"I am in, Mr Qin," Senorita uttered almost immediately as soon as she assured that she was safe from Miguel.
In her memory, Senorita could still feel the unease that had settled over her like a shroud when a man at the grocery store had refused to take no for an answer.
That day, Senorita had repeatedly rejected his advances, emphasizing that she was married and her husband was waiting for her nearby. But the man had persisted, his unwelcome attention turning into harassment.
Just when Senorita was about to walk away from the man, Miguel had arrived like an avenging angel.
He had heard Senorita's voice, recognized the desperation in it, and wasted no time in intervening.
In an almost chilling display of authority, Miguel had ordered two of his imposing men, who had been discreetly tailing him, to confront the man who had the right to hit on his wife.
Although, Miguel did not always take his men with him, however, he was going somewhere else and had decided to escort Senorita to the grocery store.
The scene had turned into chaos when the two men came right in front of the man that had previously been harassing Senorita.
Miguel's loyal men had made sure they dealt with the man, in the process destroying goods while the people in the store shook at the undisturbed violence going on.
The security men who were supposed to attend the issue did not even dare to because they knew who he was.
Miguel Li, to the world, might have appeared as a man living a life of affluence and sophistication, but beneath the veneer of wealth and social status, he held sway over a network of loyal associates.
Some would label them as mafiosos, while others dared not speak ill of them in the presence of the ever-present paparazzi.
That day, Miguel refused to go where he planned to go, claiming that he was no longer in the mood and that the meeting be postponed but Senorita knew from the memory how the old Senorita suffered from his wrath when they returned home.
Miguel beat her up, accusing her of being a whore. He asked why she had not outrightly rejected the man when he approached her.
That day, Senorita got a swollen eye but she could not go to the hospital because she was instructed to remain in the house.
In fact, Miguel had his men to lock her at their home to ensure that she did not decide to go out to fornicate again.
Senorita, just because of that incident had failed a big business deal that month.
She could not participate in an online event that needed her expertise as a freelancer translator because of her bruised face.
Miguel's men were not just bodyguards; they were an extension of Miguel's power and influence.
Unknown to many, they dabbled in activities that transcends the edge of legality, and their loyalty to their leader knew no bounds.
To some, they were hardened criminals hiding in plain sight, while to others, they were fiercely devoted protectors.
With a man like that, Senorita doubted she was safe just by running away from him. But now, with this man in front of her, offering her protection, then she could be rest assured that she was safe.
Though, Senorita had no idea if getting married publicly was a good idea because she had not divorced Miguel yet. Right now, everything was confusing with her head heavy, perhaps, this wasn't the right time to think about something like this.
'At least, I have a place to stay now and I am free from that horrible monster.'
'All I need to do now is to sleep and try to think of how to proceed with this new life I have taken on.'
'I must try to stick every memory of me being Anne Mu. But I need to know the right moment to do this. I do not want to squander this new life opportunity.'
'He was transmigrated and did not accept who he was. He thought of a way to go back to his real self too early, however he could not execute the plan. He had a terrific accident and people thought it was normal.'
'I am the only one who knew what exactly happened.'
'It definitely wasn't just an accident.'
'I don't want something as horrible as that to happen to me because I am being stubborn.'
Senorita had no idea that she had been in a deep thought until Lorenzo called her attention. "I see that you are tired. Should we go to my apartment? Seeing that you have no where to go. I guess you will be living with me from now on."
Lorenzo stood up and Senorita did the same and was about to fall back but Lorenzo steadied her and slowly allowed her to stand on her own.
"Mr. Qin, what happens now?" Senorita asked, her eyes blank and from her tone, it was apparent she was tired and craved bed.
Lorenzo leaned forward, his dark eyes locking onto hers. "First, we need to establish the terms of our agreement. This is a marriage of convenience, one that serves both our needs. We'll need a contract outlining our responsibilities and expectations."
Senorita nodded, realizing that this union required clear boundaries to function. "I understand. What about the public aspect of it? How do we explain our sudden marriage to the world?"
Lorenzo's lips curved into a wry smile. "We'll need to craft a believable story, something that can withstand scrutiny. Perhaps we met at a social event, sparks flew, and we decided to marry. We should also keep our relationship discreet, away from prying eyes."
"But didn't you say you will make our marriage public?"
"There is a way to handle it. Meanwhile, are you ready to exit this bar?"
Senorita nodded, pathetically and a tear dropped. Immediately, she rubbed it off with the back of her palm.
'It looks like I am becoming more and more of Senorita. I do not think my real self cries this easily.'
"Yes, Mr Qin. At least, I deserve a small respite."
Lorenzo nodded and brought his attention to his secretary, Davis who was in a nearby seat. "I have finally picked a good choice. Should we go home?'
Davis seemed unsure of what his boss had decided but he had no say so he only nodded, "Of course, Mr Qin."
