Chapter 20 - Master

You are ready, said Kage San. Chanaka did not know what waited for him outside the gates. He had been training for the last ten years, inside these gates. Completely listening to the Master and whatever he had to teach. His mind had become one with the master. His masters will had become his. He completely trusted him.

Chanaka, called the master. Yes Master, he said. Most of your suffering will now be caused due to expecting something to happen and it occurring. Chanaka did not understand but he tried to grasp it. You will have dreams, you will have desires, as you step outside to the real world. But it may not happen, and you need to be content with that, said the Master. Chanaka nodded. You will face loss, severe loss and experience grief, but you have to be stronger than that, said Kage San who himself was reminded of his own suffering. The loss of his son brewed up a storm in his mind. He could not help but look up at the gods in that instant and curse them and his life. Master! said Chanaka as he saw him get choked up. What sort of god does this? Kage San uttered as he could not help it. He got up with his legs trembling. What sort of god does this? he asked himslef. Give you something precious and take it away the next second, only for you to wallow in pain for the rest of your life. What sort of god does this? as he brewed up a storm causing the whole mansion to shake. Why does god give you joy only to take it away, he said in a much lower tone, as his strength was all gone. "So that we can ease our pain by easing the pain of others," said Chanaka as he stood humbly in front of his master. Kage San sat down and looked at his disciple. He could not help but laugh. He did not expect these words to come out of Chanaka. He was proud of his student. Good, he said. You can go away now, said Kage San. Who closed his eyes. " I wish my son is safe wherever he is," he said and no one knew that those would be the last words that Kage San would ever utter in this world. He had closed his eyes for the last time.
