Chapter 11 - #11 : The diabolical pact

Chapter 11: The diabolical pact .

After his temporary exile in the forest, Jacob still didn't understand why his destiny was so dark. He had been wandering in the woods for days, without knowing where he was. Rosée in turn, on her return home, sought to destroy everything connected with her husband, trying to relieve her grief. Angélique, who had been frozen since her father's death, didn't utter a word, and her condition worsened from day to day, to the point where she stopped eating or drinking. Jacob's heart in the forest was dark, hardened as no human heart had ever been, and his time was spent searching for the truth, when all he had to do was believe his father's words. His soul was darkened by remorse and guilt. Night fell and the howling of the wolves could be heard. It was the evening of a full moon, and so Makí decided to make the young man's acquaintance: the night had the effect of fortifying the powers of her scepter. It was at this precise moment that the moon, under the howling of the wolves, was suddenly camouflaged by clouds from nowhere, the sky being clear, a wind also rose and extinguished the embers jacob had placed to warm himself from the cold sleeping in the wild. From the smoke of these embers, sparks flew, and the young man kept his distance to avoid being burned. The howling of the wolves grew louder: animals feel negative waves long before humans do, and a powerful wind blew through the forest, ripping half the foliage from the trees. Suddenly, in the absolute fog, Maki emerged with her scepter in hand. Jacob, surprised and speechless at the sight, looked at the spirit and asked him the reason for his visit, not caring who he was because he was so desperate. Maki, sensing the young man's anger, drew a malignant smile on his face and spoke: "A long time ago, a splendid being was, then demoted, then punished in hell, ended his days, revenge, my dear, is the most exsquisite thing. Jacob, still confused and understanding nothing of the jargon of the mind, asked him again why he had come, and the answer was "vengeance is the most exsqui". The echo of this sentence resounded in the young man's ears, echoing even in the smallest recesses of his mind, and his eyes regained that dark, frightening glow. It was then that the spirit spoke again, saying: at the next full moon, your presence will be required to satisfy your deepest desire. And then Maki suddenly disappeared, the sky was clear again and the night was gradually set ablaze by the soft golden rays that came into contact with the young adventurer's skin and woke him up. Jacob wondered whether what he had seen that night was true or the fruit of his immagination; the only way to find out was to go to the same place at the next full moon. And so as not to get lost, Jacob hung a black ribbon on the bare branch of the large hardwood tree under which he spent the night, and decided to set up camp there, so as not to continue wandering aimlessly. Meanwhile, Angelique was growing weaker by the day, depressed, and Rosée's work day and night to support her family was not enviable; her wrinkled-faced old mother looked after her as best she could, but to no avail.

About a month later, Jacob's thoughts stabilized and his desire to avenge his father increased enormously. This was due in no small part to the pendant that maki's servant had given her that evening, and whose echo of maki's words could still be heard. Day and night, the word "vengeance" echoed in the young man's memory, as he waited impatiently for nightfall to meet the old spirit once more. At last, the hour of their meeting sounded, and again, in the same mist, the lord of the underworld appeared.

The lord of the underworld was pleased to see the reasonable young man, and a pact was made between them, including the fulfillment of Jacob's vengeance first, followed by that of the spirit. Jacob was entitled to seven wishes: these could be natural or supernatural. When the rings reached seven, Jacob would have to leave the human world and go to the spirit world, where he would have to carry out Maki's will. After Jacob had shaken hands with this demonic being, he felt a superhuman energy take hold of him: it was the breath of the lord of the underworld that was offered to him. But the question jacob was asking himself was: why had the spirit chosen him? But maki, who hadn't told him about the prophecy, had planned well, having no sympathy for humans like all immortals. After all, it was their fault that he was in hell for eternity. When the young man returned home, he found his sister in agony, and when he learned the cause of her illness, he grabbed her and shook her, begging her to stop this madness, as he didn't want to lose her too.Angelique drew a small smile on her exhausted angel's face and shook hands with her brother, in whom, even if everyone saw an evil being, she saw the tender boy with whom she had grown up and who was gentle and kind. As the days passed and Angelica improved, Jacob's joy was so great that he put his vengeance aside for a while, but to provide for his sister, Jacob soiled his hands in debauchery and prostitution and gave himself over to theft and rapine, since honest work would bring no profit. His heart grew petrified day after day in theft and night after night with women and men in orgies and drunkenness. The only thing of value to the young man now was his family. He had to provide for his exhausted mother, who spent her days ransacking the homes of the wealthiest in order to get something to eat, and avenge his father. The first stage of revenge consisted in eradicating the evil at its root by destroying all the members of his family, leaving the privilege of the end to his dear tent, for whom he reserved another torment. After her husband's death, Rosée had a heavy inheritance to preserve: her children! Her husband, who had worked long and hard to ensure that his family had everything they needed, was now gone. Maki in turn used Jacob, the chosen one of prophecy, to accomplish his vindictive plans. But who will be the smartest: the two of them looking out for their own interests?
