Chapter 22 - Veil of Ambition

Saskia stepped out of the sleek black car, her heels clicking against the pavement as she made her way toward the upscale restaurant. The establishment was known for its exclusivity, catering to the elite, and today it serves as the meeting place for an important discussion that could shape the next phase of her career—and possibly more.

As she entered the restaurant, the maître d' greeted her with a polite bow, recognizing her immediately. "Miss Saskia, Director Liu is waiting for you in the private room. Please, follow me."

Saskia nodded slightly, her expression serene as she followed him through the opulent dining area. The room was tastefully decorated, exuding an air of quiet sophistication. Thick velvet curtains ensured privacy, while the dim lighting cast a warm, intimate glow over the space.

The door to the private room was opened for her, and Saskia entered with effortless grace. Director Liu, a man in his late forties with a calm demeanor and an eye for talent, rose to greet her.

"Miss Saskia, thank you for coming," he said, extending his hand.

"Director Liu," Saskia replied with a polite smile as she shook his hand. "Thank you for inviting me."

They exchanged pleasantries before Saskia took a seat across from him at the elegantly set table. As the waiter poured tea into delicate porcelain cups, Director Liu wasted no time in getting to the point.

"I've been wanting to meet with you for some time now," Director Liu began, his tone measured. "I'm sure you're aware of the project I've been attached to—'The Split Veil.'"

Saskia nodded, taking a sip of her tea. "Yes, I've heard of it. It's one of Sparkle Entertainment's most anticipated projects."

"Indeed," Liu said, his gaze steady. "This project has been in the works for three years. Celeste, the scriptwriter and producer, has been exceptionally particular about the casting. We've been searching for an actress who not only fits the physical description of the female lead but also possesses the acting prowess to bring the character to life."

Saskia listened intently, aware of how crucial this moment was. The role in "The Split Veil" had been highly coveted, and many actresses had tried to land the part, only to be rejected by Celeste, who had full control over the casting decisions.

"Three years ago, I was offered the opportunity to direct this script," Liu continued. "Since then, I've proposed numerous actresses, but none have met Celeste's standards. She's a perfectionist, and given that she's a relative of Zyair Dante, the CEO of Sparkle Entertainment, she has the freedom to be as selective as she wishes."

Director Liu leaned forward slightly, his expression serious. "When I saw your recent work, I was struck by how perfectly you match the appearance of the female lead. Your elegance, your presence—it's as if the role was written with you in mind. But, of course, appearance alone isn't enough. Celeste needs to be convinced of your acting abilities."

Saskia's eyes narrowed slightly, but she maintained her composure. "You want me to audition."

"Yes," Liu confirmed. "If you can demonstrate the same level of skill in your audition as you've shown in your previous roles, I believe you have a real chance at landing this part. It could be a defining role in your career."

There was a moment of silence as Saskia considered the proposition. The idea of being part of an S+ Class project like "The Split Veil" was undeniably tempting. It was a project with immense potential, and the challenge of proving herself to someone as discerning as Celeste intrigued her.

But there was more at stake than just the role. Winning this part could be her way into Sparkle Entertainment, a step closer to getting the attention of Zyair Dante. Saskia hadn't forgotten her ultimate goal—to get close to Zyair's older brother, Aziel. If Zyair noticed her and offered her a contract, it would open doors that would otherwise remain closed. Even though she loved acting from the depths of her heart, she knew this opportunity served a dual purpose.

"I'm willing to audition," Saskia said finally, her voice steady. "I'd like to see the script."

Director Liu's expression brightened with approval. He reached into his briefcase and handed her a thick script, its cover embossed with the title "The Split Veil." Saskia took it with both hands, feeling the weight of the document. It represented not just a potential role, but a significant opportunity.

"Thank you," Saskia said as she carefully placed the script beside her. "I'll review it thoroughly."

With the formalities out of the way, the atmosphere in the room relaxed slightly. The waiter re-entered, this time with the first course of their meal: a delicate arrangement of sashimi, artfully presented on a bed of ice. The vibrant colors and fresh aroma were a testament to the restaurant's reputation.

Saskia picked up her chopsticks with practiced ease, taking a bite of the sashimi. The flavors were exquisite, but her mind was already working, thinking ahead to the audition and what it would mean for her future.

As they continued their meal, Director Liu spoke more about the project, describing the vision he and Celeste shared for the film. He spoke of the intricate layers of the script, the complex character dynamics, and the emotional depth required for the lead role.

"It's not just about looking the part," Liu emphasized as he took a sip of his wine. "The character in 'The Split Veil' is one who carries a heavy burden, someone with secrets and a hidden strength. It's a role that demands a lot from the actress who plays it. That's why Celeste has been so selective."

"I understand," Saskia replied, her voice thoughtful. "And I appreciate the trust you're placing in me to even consider me for this role."

"You've earned that consideration," Liu said with a nod. "But now, it's about proving it to Celeste."

Saskia gave a slight smile, a hint of determination in her eyes. "I intend to."

As they finished their meal, the conversation turned to logistics—when the audition would take place, what scenes Celeste would want her to perform, and how soon they could proceed if she was chosen.

By the time their lunch ended, Saskia had a clear understanding of what lay ahead. The script for "The Split Veil" was now in her hands, and with it, the possibility of securing a role that could further elevate her career—and bring her closer to Zyair Dante.

As she left the restaurant, the script clutched tightly in her hand, Saskia's mind was already racing with thoughts of the character she would soon audition for. She knew this was more than just another role—it was a test, one that she was determined to pass.

The challenge excited her, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to feel the anticipation building within. It was a welcome distraction from the deeper turmoil that lurked beneath her calm exterior. For now, she would focus on the task at hand. The monster within could wait a little longer.
