Chereads / One Wish to Summon My Cat / Chapter 7 - Settling in Life

Chapter 7 - Settling in Life

Walking down the bustling marketplace with Alex walking a few meters behind her with his head down, Lucy read the Journal her grandfather, Gerald Thornfield, gave her.

The journal was written in easy language, as if Gerald planned to give this to a young child to study.

It gave her some valuable information about market situations in the nearby regions.

Serpentshade and Emberfox region were just two out of hundreds of regions of Frostgard Kingdom.

Just a tiny fraction of land in the north of the Kingdom.

Before reading this journal, Lucy had an impression that her grandfather and even her father, Alduin Paddington, were great figures in the scheme of the kingdom.

Only now did she realize that they were, contrary to her expectation, small fishes in the vast deep ocean.

The south was were the economy, the main scene of the market was playing.

Afterall, located in the south is the capital of Frostgard, called the Sunfall City.

The journal not only depicted the various market situations of the nearby regions, but also a few regions in the path to the capital.

Understanding the situation in the capital is a whole other level that even her grandfather couldn't possibly comprehend.

Gerald said that this journal's content is about his experiences in his younger days.

It's great to study, sadly not to initiate her own business.

There's a long way to go for her.

„Grandfather surely prepared this for the next successor of his business, preferably an heir of the family", Lucy thought while being immersed in the journal.

As for Alex, she completely ignored him for now.

Being taken advantage of to gain an emotional advantage against her family is a no-go for her.

Even if she wouldn't have had an argument with him, she's not so close with him either way.

Maybe ‚she' did, but that's another story.

Feeling a paw scratching her white cat tunica Lucy looked down and saw Freya indicating to wait for the others.

Melissa investigated the situation on the market, together with Tom as her protector.

‚What a Knight he is' Lucy thought about Tom and then looked over to Alex.

Two words apart.

One seeks freedom while the other is an anxious little boy.

But that all is just childish.

They are young boys and girls, even though their development is influenced.

‚Thankfully they have me' she grinned.

‚The meatseeling industry could become one of the opportunities to establish myself in the future'

Half an hour of silence later.

A joyous voice echoed through the center of the marketplace.

Tom walked side by side with Melissa.

While Tom winked the duo sitting near the fountain in the center of the marketplace, Melissa was engrossed in her study.

She scribbled something down while Tom held the basket full of herbs.

„Here we are again. Did you two miss us?" Tom asked while showing her the inside of the basket.

Lucy and Alex took a glance and saw tens of different herbs ranging in all colors.

„Melissa did a great jo-" before Tom could finish, the basket moved and some herbs fell down onto the ground.

Melissa stopped her scribbling and looked inside.

Inside, Freya was nibbling on some catnip.

„Huh, how did she got there?" Lucy asked one wonder.

Melissa through her an angry look.

„Take your cat away, or else-"

„Else what? Why did you buy catnip when there's Freya around?"

The two girls looked at eachother angrily.

‚What is her problem? Ahh, it's just an child. Calm down, calm down'

Tom kneeled down and picked up the herbs that fell out.

„See.. everything is alright. No need to be angry with eachother, right?" Tom looked up again and was met by silence.

Lucy stared back at him, while Alex and Melissa looked to the side.

„Did I do something wrong?" Tom thought.

The time passed gradually.

Two days later, Paddington house.

Lucy sits in the back of the house, eating some berries and enjoying a cold juice.

Summer is coming, and Lucy gradually settled life in this new world.

Even though it's been only three days since arriving here, the feeling of being surrounded by people who actually care about you and the freedom you can enjoy made her life peaceful.

Currently, Lucy is studying the journal.

The promised workers of the Thornfield Caravan are taking care of the farm.

Harvesting, loading the carriages, and selling.

The experience points accumulated to 80 now.

XP (Experience Points): [80/100]

Normally Lucy would be able to earn around 20 XP daily.

But the two Quests of harvesting 100 crops and selling 100 crops changed to harvesting 150 crops and selling them.

The reward thus changed to 15 XP per Quest.

With more workforce, the more XP she can earn.

And the best of all is—

She doesn't need to lift a finger.

The tiring first day changed to peaceful laziness.

Physically lazy at the very least.

„Physical work isn't my best strength" Lucy said while putting a Frostberry into her mouth and leaning back in her chair.

„Instead, thinking is my strength. At least an advantage against others. A sixteen year old girl from a civilized world in the body of a six year old in a medieval magical world."

She then turned to the next page.

The journal had an introduction.

First the money system.

The currency is categorized into three.

First were bits. They are often used for miscellaneous things and everyday purchases.

Then there are chillings. 100 bits make up one chilling.

And lastly, there are sol. 100 chillings equal one sol.

As for other coins, there surely are others.

These are the most basic ones and the ones she should focus on for now.

Step by step, till you reach the height of a noble.

The next chapter of the journal teaches the basics of math.

For a kid this would be troublesome.

But Lucy is no kid.

Two days ago when Melissa was doing her study, she didnt calculate the price or related things.

She worked through her list and ‚investigated' if the merchants sell the needed herbs that can be found in the Clearwater Forest.

Thats the Niveau of a 7 year old girl with no school.

The next chapters of the journal show the adventures and experiences of Gerald in his younger days.

He talked about a plague outbreak in the noth west, in the region nearby of Emberfox.

That region was called Snowbear region.

The plague destroyed the market in the region and opted for more help of the nearby area.

People got sick and the workforce decreased.

Like that a need for healers, a special rare profession of mages was, was needed.

The mages used the situation and healed for a high price.

That's how it works.

There was also a small journal entry before the plague.

That entry was made on the 19th Octobre in year 556 of the Frostcrown Calender.

„Amidst the conflict, where heroes walk, and blood is spilled, where dreams lie dead."

‚What happened during that time' Lucy thought.

Because after this entry, the next one was in the year 562 of the Frostcrown Calender.

A whole 6 years later.

‚Lets leave it at that. Maybe when I grow older he will tell me' she sighed aloud.

Everyone has their unspoken secret.

Good times are sure to come.

There no need to be pessimistic.

‚I will reach level 2 tomorrow. I am ready for a surprise.'

Lucy closed the journal.

It was midday already.

She sat on the chair, beside her was Freya resting.

Knock knock

A knock came from the front door.

Without thinking too much, Lucy stood up and walked inside the house.

After having an argument with Alex and Melissa, the group fell into silence.

And Tom never came to visit again.

‚Was he really feeling guilty? Now I'm the one feeling guilty. Poor boy…'

Knock knock knock

A faster and stronger knocking sounded.

Lucy opened the door.

And in fact, Tom stood infront of her.

His miniature breastplate looked dirty, and he was huffing from top to bottom.

„Lucy… Lucy!" Tom screamed with quick breaths.

„Melissa is in danger!! Help! We need to help her!!"

Then he indicated to the Clearwater Forest.

XP [80/100]
