Chapter 2 - Someone To Trust

Sirius sits up in his bed, waking up from the dream. He hates remembering that day. He can't believe that he has survived 2 years and managed to stay human. He looks around, only to see the broken down house, and windows boarded up using wood. He looks down to see his hands, ensuring he is still human as he does every day. His skin looks fine, he still lives another day as a human. He walks up to one of the cabinets in the kitchen, where he once found his parents lying, dead, on his 16th birthday. He hates going into that place, but he has to. He looks inside the cabinet, trying to find some food to eat only to realize he has no more food left. He knows that he has to go outside and find some food, although it may cost him his life, but he needs food to stay alive.

He cracks open the door to make sure that it is safe outside. He looks to find nothing outside the door. He breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that he might make it another day. He grabs his white messenger bag and walks out the door, locking it behind him. He walks into the field of dead grass in front of him, hoping to find an abandoned store to try and get some food from. After walking for about an hour or so, making Sirius feel vain, he stumbles upon a gas station. He opens his bag and pulls out a wrench. He swings the wrench at the window, breaking the window, and glass flying all around the area. He walks in, hoping that there is some food left in the gas station, although it could be better. He jumps over the wall that was once beneath the window, stepping over the glass shards. As he walked forward, he could hear the glass beneath him shatter into even smaller pieces. He could feel the glass beneath him, but thankfully his shoes were too thick to get any glass through.

The station was dark inside, so Sirius opened his messenger bag and took out a flashlight, turning it on. He walks around the store full of many different insects. Most of the shelves are empty, with only a few products lying around. A few plants are pocking out some holes in the ground, trying to survive with the little water and light. He walks around, trying to make as little noise as possible just to make sure he is safe. Vampires tend to hide in places to try and find humans. He knows that if there were a vampire, they would have most likely already found him from the noise of the window breaking, but it's better to stay safe than act inadequate. He knew what he was doing, he had been doing this for over 2 years now.

He walks around the gas station some more, to find some canned soup. It was rare to find soup in a gas station, but he was going to take it anyway. He walked around the store some more, trying to find some more food. Aisle after aisle, he got to the end of the gas station, with his messenger bag half-full of food. He deems it good enough and walks past the cash register that is no longer working atop a green counter. Suddenly, he sees something from the corner of his eye… a human-like figure. He walks back to get a better look. The person has dreads and is wearing a grey t-shirt with black jeans. The person turns around, revealing another boy. The boy screams in fright, startled by Sirius.

"Woah! Woah! I'm not here to hurt you" Sirius says in a soft tone. The boy seems to be around his age, if not older. The boy starts to take deep breaths after having a small panic.

"Hey, what's your name?" Sirius asks after the boy has had time to calm down

"I don't like giving that type of stuff out," The boy replies.

"Oh, well if you are okay with me asking, why?" Sirius asks, confused.

"I just… don't want to get attached to anyone for right now," The boy mumbles under his breath, which Sirius can barely hear.

"Well, that's quite reasonable, but I still want to get to know you," Sirius argues.

"Okay, fine, It's Xander," Xander responds. The two talk for a while, finding out that they have a lot in common, and that Xander is only 19! He's only one year older than Sirius. They kept talking, but it was getting time to get back home. They must have been talking for about 4 hours, but it only felt like seconds to Sirius. The two split up, but before they did that, they exchanged phone numbers to talk when they could. When Sirius went home, he was happy that he made another friend today. Sirius went to sleep, excited for the next day for the first time in a while.
