Chereads / Angel 21 / Chapter 3 - 2

Chapter 3 - 2

It had been a few days since I had received the call from that unknown girl. She may not realise it, but I felt a strong bond with her. I felt compelled to assist her. I tried to brush it off with the boys, but I couldn't.

I required a response. I was interested in learning everything I could about that girl. Why did she feel the need to dial a random number for help? Why didn't she have someone else she could rely on? Who abandoned her? What was his name? I was curious as to what had happened to her, and the prospect of her being alone bothered me.

"DAMON!" Dominique yelled despite being next to me.

"WHAT? I'm right next to you, no need to shout!" I responded.

"Yes, but you don't seem to be in the same universe as us! We've been asking you questions for what seems like hours, but you're completely stumped!" He expressed his concerns in his words. Was I really so zoned out?

"Sorry, Dominique, but I was just-"

"Thinking about that girl? Damon, you must understand. She would have called you again if she wanted to." Lawrence attempted to explain himself to me.

"But Lawrence," I began, but my phone rang before I could finish.

"It's her, that girl,"I remarked, my face beaming, looking for some answers.

Landon said, "Put it on speaker."

"Hello?" I responded. All of the lads were staring at the phone, as if they were having a visual conversation rather than a vocal one.

She was crying again and didn't say anything.

"Hey love. You are free to tell me anything. I promise to pay attention to you." I attempted to elicit a response from her.

"Sh - She is absolutely correct. It's entirely my fault. No one will notice if I simply disappear." I was at a loss for words. The way she spoke and what she said completely crushed my heart.

"Shhh. Don't say that, love. At the very least, you've got me to talk to. What happened?" While the boys gave me a supportive nod, I inquired.

"There isn't anything to say. Nothing to discuss. I just can't do it any longer. None of them are with me." She sobbed. Every sob that escaped her lips tore a hole in my heart.

"Maybe I can help if you tell me what happened?" I addressed her with respect.

"I wish I knew who you were. Someone who hasn't turned away from me since that night. I couldn't have done anything! So why am I being held responsible? Huh? I tried everything I could, but it appears that it was insufficient. Even him. He, too, believed it was my fault." I needed to know everything there was to know about her. It felt like I was supposed to be here, to assist her. You know like I was destined to help her.

"I'm not sure what happened that night, Love. But I can assure you that it is not your fault. It wasn't possible. I'm sure you did everything you could. Please don't blame yourself in this manner. Make no decisions now that you will come to regret later." I replied while Valentino's eyes were welling up with tears.

"I've already had enough regrets. I mean, I have to call a complete stranger whose name I don't even know. Why? Because I don't have any friends who allow me to speak! No one realises!"

"I do! Simply let me in, and I'll-" I was unable to finish because the phone was disconnected. "What is her name? And what is the cause of her loneliness? This is too much for me!" As my hands went through my thick hair, I exclaimed out loud to the boys.

"It's fine, mate! Whatever it is, you will learn about it. If she keeps calling, I'm sure she'll let you in." Lawrence attempted to console me.

"Whatever it is, she is having difficulty. It's nearly impossible to imagine. I mean, I know I can count on you guys if I ever find myself in a scenario like this! However, she appears to have misplaced everyone, as she was forced to call someone she didn't even have on her contact list!" Dominique exclaimed as he raised his hands in the air. I understood exactly what he was saying, and he was correct.

"What am I supposed to do now?" I questioned, completely confused.

"Just wait for her to call again," Valentino murmured, causing me to give him a sidelong glance.

"She sounded so..so..lonely and.." Landon trailed behind.

"Broken." I finished.

I couldn't get her off my mind, and I knew I had to find a way to contact her. But for the time being, all I could do was wait for another call.
