Bartlett had seen an avalanche before, at Norde, near his hometown on Annable Peak.
Annable Peak is the highest peak in Norde Kingdom and the second highest peak on the entire continent. In the Norde language, Annable translates to "the land where eagles break their wings."
Many towns and villages lie at the foot of the peak, and Bartlett's hometown is one of them. A typical Nordean town, made entirely of stone houses situated beside a river formed by melting snow from the mountain. The population is neither large nor small, but the villagers are simple and hardworking.
Bartlett remembers one summer when there was an earthquake in his hometown. In his memory, the earthquake did not seem particularly intense. He recalls only a few buildings in the town being damaged, possibly killing one or two people, but he does not remember much, which indicates that the town did not suffer severely from the earthquake.
