Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Shutting down the cameras was a much easier task than Marcie had originally thought. Her lightning ability didn't require any movement of her body, no incantations to utilize. It bent and melded to her will, the rest was irrelevant.

She had heard that some hunters have to make certain movements, poses, or shout out an incantation to use anything involving conjuring. But Marcie wasn't exactly conjuring. In her mind, she was seizing control of the electrical currents that were already around her. The benefit to a technological society, and the fact that all living -and some non living- things give off electrical signals.

She could sense the currents going through the camera in her room. The specific pattern of entanglements within the device. She immediately searched through the floor all of the patterns of flow that matched, not really sure if she even found them. Marcie may be a programmer by profession, but she's not an electrician or engineer.

Marcie needed a distraction though before she could go through with things, but she wasn't sure what. As she was brainstorming ways to escape, an alarm began to sound throughout the building.

"Huh… convenient…" Well, it was now or never. The most subtle sparks burst from all the cameras on that floor, and perhaps a few other ceiling devices, not that she really cared. She could hear the people scrambling outside her room, some were barking orders, others were shouting in response.

'Sometimes chaos is a good thing.' She smirked. Without anyone to watch her now, Marcie yanked all the medical devices off her body and for the first time in days, rolled herself up to a sitting position.

The grunts that followed the stiff aches were only a small representation of how she was feeling. Her limbs had pins and needles as the nerves were waking up again. It was both painful and liberating to move.

Marcie had tried to wobble the bed really hard to test its sturdiness. It wasn't. "Well, this is going to either turn into a fun little slide or I'm in for a tumble." Her goal was to get to the doctor's stool that was tucked away in the far corner. Since it was on wheels, she could use it to get around.

"Sideways is quick, but lengthways is probably safer…" She muttered as she started sliding herself to the foot of the bed. It was more like a stretcher really, which made for an easy tip-over. "These people need to try harder to be more convinc…ehgk!" The bed gave way pretty quick it seems as Marcie ended up barreling down the bed and onto the floor.

Thank goodness for her spatial awareness skill or that fall would have left her completely disoriented. Marcie grabbed the thin blanket from the bed and rolled herself onto it belly down. This should make it easier to move along the floor at least.

The sounds of movements outside her door made her pause. While not as terrifying as that moment in the dungeon, Marcie couldn't help but suspend her breath. Were they going to enter? This could have been all for naught if they did. The idea of killing people, no matter how horrible they were, didn't sit well with her.

'Wait, why am I staying still? There's no window for them to see me…' Silly Marcie. She propped up her hands to her sides and started sliding her body along the floor. Before her awakening this would have been a really hard thing to do, but not anymore. It was almost like all those passive skills she gained that time were meant for this moment. To survive this ordeal.

"Ehh… screw fate…" she scoffed as she grabbed the chair. Getting onto it was a little more tricky. Her wheelchair had locks to stop it from slipping around, but the wheels on this one were as free as a litter of leash-free puppies in a field full of toys. Marcie had to clumsily finagle her way onto this one.

"An award if you please sir…" she chimed to the air with a horribly fake British accent as she finally got herself to a sitting position. Marcie was certainly glad she took out the cameras because, well, that was not only extremely awkward, but took a while to manage. She imagined it could have been hilarious to watch.

"Alrighty, now for the door… that is locked…"
