Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Effect Of An Angel's Blood

After undergoing an evolution and race change. Morningstar's evolution had given him sharper senses than ever before. Even though the cave was filled with thick, icy fog, he could still make out the white wolves that were charging towards him.

The creatures were massive, easily over two meters tall, and their smooth white fur was perfectly blended with the foggy environment. If Morningstar had been anyone else, he might not have seen the wolves until it was too late. But with his heightened senses, he was able to react just in time.

Morningstar quickly looked down at the snow, which was now up to his waist, and he realized that it would be difficult to move around. But the wolves that were coming for him would have no such problem, as they had adapted to this environment. He was at a clear disadvantage. Then, as if a lightbulb had gone off in his head, he remembered his new wings. _Ah, how can I forget about my wings?_

Morningstar exclaimed inwardly as with a thought, the massive, dark wings sprouted from his back, their dark feathers rippling in the wind. With a single thought, Morningstar began to flap his wings, the action coming as easily to him as walking, perhaps a gift he got from his bloodline.

A blast of wind shot out from his wings, clearing away the fog and snow around him. He could now see the wolves more clearly, their glowing blue eyes fixed on him as they kept drawing closer.

As the wolves closed in on him, Morningstar increased the speed of his wing flapping, feeling his body slowly begin to lift off the ground. It was a strange feeling, like being suspended in the air. He couldn't quite balance himself, wobbling as he hovered a few meters above the ground. But the wolves were not deterred, their glowing eyes still fixed on their prey. Some of them, with a burst of momentum, leapt into the air, their sharp claws extended, ready to tear into him.

Morningstar braced himself for the attack, even when he wasn't balanced in the air, with a thought he summoned his claws and aimed them where he suspected the wolf's claw might hit. Still, he wasn't able to meet the wolf's claw, in fact. Even the wolf missed as Morningstar just couldn't balance himself in the air, one minute he was here and the next it was like he was about to fall.

He was basically just flailing around in the air, his movements clumsy and uncoordinated. It was as if he was a baby bird, just learning how to fly. He was just lucky that the wolf hadn't landed a hit yet. Heck, even he was feeling dizzy and felt like he might vomit any moment now.

_I can't keep doing this,_ thought Morningstar.

_I need to find another way to fight. Maybe there's a ledge or something in this cave, a place where I can stand and face these wolves. And maybe I can find some other advantages too._ With that thought in mind, Morningstar's eyes, now a brilliant gold, searched the walls of the cave.

Suddenly, he spotted what he was looking for, a wide, flat ledge that jutted out from the wall, perfect for standing on. With a burst of energy, he propelled himself towards it. As Morningstar flapped his wings and wobbled forward, the wolves below followed close behind. He could see them dashing through the snow, desperate to catch up to him. But he had a plan. Looking around, he noticed something he hadn't seen before - a frozen river, covered in a thick layer of ice. Without hesitation, he landed on the ice, spinning around to face the wolves.

_I can drag them to this place and break it, making them fall in._ thought Morningstar as he saw two wolves already close to him.

_Gotta finish them before others arrive._ Thinking so, he circulates his qi and sends a fist to meet one of the wolves dashing towards him with its mouth wide open, ready to snap him to pieces. His fist collided with the wolf's head, piercing its skull and killing it instantly. No time for howls of pain, no time for any other sound.

Morningstar quickly grabbed the lifeless body of the wolf and used it to block the oncoming attack of the other wolf. It was a desperate move and one that almost cost him dearly. As the remaining wolf's claw connected with its dead companion, a burst of force knocked Morningstar backward. He slid across the icy floor, his grip on the wolf loosening.

With a gasp, he righted himself and took a shaky stance as he felt like the ice beneath him beginning to crack. Looking at the other wolves finally catching up, Morningstar quickly analyzes his situation.

_The frozen river surface might not be able to hold on for a while. Considering that I have a wing, it shouldn't be a problem to fly away as soon as it breaks. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't be careful as I fear there might be other tricks in this environment._

Thinking so, he spread his wings and flapped his wings while facing the other wolf. With the wing flapping behind, he was propelled forward meeting the wolf who didn't want to retreat. Lifting his claws, he slashes at the wolf only for it to counterattack by slashing its claw to meet Morningstar's claws ahead.

Clang!

The sound of metals colliding echoes as both Morningstar and The wolf is forced to slide backward from the force.

Morningstar's eyes couldn't help but narrow, _This wolf is kinda strong. Are they all this strong or is it the exception among them? Since I was able to kill one. Who knows, I might have taken that one by surprise._

The wolf had no thought like Morningstar as what was in its mind was to kill Morningstar for the alluring blood scent emitting from him. Instinctively, it felt like if he was able to take just one bite and lick Morningstar's blood, he would evolve into something more terrifying.

This was what the system meant when it said every race would hunt him for his bloodline.
