Montague Mansion is lively tonight. I am standing in a corner of a lavish garden party and everything about it is boring me to death.
It's my father's beloved wife's birthday tonight and it seems like Mr. Francesco Montague has invited the entire London to our mansion.
My mother turned fifty three today and her looks show no sign of aging. The supermodel who was once was the highlight of every runway in Europe still looks as beautiful as she was in her prime days.
Vittoria Compano Montague. My loving mother is a beauty with brains who stands 170 cm tall and weighs the same as me even at her age.
My mother is the most extroverted person I've ever met in my twenty eight years of life on this planet. She loves throwing extravagant parties and somehow expects me to attend them.
I have a deal with Mrs. Montague. " You have to attend at least four of my parties in a year Aveline! ", is what my mother said after a long discussion on the importance of socializing in life. And today is one of those days.
From top models and social media influencers, to CEOs and politicians, I can see all sort of influential people drinking wine and talking happily while some are dancing to the tune of the slow jazz music.
Well I guess parties like these are indeed a great way of making connections. But they bore me. If anyone would ask me to choose between memorizing the important dates in history and talking to a bunch of people, I would lock myself in a room and start studying right away.
I do not like humans ( except the ones who gave birth to me, my best friend, my secretary and few countable others). I am not a believer of God, but I woke up in the morning today and prayed for minimum human interaction for the day.
But I guess God did not listen to my prayers. I can see my mum walking towards me with few humans. Should I just ignore the fact that they are marching towards me and rush inside?
The thought entices me but I don't want to make mum sad on her special day. Also I don't want to spend tomorrow morning's breakfast time listening to her complaining about me to her husband.
Francesco Montague is one of the most powerful man in entire Europe. He loves me more than anyone and everyone in the world and can do anything for me. But he stands no chance against mum and so he will have to carry on the act of scolding me.
"Why are you standing alone my precious baby? Meet Mr. Rick Johnson, the owner of Glamvents and his son Sebastian Johnson" she says to me with a huge grin on her face.
I put a fake smile and greet them. Sebastian is exploring every part of my body with his eyes as I say my hello. He realizes I've caught him staring at me and so he quickly turns his face away. Such a loser.
"I have heard a lot about you Aveline and the rumors do no justice your beauty. It's nice to meet you dear" says the older Rick as he smiles to my mother. Why am I dear to him?
I fake a smile once again and try to act humble. I look beautiful indeed and pretending I'm not is not my style.
" Let's leave the young ones to talk to each other Rick and go catch up with the others" says my mum and Mr. Johnson quickly nods to it. My mother gives me a smile, a wicked one, at that and I know what she's trying to cook here.
My mum thinks it's time I get into a relationship now and get married in a year or two. And so, whenever I attend any of her parties, or whenever we attend any social gathering together, she makes it her agenda to find me a suitable partner.
Well she has never once forced me into any relationship but her attempts at making me talk to random guys like the one standing in front of me really pisses me of.
I am the CEO of Montague Enterprises- one of the top companies in the entire Europe. My plate is already full of so many important things and making time for dating in my already packed is not an option for me.
I stare at my mother's back as she walks away with Mr. Rick. She makes her way to another group of people and soon mixes in their chatter.
" Hi once again. I am Sebastian and its lovely meeting you Aveline. You look gorgeous tonight."
" Well I look gorgeous everyday Sebastian". I say that blandly as I swirl around. " Did you get a proper look at my back too? Or should I turn around again? I noticed you could not get a view of my back when you were staring at every visible portion of my body earlier"
" I'm sorry if I offended you Miss Montague but considering your beauty, any man's eye would betray them even if they are determined not to take in the lovely sight of yours." He grins widely.
Looks like Sebastian does have balls. I assumed he would deny ogling at me but hearing him throw a flirty response with confidence does make him a little bearable.
" So what do you do Sebastian?" I ask sipping my red wine.
" I am the COO at Glamvents. I basically look over everything at our company" says Sebastian.
" Tell me something about your company then" Well Glamvents is the "it" event management company that is in charge of any and every large scale extravagant event that takes place in London and there's no way I wouldn't have heard about them. But I still ask the question anyway.
What else am I suppose to ask anyways- how was your day or what is your favorite color?
" Well Glamvents is the best event management company in all of Europe. We organize everything from luxurious dreamy weddings to seminars, and art exhibitions to award shows. We literally organize all sorts of amazing events and trust me no one does it better than us" says Sebastian with a glimmer of pride in his eyes.
Looks like he really enjoys his work. And the way he said his company was 'the best' and not 'one of the best' event management companies in Europe kind of impresses me.
Well I guess I was wrong about assuming Sebastian to be a loser earlier. But this does not mean I would go on and date him.
" I am already aware of what you do, so I won't ask about it. However, I am really curious the things you like Aveline". Just as I thought Sebastian was bearable, he gives me a flirtatious smile and I wish someone would take him away.
I look at my diamond studded Cartier watch and its almost ten p.m. I stare at my watch and wait. As soon as the clock hits ten, I look up at Sebastian with a smile, a genuine one this time.
" I would have loved briefing you all about my likes Sebastian. However, I have something scheduled and will have to leave right away. It was nice meeting you." I wave him a goodbye and without giving him a chance to say anything, stride towards the birthday girl.
When my mum forced me into agreeing to attend at least four of her parties, I too had a condition. I agreed to be a part of her crowd only on the condition that I would leave as soon as the clock hit ten and she wouldn't force me to stay a minute longer than that.
Thankfully my mother is standing near dad so I reach up to them and bid them farewell after wishing mum a happy birthday once again.
Tonight was a long one and as I go up to my car, I can't help but feel impatient to reach home and lie down on my bed. Socializing is totally not my cup of tea...
