Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Janet's Hidden Past: Moonstone Pack Chronicles

Janet's POV

I thought that coming to Moonstone Pack was going to be the end of all my sufferings, but unfortunately it wasn't; instead, it was the beginning of another series of tribulations.

The strange thing that's still bothering me is why I always have to fall into the hands of wicked alphas. Firstly, Tony and now the Alpha of the Moonstone Pack, who, despite the fact that he resembles someone who is kind, he's still wicked because, actually, he's about to throw out of his pack a poor girl who has nowhere to go.

"Moon goddess, why me?" I lamented sorrowfully in my heart.

"Hey young lady, are you going to talk or are you going to keep on staring at me like a ghost? His voice jerked me back to reality.

"Ooh, I'm sorry, I said to him brusquely while avoiding his gaze.

"I understand. You are thinking about a special lie that you are going to tell me, right?" He asked me, his brown eyes peering into mine as if he were trying to detect through my eyeballs if I'm about to lie or not.

"By the way, what's your name?" He asked me.

"Janet, I replied brusquely.

"What a beautiful name, he complemented. "Those who answer Janet are usually honest and truthful people, but with the small time we have spent together, I must admit that your own Janet is totally different, he said to me, and immediately I widened my eyes.

"What!" I exclaimed with a surprised tone.

"Yes, of course, Janet, you won't tell me from which pack you came from and why some people who I don't know if they are of our kind or not were trying to kill you, he said to me with an icy glare.

"You see Janet I don't know what you did, but whatever it was, I know that it was terrible, he insinuated, not minding the fact that I was staring at him angrily.

"So tell me, what did you do? Did you kill someone in your pack?" He asked me while peering into my eyeballs.

"Seriously? Are you calling me a murderer? I asked him. My voice echoed in anger.

"No, Janet, that wasn't what I meant, but what would make someone run away from his pack?" He asked me, his gaze fixed directly on mine, but I remained silent while staring at him angrily.

When he noticed that I wasn't going to speak, he pressed on:

"Ok, let's say that you didn't kill someone, but whatever it is, it's very serious, and that's why you don't want to tell me about it, and maybe your parents aren't even aware that you ran away from the pack, he pressed on further.

With that statement, my jaw dropped as he kept staring at me surprisedly.

"You are surprised, right? You thought that I wasn't going to figure it out, right?" He asked me while smiling victoriously.

"You are totally wrong, I said to him, and immediately he furrowed his brow.

"Yes, and you are very poor when it comes to guessing; I mean very bad, I said to him, and immediately he widened his eyes in surprise.

"What!" He exclaimed with a surprise tone.

"Yes, because I don't even know who my real parents are, and that's why I traveled all the way from Oz Pack because that's where they said I could find them, I said to him, but he gave me an unsure stare.

"So you mean you don't know who your real parents are?" He asked me, and I nodded in agreement.

"If you don't know who your parents are, then who has been taking care of you since all this time?" He asked me.

"Foster parents, I replied.

"Where are they? he asked me.

"They are already dead, I replied.

"What killed them?" He continued.

"I don't want to talk about it, I replied brusquely.

"Ok, by the way, sorry for your loss, he said to me, and I nodded without replying.

"So do you have any relatives here? he asked me, but this time around with a calm tone.

"Yes, I have a brother named Leroy, I said to him, and immediately he looked at me surprisedly.

"You mean Leroy Arnold?" He asked me.

"Yes, do you know him? I asked him with a surprised tone.

"Yes, he's one of my best soldiers; he was recently sick, and he went to receive treatments, but he has returned to his duties, he said to me, but I kept staring at him surprisedly because Leroy never told me that he was also a guard in the Moonstone Pack.

"What's with the surprise look? he asked me.

"Nothing, I replied brusquely.

"But why didn't you inform me all this while that you had a brother over here?" He asked me, and immediately I furrowed my brows at him.

"How could I have told you when you were busy accusing me of things I have never done?" I asked him while feigning to be angry.

"Ooh, sorry about that, but as the Alpha, it's my obligation to assure the well-being of my pack, and I can't do that if I'm allowing strangers to integrate my pack without knowing the reason why they left their own pack, he said to me with a warm smile.

"So are you allowing me to stay in your pack?" I asked him.

"Yes, of course, I can't chase the sister of one of my best soldiers out of my pack, and I can't also allow a beautiful young lady like you to become a rogue; my conscience won't allow that, he said to me, and immediately a warm smile buttered my face.

"Do you know that you look beautiful when you smile? he said to me, and immediately I frowned while trying my best not to smile again.

Only if he knew the last time someone told me that I was beautiful.

"You should be smiling often; it brings out your hidden beauty, he said to me, and before I could realize it, I was already blushing hard.

"Janet, I will allow you to rest. First thing tomorrow morning, I will inform Leroy of your arrival, and he will come and pick you up, he said to me while standing up.

"Ok, thank you for accepting me in your pack, I said to him.

"Don't mention it, Janet, but remember, if I discover that you lied to me, I won't hesitate to ban you from my pack, he said to me with a serious tone while heading outside.

When he reached the door of the ward, he turned around and looked at me.

"Good night, Janet, he said to me with a warm smile before exiting the ward.

Once he left, I heaved a sigh of relief.

"That was close, I mumbled to myself before lying down.
