Aurora closed the door behind her and turned to face Mary. "What do you want to talk about?" Mary asked.
"It's about the roses. Why did Adrian ask you to give them to me?"
Mary almost rolled her eyes at the absurdity of the question. Was Aurora blind, or was she playing hard to get? She was sure Aurora had feelings for her brother, so why was she suddenly acting unaware of his actions? "I don't know," she said with a shrug, trying to appear as innocent as possible. "He just asked me to give you those roses, that's all."
Aurora studied her friend's face carefully, trying to detect any hint of dishonesty, but she found none. It only made her more confused and frustrated. Unable to ask for the gift to be returned. she decided to repay him the best way she could.
