Meanwhile, Holland couldn't sleep that night. He was attracted to Zara's beauty and couldn't help but think about her. He had seen when Devon saved Zara from being hit by the car after the event. He watched the way they acted towards each other and suspected that there was something going on other than a boss-secretary relationship.
He watched them go into Devon's car and drove away. He needed to find out if there was something else going on between them and so he also got into his car and followed secretly after them. His suspension came to pass when I saw them lean into each other and share a kiss.
Despite the fact that he was attracted to Zara in a way, I couldn't help but feel like she will play an important part in helping to destroy Devon who was his big-time rival. I knew that in order to carry out his plan against Devon, he had to get close to Zara in one way or the other.
Zara was resolved to leave the previous night's events in the past and concentrate on her work the following morning, so she got up early. She prepared for the day by donning a polished yet fashionable clothing.
She had no idea that someone with bad intentions had already become interested in her developing friendship with Devon. Holland was ready to take advantage of any chance to get closer to Zara and use her as a bargaining chip in his conflict with Devon.
Zara's phone buzzed with a message from Devon as she left her apartment and made her way to her car.
Devon: Good morning Love 😊. I hope you feel better now after yesterday night. Awaiting your arrival at work. ❤️❤️❤️
As she received the message and instantly responded, Zara grinned.
Zara: Devon, good morning 😘. Now, I feel a lot better. I appreciate you. I've just started to leave the house. I'll see you shortly.👋👋👋
After sending the message, she slipped her phone back into her back. She walked out of the house and locked the door behind her before walking down the street. She had to walk down a little before she gets a cab that would take her to work.
Finally she got to the place where she would get a cab. After waiting for a while, a black car stopped in front of her. She looked into the car to see who it was and was surprised to see Holland in the car.
"Mr. Bramston, fancy seeing you here. This doesn't look like the kind of neighborhood you would live in," Zara said.
"Good morning to you too," Holland said with a smile etched on his face.
A blush covered Zara's face and she said,
"Sorry, good morning."
"And please, call me Holland. Mr. Bramston is my father and great grand fathers. And to answer you initial statement, yes I don't live in this neighborhood. I was just passing by," Holland said.
That was a lie he suddenly cooked up. He was waiting for her.
Zara looked at him like she knew he was lying.
"Fine, I came to see someone around here," he said.
Finally Zara believed him and when Holland noticed this, he sighed in relief and quickly changed the subject.
"Come in; let me drop you off at work," he added immediately.
Zara thought for a while before saying,
"I don't think that would be a good idea."
A frown appeared on Holland's face.
"And why do you say so?" he asked.
"You and Mr. Kings, my boss, are not in good terms. I think it'd the suspicious and weird to be seen with my boss's enemy, sorry for putting it that way," Zara replied.
Her response threw Holland into a fit of uncontrolled laughter. Zara looked at him with confusion written all over her face.
"Oh please just get in. Haven't you heard the saying, you shouldn't inherit other people's enemies? Devon and I have our own differences but that doesn't mean, you and I can't be friends. And like I said to you last night, I'm looking for a way to make amends with him," Holland said, lying through his teeth on the last statement.
He had no intentions of making up with Devon.
"So please, can you come in? It's just a harmless lift to work and nothing more," He added.
Zara stopped briefly to think as her gut told her that there might be problems. She decide to ride in Holland's car nonetheless, choosing to have cautious faith in him. Holland kept the conversation light and informal as they traveled to her place of work, attempting to win her over with his words.
"So, Zara, what do you like to do in your spare time, besides work," Holland enquired while being genuinely interested.
Zara acknowledged the effort to make the ride more comfortable even though she was still on guard.
"I love reading and cooking," she said.
"And I have a strong commitment to volunteering at the neighborhood animal shelter."
Holland nodded, putting on a friendly front but concealing his true intentions.
"That's fantastic. I'd love to know more about it and maybe you could prepare me something special one day."
Zara flashed a fake smile wondering why he would say that. There was silence for the rest of the short trip.
Zara thanked Holland for the ride and got out of the car when they arrived at Zara's workplace. She couldn't help but have the impression that her meeting Holland wasn't just a random accidental meeting. She had no idea that their growing friendship would turn into a risky game with her boss's adversary.
She walked into the company's building, greeting, smiling and waving at some of work colleagues. She got into the elevator and made her way to the last floor where her office was located.
"Who was that that dropped you off?" a voice asked as she walked into her office.
