringe.

With the syringe, she squeezed the juice into the dog's mouth along with the nutrient liquid.

"Better than nothing."

Luck thought about sitting down and watching how the animals would react to the fruit, but the sound of the door opening distracted him.

Closing the door to his room behind him, Luck greeted his mother, "Welcome, Mommy."

Luck's mother's eyes narrowed. "What the f*ck did you do?"

"Huh?"

"I said, what the f*ck did you do?"

"..."

"Tell me." Hearing Luck's fawning voice, his mother knew Luck was up to something.

"Mommy, I didn't..."

Before Luck could finish his sentence, a dog barked from his room.

Woof Woof!

"I didn't..."

Realizing that the dog barking was coming from Luck's room, his mother pushed Luck aside and started walking towards his room.

"Mom, stop, I can explain..."

When Luck's mother opened the door to his room, the first thing that greeted her was a dog wagging its tail, and the second was an energetic parrot bird clinging to the wires of the cage and swinging back and forth.

"What are these, Luck?"

Luck, who had just followed his mother into the room, was surprised to see the dying dog and the energetic bird that was too lazy to move and didn't know what to say to his mother.

"Luck, you better give me a good explanation."

***

After convincing his mother to let the animals stay at home, Luck retired to his room and began to examine the dog and the bird.

His 'wounded dog' was wagging its tail happily in front of him, its yellow fur shining like gold and it was obvious that the dog was healthy.

"Except for the scar on your foot, there is no trace of any injury."

The macaw was nodding its head and singing in a joyful rhythm.

"The life fruit is working miraculously!"

The life fruit exceeded Luck's expectations and within minutes had brought a dying dog back to life and a bird that was unable to move due to old age was singing like a baby bird.

Luck's hand began to itch as his eyes drifted to the cupboard.

"We've seen the effect of Life fruit, but what about blue moon grass? I wonder what the effect will be?"

Luck took a pinch of blue moon grass out of his cupboard, ground it into a powder, and poured some into the bird's feeder and some into the meat for the dog.

Watching both animals eat with appetite, Luck sat and watched the animals with anticipation.

One minute...five minutes...ten minutes...

Nothing happened.

"Didn't it work?" Luck put his hand to his chin.

"Didn't it work?" a human-like voice echoed in the room.

"Huh?"

"Huh?"

Turning to where the sound was coming from, Luck locked eyes with the sultan parrot.

"Did you speak?" said Luck, holding out his finger excitedly to the bird.

"Did you speak?"

A smile appeared on Luck's face as he realized that the macaw was repeating what he had said.

"Did the blue moon grass make you smarter?"

"Smart."

"hahahha yes smart you are smart."

The macaw started bobbing its head up and down with excitement and started singing "Clever".

Woof woof

The dog shifted from shape to shape to get Luck's attention, and when he finally realized that Luck was looking at him, he started wagging his tail.

His meaningful gaze seemed to say, "Talk to me.

"Sit."

Woof!

The dog sat down as Luck gave the command.

"Roll over."

The dog rolled over.

"You may have learned this trick from the previous owner..."

Wanting to try something the dog had never learned before, Luck thought for a while.

"Do a backflip."

The dog looked at Luck in confusion. His gaze was like 'How do I do a backflip'.

Luck grabbed the dog's legs and made him do a backflip.

"Did you understand it that way?"

Woof!

The dog turned a reverse somersault with a nimble movement.

"Oh my god, I didn't expect you to do this."

Luck did not expect that something he showed with a moment's eagerness would really be understood by the dog.
