Chapter 20 - Detention (2)

A long time passed, and Nao's hands were starting to cramp.

Considering the long hours, she persevered through with her sheer willpower, and the silent company of a dear friend, Yuto.

She managed to focus on her task at hand, which was to complete her 5,000 K words of apology for being late.

Getting through the final hurdle, her eyes sparkled with joy as she jotted down the last letter to complete the 5,000 K words.

Fully completing her letter, she couldn't hold back her satisfaction and screamed "I did it!!! Yay!!" As she jumped up and down.

Yuto who was fast asleep from waiting for her, suddenly jolted awake, "H-huh!?" He reacted.

"Minamoto-kun!! I did it!!" Nao exclaimed, beaming.

Yuto blinked in confusion as he tried to process what was happening.

He rubbed his eyes, still half-asleep, and wiped his drool off, then realized Nao's excitement.

"W-what happened?" Yuto mumbled, looking slightly disoriented.

Nao's beaming smile was contagious, and she practically danced around the room. "I finished my apology letter, Minamoto-kun! I wrote 5,000 K words!"

Yuto, now more awake, managed a tired but supportive smile as he finally pulled up the mask to cover his mouth. "Wow, that's impressive, Nao-san. You really worked hard."

Nao's enthusiasm was infectious, and even though he had been napping, he couldn't help but feel proud of her accomplishment.

Realizing the color of the sky, coming from the window, he asks, "What time is it, Nao-san? "

As Yuto inquired about the time, Nao adjusted her glasses that slipped loosely on her nose, and she glanced at the clock on the wall, taken aback by the late hour. "Oh, it's already past 7 PM!" she exclaimed, noticing that the sky outside had darkened.

Yuto stifled a yawn behind his mask. "I guess we've been here for quite a while."

Nao nodded and chuckled. "Yeah, time flew by. I should thank you for keeping me company, Minamoto-kun. This would've been unbearable without you."

Yuto smiled, his eyes reflecting gratitude. "It was my pleasure, Nao-san. I'm glad I could be here with you."

Their eyes met for a brief moment, and in that connection, unspoken feelings of friendship and camaraderie were shared. They might have started the day on chaotic terms, but it had ended with a stronger bond between them.

Nao let out a contented sigh, relieved that her detention was finally over. "Well, I'm free now! Do you need any help with anything, Minamoto-kun?"

Yuto shook his head. "I'm good, Nao-san. I'll just head back to my dorm. Make sure to get some rest, too."

Nao nodded and gathered her things. "Yeah, you're right. I should get some rest. Thanks again, Minamoto-kun. See you tomorrow?"

"Definitely," he replied with a smile, and as they left the classroom together, Nao couldn't help but feel grateful for the unexpected turn of events that had brought her closer to her friend.

I should turn this in tomorrow. Nao thought.
