Lisa, a friend and coworker, was standing at her desk when Zara looked around and noticed her. Lisa was standing by the window and from there, you can see the front of the company, the tall buildings , thrift stores and small businesses and even the cars passing by.
In an effort to sound casual, Zara said,
"Oh, that was Holland Bramston."
Lisa arched her brow.
"Holland Bramston? As in, Mr. Kings' competitor?
Zara reluctantly nodded.
"That Holland Bramston, indeed."
Lisa's surprised eyes widened.
"Wow, Zara, you sure are hanging around with the enemy, huh?"
Realizing that accepting a ride from Holland would cause some controversy, Zara sighed.
"I only accepted his offer because I didn't want to come off," she remarked.
Lisa grinned impishly.
"Okay, Zara, I'll do what you say. But take care. With someone like him, mixing personal and professional relationships could be dangerous."
She wondered why everyone was tagging Holland as a bad person. He has been nice to her since he met her. But since he was Devon's rival, she had to keep her distance from him.
"I'll keep my distance from him," she answered.
"That's good. I'll take my leave now," Lisa said and was about leaving when Zara stopped her in her tracks.
"Why were you in my office anyways?"
"Uhmmm… Uhmmm…"
Zara's eyes fell to the A4 papers that were in Lisa's hand. She looked back up to Lisa's face but Lisa was avoiding eye contacts.
"Hold on, have you been stealing A4 papers from my office," she asked her friend.
"Uhhh… just a few times," Lisa said, with a look of guilt on her face.
"No wonder I've been missing a couple of papers," Zara said glaring at Lisa, who flashed her a cheesy smile.
Zara couldn't stay mad at Lisa.
"Just leave my office," she said smiling.
Lisa smiled back and was about leaving when she stopped to say,
"So a few of us from my department would be going to the club tonight. One of us is having a birthday party. I'm inviting you."
"But I don't even know who is celebrating," Zara answered.
"I know the person and he asked me to invite you," Lisa said.
"Oh okay," Zara said, a confusing look on my face.
"I better get back to my office. Thanks for the papers," Lisa said, waving the A4 papers in the air, before walking out of the office.
Zara shook her head with a smile before towards her desk. She sat behind her desk and began to prepare for the day's work. Few minutes later, Devon walked in with a smile. She thought he was in the office all these while.
"Good morning Mr. Kings," Zara greeted with a smile.
"Good morning Miss Smith. Follow me to my office," Devon said.
Devon approached his office and Zara followed behind. Immediately they walked into the office and Zara shut the door behind them, Devon quickly shut the door and pushed Zara against the wall. With the speed of lightening, he pressed his lips against her and engaged her in a long session of kiss. Not that Zara minded. When they finally broke the kiss, it was to catch their breaths.
"And what was that steamy hot kiss all about?" Zara asked as she tried catching her breath.
"Did you read my message this morning ? I said I was awaiting your arrival. When I sent that, this was what I had in mind. I missed you during the course of the night," Devon said.
As Zara peered into Devon's eyes, she couldn't help but flush. Her heart raced in response to his obvious yearning for her.
She muttered, "I missed you too," her voice reeking of longing.
With each passing second, their bond deepened as Devon moved in for another intense kiss. However, just as things were becoming heated, they were both startled by a quick knock on the office door.
Devon dreadedly backed away from Zara, a frustrated expression on his face.He immediately fixed himself up and opened the door. Standing outside the door was Lisa. She looked up to see her boss but instead of speaking, she chuckled and stopped herself immediately.
"Why are you laughing?" Devon asked her.
"Sir, you… You have red lipstick on your lips," Lisa replied.
Zara couldn't help but chuckle secretly at her friends comment. Embarrassed, Devin quickly cleaned it off.
"I was having chapped lips. I thought this was the right one to use," Devon quickly said and Lisa nodded still chuckling.
"Why are you here anyways?" He asked her.
"I wanted to remind you of your meeting with the Finance department in the next 5 minutes," Lisa said, composing herself.
"I'll be there soon," Devon said and closed the door.
Lisa turned around and walked away while Devon took a deep breath to calm himself. Zara burst into laughter at Devon's flushed face.
"Why are you laughing? It's not funny. You almost put us both in trouble by leaving your lipstick on me," Devin said, not smiling but Zara couldn't help but keep laughing.
Devon, seeing how happy she was, couldn't help but join her in laughter. After laughing for a while, they got serious.
"Why didn't you remind me of my meeting with the financial department?" Devon asked.
"If you hadn't captured my lips in yours, I would have reminded you of your meeting, Mr. Kings," Zara said teasingly.
Devon slowly approached, biting his lips and looking seductively at Zara.
"I would capture your lips in mine all day if that's possible cause I love you so much, Zara. You have no idea. You are the best thing that has happened to me all my life. If you're not around me, I feel like I won't be able to function well. I think of you every day, every night, even in my dreams, I see you. I can't do without you, my love," He confessed.
Zara listened to all Devon was saying. Her heart was bearing really fast and she feared it would stop anything.
"Devon…" she started.
