The occasional darting of an employee around the halls constantly put Marcie on edge. It seemed like most were desperately trying to hide or cover up incriminating evidence. It reminded her of the times when she would catch her cousins trying to hide the remnants of their mischievous shenanigans lest they receive punishment for their deeds.
Still, they had seemed so preoccupied in their panic that they paid no mind to Marcie's presence. Perhaps they don't realize that she is an escaped captive? 'Better for me then…'
Marcie was beginning to get the hang of her switch back style of rolling down the hall. The pain has lessened while she sorted out how to best go about it. As long as the hallway felt, it had at last come to an end. As Marcie peered around a corner, she spotted the large windowed office next to a small lounge-like area. "Yes, finally…"
The office itself had been emptied of personnel. There were a bunch of filing cabinets whose drawers were left ajar, clearly signs that someone grabbed them in a hurry. Marcie searched around for any sign of a map that she could refer to but there were none on the walls. What binders that were there had no real information that was useful either.
The last thing she could try there was the computer. Since whoever was in there left in a flustered rush, they must have forgotten to turn it off. Marcie's lips stretched ear to ear.
"Oh my goodness… how careless this person was, and how convenient for me! Perhaps I can find some information to help me get out of this place here?" Well okay, getting out now became one of two priorities. This place kidnapped her and did who knows what to her while she was unconscious. You bet she was going to take this opportunity to snag some dirt on them, if anything to gain some leverage to ensure her safety.
"Now let's see…" Marcie moved quickly. She knew her way around a computer system better than most people in the building. Though Marcie wasn't a hacker, she is a programmer. She knows how to recognize the background functions of programs, or where to find hidden files.
It didn't take her long to uncover some rather startling information. "I need a USB drive…." she mumbled while pulling on all the drawers she could reach. This wasn't really a well-stocked office apparently and Marcie was out of luck.
As though a lightbulb went off in her head, she made a folder on the hard-drive, transferring all the files and information she could grab off the company cloud. Though the computer chugged away in distress at its sudden workload, the lack of purveyors in the vicinity that could catch her was slim. Still, Marcie made it a point to duck behind the desk whenever she caught wind of someone approaching.
Not too soon was it done that Marcie shut down the entire computer, unplugged the hardware from the computer tower and gave it a nice little tap. Marcie couldn't help but give a little grin as she watched the computer tower dissipate into thin air, and just as quickly, a system window popped up to show her that it was safely placed in her dimensional inventory.
"Now for that map…" That elusive map. It was starting to feel like a scavenger hunt set to hard mode. Perhaps that lounge area would have more success. Marcie cautiously rolled herself into the much more open area. Her nervousness had surfaced again as she gripped the edges of the furniture, using them to maneuver her around the room until…
"Oh thank goodness!" There it was, shining brightly in front of Marcie like an angel sent from heaven. A map of the floor! It showed the fire escapes, elevators, stairwells and rooms. She recognized the long hallway she was just in and followed it until she recognized her current location.
What an elated feeling it was to finally have some answers! It looked like an elevator was close and one of the stairwells was next to it. Marcie felt like she could almost taste her freedom.
"Mr. Vargof, it looks like our guest isn't where she is supposed to be." A woman's voice sneered from behind. Marcie froze in terror as her heart sank and spun around to find two people standing behind her. She recognized them from when she peeked while pretending to be asleep. These were the people who took her from the hospital.
"We are under orders to move her to a more secure location." Vargof scoffed and stretched his fingers as he approached Marcie, his slightly hunched figure loomed over her. "You missy, 'aint allowed to leave. You belong to the boss now."
An image of the man's hand reaching down reflected in Marcie's widened eyes.
