Chereads / Neglected Prince Midoriya / Chapter 15 - Quirk Assessment Test

Chapter 15 - Quirk Assessment Test

The moment Class 1-A stepped out onto the field, a sudden hush fell over them. The bright morning sun was hanging low in the sky, casting long shadows across the training grounds. Their breath seemed to catch in their throats as they spotted their teacher, Shota Aizawa, waiting with his signature deadpan expression, arms crossed and eyes scanning the group with a cold indifference.

"You're late," Aizawa muttered, not bothering to wait for an excuse. His voice, though low, carried through the air, cutting through the silence like a blade.

A few of the students shuffled nervously, exchanging glances, but none of them dared to respond. Aizawa didn't seem to expect one either. He sighed lightly before raising a hand and tossing a small ball up and down in his palm. The small motion captured their attention, like moths drawn to a flame. They all knew something was coming.

"Today, we'll be doing a Quirk Assessment Test," Aizawa said, his tone flat, almost bored. "No need for introductions, no need for warm-ups. You'll be using your quirks to the fullest."

The class collectively tensed at the mention of quirks. Some excited, others nervous. They knew Aizawa wasn't the type to sugarcoat things, and the lack of ceremony made the reality sink in quickly—this wasn't going to be an ordinary test.

He raised his voice slightly as he continued, "You'll throw the ball as far as you can... using your quirks."

He paused for a moment, letting the weight of his words settle in before continuing. "Bakugou. You're up first."

Katsuki Bakugou, the brash and explosive student who had already made quite an impression on his classmates, stepped forward with a confident smirk. His eyes gleamed with arrogance as he strutted into the circle Aizawa had marked on the ground, clearly relishing in the attention.

Aizawa tossed the ball to Bakugou casually, like it was nothing more than a simple playground game. "You were first in the Entrance Exams, right?" Aizawa remarked, his gaze barely shifting from his tablet. The tone in his voice was detached, but the acknowledgment of Bakugou's achievement only fueled the explosion user's pride.

Bakugou grinned widely, his usual cocky demeanor on full display. "Damn right," he muttered under his breath, his hands already sparking with little bursts of light as he prepared to launch the ball. The class watched with bated breath, eager to see what the boy with the explosive quirk would do.

Taking a moment to position himself, Bakugou drew his arm back and then, with a ferocious roar, launched the ball into the air.

"DIIIIEEEE!!!" Bakugou shouted, the explosion propelling the ball at a shocking speed, the ground beneath him cracking slightly from the sheer force of his quirk.

''Die?'', Class 1-A except Izuku, Izumi and Shota

[BOOM!]

The blast echoed across the field, and the ball shot forward like a missile, disappearing into the distance. The sky was still trembling with the aftermath of the explosion as the class blinked in amazement, stunned at the raw power Bakugou displayed.

Aizawa glanced down at his tablet, observing the results with a neutral expression before announcing, "800 meters."

There was a brief moment of silence, broken only by a small chuckle from Izumi. Her laugh, light and unbothered, cut through the air like a sharp wind, drawing attention from the entire class—especially Bakugou, who whipped around with a scowl.

"The hell's so funny, huh?!" Bakugou snapped, his voice seething with frustration.

Izumi waved her hand dismissively. "Nothing, nothing. It's just... 800 meters? Is that all?" Her eyes glinted with a playful arrogance, though her tone remained light. She was enjoying getting under Bakugou's skin.

Before Bakugou could fire back, Aizawa interrupted, calling out, "Izumi Midoriya, you're up next."

The class perked up again, this time with a renewed sense of curiosity.

The moment they heard Midoriya, they knew who it was. The current princess of Japan.

A murmur spread through the students as they exchanged incredulous glances. Izumi was known in whispers, her reputation far from normal, but few had expected to see the so-called "Princess prodigy" in their very own class.

"The princess?" Sero whispered to Kaminari, his eyebrows raised in disbelief. "You mean the princess? Like, the one people say is royalty?"

Kaminari leaned in closer, trying to keep his voice low. "Yeah, dude. The daughter of our Majesty. Crazy, right? I didn't think someone like her would be in a place like this."

Mineta's eyes practically popped out of his head as he leaned in to catch a better glimpse of Izumi. His expression immediately shifted to a sleazy grin. "Princess, huh? I wouldn't mind serving under her if you know what I—"

Before Mineta could finish his sentence, Shota, daughter of Endeavor—shot a deadly glare at him. The freezing sensation of her icy quirk seemed to pierce the air, and Mineta shrunk back immediately, avoiding eye contact like his life depended on it.

Izumi, unfazed by the chatter around her, stepped into the circle. She glanced at Aizawa, who tossed the ball toward her. Unlike Bakugou's aggressive approach, she caught it effortlessly, the ball hovering just inches above her palm, suspended by the invisible force of her quirk.

The air around her seemed to vibrate with tension as she concentrated. The ball spun slightly in the air, and with a mere flick of her finger, it shot forward.

[BOOM!]

The sound barrier cracked as the ball surged through the sky, almost disappearing from sight in an instant. The shockwave from her throw sent a gust of wind that ruffled everyone's hair. Izumi lowered her hand, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips as she stepped back, all eyes glued to her.

Aizawa looked down at his tablet again.

"900 meters," he announced, though this time a faint smirk tugged at the corner of his usually stoic face. He gave Izumi a subtle nod of acknowledgment.

"Not bad."

The class was in awe. Even Bakugou, who had been so sure of his dominance, couldn't help but frown, grinding his teeth in frustration. But couldn't help cause he knows how powerful his girlfriend is.

Izumi, on her way back to the group, suddenly felt something unsettling. It was faint at first, but then it grew—a feeling of being watched, of someone's eyes on her. She scanned the surroundings quickly, but nothing seemed out of place. The others were still whispering about her performance, unaware of the prickling sensation of malice that was making her skin crawl.

She stopped for a moment, her brow furrowed, her senses on high alert. But after a few seconds, she shook her head. "Must be my imagination," she murmured under her breath, though she couldn't shake the feeling entirely.

Bakugou, noticing her hesitation, shot her a concerned look. "What the hell's wrong with you?"

Izumi blinked, shaking her head once more. "Nothing. Just... felt something weird. Probably nothing."

Bakugou narrowed his eyes at her suspiciously but said nothing more.

Meanwhile, Aizawa was already looking for the next student. His eyes flicked over the list on his tablet before he landed on one name in particular. Without raising his head, he called out, "Izuku Yagi."

Izuku, who had been standing quietly at the back of the group, snapped to attention. He had been too focused on watching Izumi—on how she moved, on the power she controlled. The moment felt almost surreal as he walked toward the circle, his mind slightly dazed, his thoughts jumbled.

Aizawa, noticing Izuku's distracted state, raised an eyebrow. "I'd prefer you paid attention to the test, Yagi, and not other things."

That comment seemed to snap Izuku out of his thoughts, and he stood at the center of the circle, blinking rapidly to focus. He cleared his throat, shifting his weight nervously as he caught the ball Aizawa tossed to him.

The class watched him curiously. Unlike Bakugou's explosive arrogance or Izumi's royal air, Izuku had an aura of mystery around him. He hadn't shown off much yet, and most of the class didn't know what to expect from him.

Taking a deep breath, Izuku tightened his grip on the ball, feeling the familiar surge of his elemental quirks flowing through him. A faint crackle of electricity sparked around his fingertips as the wind picked up, swirling gently around him. His green eyes, focused and determined, flashed with a mix of lightning and wind.

The air around him grew tense as the ball began to vibrate with power.

Without warning, Izuku launched the ball into the sky with a thunderous clap. A flash of lightning streaked from his fingertips, merging with the wind as the ball accelerated at breakneck speed. The force of the throw was so powerful that it left a trail of crackling energy in its wake, creating a sonic boom that echoed across the field.

[CRACK!]

The ball vanished from sight almost instantly, the sound barrier completely shattered. The wind howled, and for a brief moment, the entire class stood still, stunned by the sheer power of Izuku's throw.

Izumi blinked, her frown deepening. Shota, too, narrowed her eyes, clearly impressed but unwilling to admit it.

Even Bakugou, who had been so confident in his abilities, clenched his fists, his expression darkening as he glared at Izuku. It was rare for someone to outshine him, and the fact that Izuku—a boy who barely showed off—was capable of such raw power left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Aizawa, watching from the sidelines, was momentarily silent as he looked down at his tablet to check the result. His face remained as impassive as ever, though his eyes flickered with a hint of surprise.

"1,100 meters," Aizawa stated, his voice calm, but the class immediately broke into gasps and murmurs.

"1,100 meters?!" Mina exclaimed, practically bouncing with excitement. "Holy crap, that's insane! This test is actually turning out to be kinda fun!"

Kirishima, always one to admire strength, grinned from ear to ear, giving Izuku a thumbs up. "Yagi, you're looking seriously manly right now! That was awesome!"

Izuku, who was still catching his breath after the throw, gave a non-expression response. His face was mixed with pride. But, as much as he appreciated Kirishima's enthusiasm, he knew they were in dangerous territory. Kirishima and Mina's excitement was exactly the kind of thing that would make their situation worse.

Izuku brought out his earbuds and muttered under his breath, "You guys just had to go and say that, didn't you?"

Aizawa's eyes gleamed with a hint of amusement as he watched the students' reactions. He let their chatter go on for a moment longer before cutting them off.

"Oh, if you think this is fun," Aizawa said, his voice cold and sharp.

Izuku knew what's coming...

"Then I'll make sure to remind you, anyone who fails this test will be expelled from the class."
