Chapter 2 - Understanding Football!

Evan looked at his status in disbelief while his atrocious football stats might have turned him away and even made him shout at the screen. It was the name that stunned him, Evan Turner.

He never knew his last name he was a safe haven baby, the only thing that was left for him was a blanket which he was wearing, and the cardboard box in which he was dropped.

He didn't even know if he trusted this box but to find out his last name suddenly was a shock to him. He sat there in a daze for a bit before he stood up from his bed and collected the cleats that were behind his door.

His room wasn't big so it didn't take him that long to find the only pair of clean socks he had, he put the shoes on and then slowly walked out of the room. He did all of this subconsciously, as he stared at the status screen.

~Tap~ ~Tap~ ~Tap~

He walked through the hallway and then arrived at the landing, the rubber spikes on his football cleats struck roughly against the floor as he went down the stairs.

Throughout the teenage angst period that he had gone through Evan had accepted the conditions of his birth, even blaming his parents didn't actually help him and he had grown out of that phase. It's just seeing his own name stunned him and the feelings that were suppressed burst out a little bit.

After staring at the name some more he finally saw the rest of his stats, he wasn't an athletic type. He was a little lean, more on the skinny side with almost no muscle adorning his frame.

'Strength makes sense so does speed but why is my endurance so low, I work a lot...' Evan thought as he walked out of the orphanage, the place where they play football was some distance away. The park was mostly monopolized by their group on the weekends but since today was a regular day they had to arrive early and explain and negotiate for the pitch.

'My technical characteristics are so bad... Except for spatial awareness, everything stinks,' Evan thought as he continued looking through the list. '12 defending....'

He closed the panel and looked at the players playing football on the field.

'Wait what's all that?' Evan thought as the whole picture in front of him was filled with color, not only did everyone have a blue name tag floating over their head the important thing was the cone-shaped highlight he could see that pierced through the field whenever someone kicked the ball.

Evan walked closer and nodded to one of the kids from the orphanage, Mark was 2 years younger than him and he also had the same blue screen floating over his head. Evan looked back to the field and discreetly checked it out.

'This kid...' Evan looked through Mark's attributes and sighed, Mark had the potential to play football since his Ball sense wasn't low, he just didn't get much chance since he was smaller than the rest of their group.

Evan shook his head and ignored Mark for the moment, pity is a sin he reminded himself as he looked at the fascinating game that was unfolding in front of his eyes. For the first time, he could see so much. He could see which players were lacking in which area just by how they reacted and moved.

Under each player, a small yellow arrow was shown that told him which direction they were going. The conical parabola was a shape in which the ball whenever someone shot would pass through. If someone was proficient in passing then the cone would be thinner, and if someone was just kicking it at random with power then the cone would be larger.

'This is amazing...' Evan had always loved football but the way the ball moved and the unpredictability of everything fascinated him.

'But why can I see all this, ball sense shouldn't allow me to see this right?' He thought and then focused back on bringing up his panel once again, he looked at the top and there was a small button next to the property panel that spelled out 'Skills'.

Evan clicked it and a whole new screen with a lot of information appeared in front of him. His attention though was focused on the skill that was likely the culprit of him seeing so much.

...

Level 5 Bonus- See the trajectory of the ball flying around the field.]

...

'So this is responsible for me seeing the parabola, I wonder if I get this skill to the max can I predict where exactly will the ball land... no the cone appears before the players even kick the ball.' Evan thought.

He quickly connected this skill to his high spatial awareness, it's just this skill makes it a bit more assisted and visual otherwise he has always been able to judge where the ball will land.

The only reason he was even a member of their Sunday league team was because he was surprisingly good at retrieving second balls.

At some point during the time Evan was busy looking through his panel, David had seen him arrive. He immediately called for a substitution and walked out of the field towards Evan.

"Evan, you okay?" David asked again.

Evan hurriedly swiped the panel away and looked at David, after a second he nodded and David spoke, "Go on then, I saved you a spot..."

"Thanks man!" Evan shouted as he ran into the field. The air felt lighter somewhat as he stepped foot on this grass for one last time.

'Let's just enjoy this for now...'

AN- So a chapter every other day works! or maybe I could squeeze one every day I guess!

Also, I searched for safe haven, and they started in 1999. I know this is not totally accurate but just bear with it...
