Minutes ago, he had been excited by the fact that she even considered him a big brother, but now the word seemed like a condescending insult. It felt as if he were nothing but a babysitter, an obstacle in her path, and the word served as a bitter reminder of the distance between them. Although he tried to hide it, the feeling kept stinging in his mind, and he hated that it did.

"But my foot?" she questioned, recalling the difficulty she had standing on her own. The path to Mary's cottage was shorter now, yet she still needed Azrael's support to reach the door. A fact not lost on him.

"It should have healed by now," he replied, his tone firm. His statement left her feeling further confused, but sensing the tensed atmosphere, she nodded hesitantly.
