"What is it, Mary?" Aurora whispered, gently stroking her back to try and calm Mary down, but her sobs grew even louder.
"I don't want you to get hurt," Mary finally said, her voice breaking as she started crying. "But I am scared if I tell you, it will only make things worse."
Aurora's heart broke at the sight of her friend in so much pain. She pulled her into a hug, holding her tight as she continued to sob. "It's okay, whatever it is, you can tell me," she whispered, trying to reassure her friend. Her hand repeatedly stroked her back as she cried.
"Promise me you would not be upset," Mary said, her voice muffled in Aurora's shoulder.
"Of course, I promise. You can tell me anything; it won't change how I feel about you," Aurora assured her, trying to comfort her. "No matter what you say, you are still my best friend. Nothing will change that."
