Chapter 5 - Origins Unveiled

In the heart of the bustling capital city of Eldoria, the Eldenwood Academy stood as a beacon of knowledge and aspiration. The grandeur of the city was matched only by the prestige of the academy, where young talents from all corners of the kingdom gathered to hone their skills and unlock their potential.

Luka, alongside his friends Lyara and Kael, had settled into their new lives at the academy. They spent their days attending classes, practicing magic, and forging bonds that would last a lifetime. Luka's light magic, Lyara's nature and wind magic, and Kael's enhancement of his body with earth magic were becoming more refined with each passing day.

On the other side of the academy, Aran, the boy from Pinevale, found himself at the center of whispers and rumors. His status as a commoner in the midst of noble-born students had sparked curiosity and jealousy among some of his peers. They couldn't fathom why a commoner like him had earned a place in the prestigious academy.

One student, in particular, decided to make Aran the target of his taunts and challenges. He was known as Roderick, a spoiled brat of noble birth who often used his family's influence to get his way. Roderick approached Aran with a sneer on his face, surrounded by a small group of sycophantic followers.

"Why is a commoner like you here, Aran?" Roderick sneered, his arrogance on full display. "You don't belong in this academy."

Aran, maintaining his composure, replied calmly, "I am here because I earned my place, just like everyone else."

Roderick's jealousy and arrogance pushed him to issue a challenge to Aran. "No, you're here because you deceived the king into believing you saved the princess when in fact you did not. You're not a hero, and you don't deserve to be here."

"If the rumor was true, then fight me."

Before Aran could respond, Luka, who had been observing the situation, stepped forward. He knew Aran was being unfairly targeted, and he couldn't stand idly by.

"You want to challenge Aran?" Luka's voice was steady, his eyes determined. "Then you'll have to go through me first."

The duel was set for the first test—the test of magic. As the students gathered in the arena, anticipation filled the air. Luka stepped onto the battleground first, his aura radiating with brilliant light. With a flourish of his hand, he unleashed his majestic light magic, creating a dazzling display that left everyone in awe. Only Luka possessed such a unique and powerful magic.

Lyara followed suit, displaying her mastery over nature and wind magic. The leaves swirled around her, and a gentle breeze filled the arena. Kael, with his incredible physical prowess enhanced by nature magic, showcased his strength and agility.

Finally, it was Aran's turn. As he raised his hands, darkness began to swirl around him, like the depths of a moonless night. The teachers and students were taken aback, for they had never witnessed magic quite like Aran's.

Roderick, feeling threatened by Aran's display, attempted to replicate it with a simple enchantment spell, but it paled in comparison to the complexity and power of Aran's magic.

The second test was swordsmanship, and Aran found himself facing Roderick in a fierce duel. Aran's training with his adoptive father had honed his skills, and he easily outmatched Roderick in combat. Their swords clashed, and Aran's movements were fluid and precise, while Roderick struggled to keep up.

Aran swiftly disarmed Roderick and stood victorious, earning the respect of some and the ire of others.

The final exam was the academic test, and Aran excelled with ease, showcasing his intelligence and knowledge. Luka, however, found himself struggling, unsure of the answers to many of the questions. In the end, Aran secured the top spot in all three exams, with Lyara and Luka following closely behind.

As the day of results arrived, Aran stood at the pinnacle, his hard work and talent evident to all. Lyara and Luka, though proud of their friend, felt a competitive spirit ignite within them.

Luka, in particular, recognized Aran as a worthy rival. He knew that challenging Aran to a duel would be the ultimate test of their abilities and a chance for Luka to prove himself.

With a determined look in his eyes, Luka approached Aran. "Aran, I challenge you to a duel."

Aran, always up for a challenge, nodded in agreement. The stage was set for a clash between two exceptional talents, and the academy would bear witness to their battle of skills and determination.
