Because of the rules of the Instance, the body of the leader would have a brief period of stagnation.
So while the other Zombie Beasts were blown to ashes, his body was temporarily preserved.
Everyone in the arena had devoured other players before and knew that whoever managed to get the first bite could complete the devouring process.
