The corners of Blood Queen's mouth stretched ear to ear, revealing creeping tentacles and menacing barbs within her mouth.
"You wouldn't say no, would you?" she asked softly.
Then, with her arms folded across her chest, Blood Queen turned and walked back into the darkness from which she came.
Listening to her footsteps fade, Charles finally exhaled and relaxed.
"Young man," said the Scavenger next to Charles, smiling, "go on home. But be careful, whatever you do, don't mess with the Malignant Spirits. They'll cling to you forever."
Charles quickly thanked him, "Thank you for saving me earlier; I would have been in real danger."
