Li Chen, after entering the home, found Zhang Mei deeply engrossed in packing. He approached her with a warm smile and said, "Sorry I missed breakfast. Need any help?"
Zhang Mei looked up from her task, grateful for the assistance. "You can pack your clothes," she suggested.
"Sure," Li Chen replied, heading towards his room to gather his belongings. As he folded his clothes and placed them neatly in the suitcase, he couldn't help but think about Zhang Mei's mother.
He paused and asked, "How is your mother doing, Zhang Mei?"
Zhang Mei, momentarily halting her own packing, looked at Li Chen with a mix of appreciation and concern. "She's weak, Li Chen. I'm just grateful to you that she can be beside me on her last days."
Li Chen placed a comforting hand on Zhang Mei's shoulder. "We'll go and get her tomorrow. For now, let's sort out everything here."
