'So my squad mates are...'
"Daima Koro, Gila Ann, Agani Lanira, Rakasa Linx... All together we're ten? Is this normal?" Kazi spoke to himself, it was quite confusing. This squad contained the most students in it. The name of their squad leader was also there, but Kazi had no idea who it was, so he committed the name to memory for future purposes.
"Daru Shama."
Kazi looked around and noticed that people were starting to gather, so he walked away from there before it became overly crowded.
When thinking back to the names in the same squad he was, Kazi could recognise some of the names and who they belonged to, and right away, he felt disgust towards one of them.
"Agani Lanira... Nothing but trouble." He said under breath. Of course, she was from the Agani clan, the clan which the current Amon of Atar was from. This very thing gave her all the ego two blonde gals from a beach rich city would ever need. Of course, the only thing separating the two was the fact that Lanira wasn't empty upstairs.
That was all for that day, the next day was the graduation day and also the day when they would get their bands that identified them as sutori of Atar. These bands would be more like field signs in present day army and such, which are unofficial differentiating marks worn on a combatant clothing to show the difference between friend and foe, or a combatant and a civilian. In this world, it served both purposes.
The band was to be worn on the left arm, much like sportsmen would wear a captain's hand-band.
Kazi amongst others walked up to collect their red arm bands that spotted a unique emblem of Tak Atar which was a ball of flame resting on two sideways animal skulls.
One might ask if this is any good? After all, the enemy could just make an identical band and use it to infiltrate the other's forces or kill one of the enemy's sutori and take their band. Well, then you would also have to reason that even in our modern times, this is still the case. Terrorists could easily and do wear the official military uniform of the state, it's nothing new. How the military gets around this problem however, is really up to them and not for the normal man to understand. It just goes to show that during warring times, there is still some level of honour and codes upheld. As for the sneaky ones however, they know no honour, such petty things mean little in a game of life and death, reality.
Anyway, the day of graduation came and went quickly and after that Kazi could finally call himself a full fledged sutori.
The next day turned out to be a rather unplanned one, though.
Kazi woke up early as usual, ready to step out and do some light exercises. Though he was sure that everywhere was safe, he still had this feeling of not being alone, which bothered him a bit, but he brushed it off. No matter how crazy someone would be, they wouldn't commit any serious crime within one of the major clans in the town. Even though the clan was small and on the weak side in ranking, it was still one of the major clans.
Kazi didn't need to leave through the front door, not only will that noise wake up his mother, it was also unnecessary, after all he could just use his window, a pass way he had gotten used to.
As Kazi dropped from his window, he felt something. This was a very familiar feeling, it was the same one he had when he was attacked by the bandit when he went on a short vacation with his mother and was attacked on the way back.
Kazi was currently mid-air and couldn't turn or evade any attack at the moment, until his feet touched ground first, or so it seemed.
He looked towards the tree in the backward and noticed something, a projectile, flying towards him. he immediately looked passed the incoming projectile to see if he would catch a glimpse of the one who threw the weapon at him. Surprisingly enough, he failed to spot anyone.
In the end, Kazi didn't need to move or do anything, all he needed to do was continue falling to the ground, it was simple, 'it wasn't aimed at me to be an attack.' Because of this, Kazi ignored it completely and focused on getting who the attacker was, though he failed ultimately. Once he touched the ground, Kazi used shadow faint and rapidly moved around, but he would find nothing, not a single of someone being anywhere near his house.
Though it looked weird, after all he did certainly know that this was done by somebody. Then, a sudden realisation came to his mind and he immediately rushed towards his house and jumped to pull the knife out of the wall.
He looked at the wall and noticed that the weapon had left a little dent. Whoever the person who threw the knife was, they would have to be really skilled not to damage property but still throw with enough force for the knife to stick.
Kazi also noticed a rolled piece of paper attached to the knife inside its shallow hollow handle.
Once Kazi opened the piece of paper and read its content, everything fell into place, which meant he could make sense of the awkward situation that just occurred..
'Looks like my squad leader is very talented.'
