Chapter 36 - CH 34 - Police camp

As the girls completed their shopping spree for Yuki we boarded the car and headed towards the north of LA, where Karla's sister lived. Since it was 70 km long road through the city filled with ghouls it took us entire day to get there. I was not able to find any gun shop that was not looted on the way, what surprised me I was also not able to find any camps nor any people at all. All what we came across were large amounts of ghouls and zombies to slay.

As I arrived in front of block of flats where Karla's sister lived Karla pretty much shot out of the car and flew towards the flat where her sister lived. It took her about 10 minutes to come back she was holding piece of paper in her hand as she came out.

"Do we have any lead where to look for her?" I asked.

"She left me a letter, according to what she wrote she joined a shelter in the police station few streets that way, what is weird is that according to her she joined after a handsome young cop she never saw around here was riding around here asking people to come to the shelter in there. Weird is that she is obsessed by cops, she was always after uniforms so she talks with cops daily and normally knows every single one around here. It's quite a coincidence that the cop that was doing the recruiting was brand new so she never actually saw him." Karla answered.

"How much is she into uniform on scale 1 to 10?" I asked.

"Like 18? All her boyfriends were cops and all of them broke up with her because they always had to fuck her while wearing the uniform. Is that good enough answer?" Karla answered.

"Shit so the chance it was just some piece of shit dressed like a cop and she never noticed because she started thinking with something else not a brain is quite high, isn't it?" I asked again.

Karla just silently nodded.

"Ok, I will go check it out. But firstly, we need to hide a car and you will stay here for now. I am not going to risk bringing beautiful girls in there." I spoke.

"Vic you are scaring me. I hope you are just a little too paranoid." Karla answered.

After that I drove a car and managed to hide in some back entrance to a shop nearby. I asked girls to stay there and wait for me. I only took Sheela with me.

Risking bringing girls or beast kin into a potentially hostile territory was not something I was planning to do. If I have a choice I would prefer for them not have to fight people. Killing monsters is one but killing people something entirely different.

I changed into something unassuming and grabbed some basic supplies into a small backpack so I look as ordinary as I could. I even smeared some dirt on my face and clothes. Last thing I did was that I made my weapon and necklace to be visible only when I swap to my battle gear. I wanted to look as normal and average as possible.

Once this was done, I called Karla to the side and had a little talk with her in preparation for what I was about to do. Once everything was ready, I kissed Karla and Brook and embarked towards the station after I recalled Sheela.

It took me about ten minutes to get to the police station on foot. When I started to approach the station, I noticed that there were two guards with guns stationed in front the entrance. Each one holding a shotgun and having pistol on their waist. Both dressed in police uniform with kevlar vest.

I started to slowly walk towards them when they noticed and quickly pointed there shotties towards me and one of them spoke.

"Who are you?"

"Hello I just heard that there is a shelter here in the station and I wanted to join." I spoke trying my best to sound started as I stood on place with my hands up.

"Ah, I see." Both of the guards lowered their weapons. "Come first we need to check you for ghoul bites and scratches. If you are clean, you can go in."

After checkup from the guards that even requested me to remove my clothing in order to make sure I was clean and not going to change to zombie they allowed me to enter. One of them escorted me inside and guided to me a small room near the entrance once we entered the room he started to speak.

"Sit here and wait, somebody will come to handle you so you can go further in. No funny business."

I nodded and looked around the room. It was hard to say what this relatively small room was before everything went to shit but right now it just served purpose of checking in people. There was a small office table with one chair on each side of it, on the table was placed a small light that was illuminating the room. By the looks of it worked on batteries.

I walked towards one of the chairs and sat down. Once the guard saw that I sat down on chair and waited he closed the door and vanished after about 5 more minutes door opened and a person entered the room. It was a man in his late twenties by looks of him in police uniform with a pistol at his waist.

"Hello I am George. I will perform your entry check procedure. No worries it's just some questions that would help us to categorize" His voice trailed off for a moment and he looked like he froze for a few seconds after that he quickly shook his head continued. "Categorize you and put you to work accordingly."

I nodded. "Sure, officer George."

"No need for the officer part, honestly, I am not even the cop, we just use uniforms to distinguish fighting members of the camp, sorry for confusion. Just call me George."

"Hello George. I am Victor." We shook hands and George proceeded to sit on the side of the table.

"So, Victor first things first. Are you awakened?" He asked.

"What do you mean awakened?" I asked a little confused.

"Ahh, I forgot. It's a term we here in the camp use for the people that already killed their first monster and received the blessing from system."

"I see. Yes, I am awakened."

"OK! Do you have a class, Victor?"

"What do you mean class?" I asked, playing dumb.

"Once you reach Level 10 after awakening you are able to choose a class."

"No. I don't have one. I am just level 6. There is no way I would have so big of a level that fast. Did you reached that high?" I asked.

"We have a number of people that either already reached their class or are close to it."

After this he asked me things like if I am willing to fight or if I am willing to contribute by gathering resources. I told him that I am too weak to fight but that I can help with resources. I tried to gleam of some information regarding the camp but he just cut me off that I will learn when the time comes.

Once this was done, he told me that he will have a quick talk with leader and after I will have to meet leader so he can assign me to my group. He asked me to wait for moment where we were and informed me that he will come to pick me up.

About ten minutes later he came back and lead me towards the door to the room slightly deeper in the camp, what was weird was that I did not meet anybody outside George and the two guards until now despite hearing chatter before from around here there was nobody here right now. I just brushed it off and was led towards a door. George pointed to a door and told me that leader is there waiting for me.

"Thank you, George." I thanked and opened the door.

I entered the room there was a one man sitting in the couch right in front of the door about 5 meters away from me and on each side of the room there were two guards with full Kevlar gear and shotguns in hand standing guard.

As I closed the door and was about three quarters of the way towards the leader he stood up and pulled out the gun and pointed it to me.

"That would be enough, now speak why is somebody with class with level over 20 masquerading as level 6 nobody?"
