Chapter 9 - I'm married.

"Ms. Cooper, good morning!"

"We are going to the Sawyer Group to talk about the Package Project. Let's go"

Elsie was cooped up in the restroom for nearly an hour before lunchtime and when she emerged, her lips were painted with a bright shade of red.

And so, Kristin and Elsie arrived outside of the Hart Group at two forty in the afternoon.

Staff members from the Sawyer Group's Project Department led them directly to the 48th floor that housed the Sawyer Group Director's Offices.

The front area of this floor was the secretaries' workplace, where three secretaries could be seen attending to their affairs in an orderly manner.

A trace of greed flashed through Elsie's eyes. "Well, I told you that the Sawyer Group is the largest company in Bradford City. You can tell by just looking at this floor. The Hillisde cooperation might be large but we are not on par with them. I heard that President Sawyer is handsome, rich and capable; the most important thing is that he is loyal. If one were to succeed in becoming his woman, I'm sure that she would be the happiest woman in Bradford City."

Kristin couldn't help but smirk when she heard what Elsie was hinting at.

'What to do? I am his wife'

Peter was standing off to one side while instructing his assistant to serve coffee for the two guests.

Soon, Jenson came out of the conference room. He was tall and well-built, his handsome face void of emotion. There were dozens of men wearing suits and leather shoes following him from behind. The atmosphere wasn't grave but it wasn't a relaxed one either. Everyone seemed to be discussing something in hushed tones.

The lot of them left for the elevator since they saw that Jenson still had matters to attend to.

Jenson had taken off his suit jacket, and his necktie was probably too tight for comfort because he had loosened that too. His white shirt accentuated his perfect figure and proportion.

Jenson did not have an overpowering aura, but he had an air of cold and detached indifference to ward off strangers.

Kristin was about to stand up when Elsie snatched the folder away from her hands. "Let me do it!" she stated arrogantly. Elsie carried the folder and followed Jenson into the conference room.

Kristin's gaze reflected her complicated feelings in that instant. Her hip-hugging workwear flaunted her perfect figure and she was smiling charmingly.

"President Sawyer, I am Elsie Foster, the Leader of Team B from Hillside Corporation's Design Department. This is our design draft." Her voice was especially melodious.

"President Sawyer, you can rest assured because the Hillside Corporation will never commit plagiarism. When she placed the design in front of Jenson, she brushed against his arm consciously, as though afraid that she wasn't being obvious enough. Jenson accepted the draft while discreetly avoiding contact with Elsie.

Seeing as Jenson did not push her away, Elsie's eyes flashed with triumph. Then, she glanced at Kristin defiantly.

Kristin glanced at Jenson in silence. I wonder if he hasn't noticed Elsie's intentions or he if is pretending to be oblivious despite being aware of it. Kristin could not help but feel irritated.

--------

Kristin hailed a cab and headed to the hospital. Kristin sat down in front of the bed and was sorrowful, looking at her mother, who had been in a coma for three years.

"Mom, quickly come around, would you? I miss you so much, and I miss talking to you."

"Hey, Kristin."

The ward door opened. Paul Sander, Emily's doctor-in-charge, walked in. With her back facing Paul, Kristin stood up to greet him.

"Hey, Paul"

Kristin and Paul were close friends. In the past few years, Paul had been helping her to pay the medical fees first when she was short of money.

Dressed in a white coat, Paul wore a smile on his handsome face and asked, "Yesterday, I heard from the director that a first-rate medical team from overseas was sent to treat your father. Kristin, how did you…"

Kristin knew what Paul wanted to ask – how she got the money.

 "Paul, I'm married."

 Paul was shocked. "Married?"

In the last three years, Paul helped Kristin generously, and Kristin deemed him an elder brother. Staring at Kristin's side profile, Paul was dismayed by the sudden news.

After talking with Paul, Kristin stayed in the hospital to accompany her father until five in the evening. Then, she bought some groceries in the supermarket and went back to Blues Villa by public bus.
