Chereads / A Man Called Morningstar / Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Greeeee~

Morningstar felt a chill run down his spine as the humanoid cat growled at him. Its eyes were burning with an unfamiliar, predatory gaze, and its claws were outstretched, ready to strike. It was clear that the creature was sizing him up, and it seemed to view him as nothing more than prey. Morningstar's grip on his axe tightened, and he could feel his hands shaking. He had never faced such a beast before, and he wasn't sure how to react.

Without further waste of time, the cat leapt at him with lightning-fast speed, Morningstar reacted on instinct alone. He ducked down, just in time to avoid the deadly swipe of the creature's claws. It was pure luck that saved him, had he been even a fraction of a second slower, the cat's claws would have torn into his flesh. Morningstar felt a rush of adrenaline as he realized how close he had come to death. He quickly rolled to the side, scrambling to get some distance between himself and the creature.

With heavy breath, Morningstar berated himself for taking such a foolish risk.

_I should have known better than to fight such a dangerous creature. It would have been safer to just stay away and avoid it altogether, damn, didn't Storm came here when he has no power? How the hell did he pass?_ he thought.

It was a hard-learned lesson, but one that would stay with him for the rest of his life. He vowed to be more cautious in the future and to think twice before putting himself in harm's way that's only if he survives.

4 Minutes Later

The cat was like a predator toying with its prey. It slowly circled around Morningstar, who was now badly wounded and on the defensive. It watched his every move with a cold look in its eyes as if it knew that he was no match for it. With a lightning-fast swipe, the cat slashed at him again, this time raking its claws across his back. Morningstar felt the pain like a blue scorching flame, but he refused to give in. Gritting his teeth Morningstar staggered on his feet, exhaustion coursing through his veins.

As the battle continued, the cat kept up its assault, inflicting one injury after another. Morningstar felt as if he was being pummeled by an unstoppable force, and his strength was waning. The cuts on his body were deep and painful, and he could feel the warm blood trickling down his skin. He was growing lightheaded, and his vision was starting to blur. He knew that he was close to losing consciousness, but he refused to give up. With a surge of strength, Morningstar dashed towards the exit leading back towards their Jayden.

The cat's eyes glittered with a sadistic glee as it watched its prey last struggle. It knew that victory was already at hand, but it was not ready to end the game just yet. It toyed with Morningstar, striking at him with calculated precision. Each strike drew a fresh cry of pain from the wounded man while at the same time, he would drag him back close to the bus whenever Morningstar ran far.

_I ca... c... can't survive any... more. Is this how it feels to ... d... ie? I won't go down that easily! I must inflict some injuries on this asshole even if I... I... need to bite it._

Morningstar was fading fast, but he was determined to go down fighting. He clenched his fists, preparing to make a last stand.

It was now he regretted throwing his axe, if not he would have been able to fulfil his last wish.

With Morningstar fighting to stay conscious and the cat fighting to break his resolve. But as the fight continues the cat gets bored with the game, and it decides to end the fight. With a single, savage blow, it strikes a fatal blow. Sending Morningstar tumbling to the ground, and everything goes black.

Groooooowl

The cat couldn't help but let out a happy growl.

It was fulfilling and exciting for the cat who has been sleeping for days now to finally have fun.

Just then, something magical happened which caught the happy cat unaware.

"Tsk! It's about time." A voice so cold that it could send shivers down any living being's soul spoke from Morningstar's bloody body, like a dark shadow that had been lurking within him, waiting for the opportunity to take over.

With Morningstar's consciousness fading, it seizes its chance. Abyssal's the dark side of Morningstar that even he didn't know existed from his birth and was the one that beat that kid back then has finally shown itself.

With new power surging through Morningstar's body, and his muscles tightening making the blood gush out more, Abyssal stood up on his feet. The look in his reddish eyes was cold and calculating, with a cruel smile playing across his blood-dripping lips a huge contrast to Morningstar.

"Hey Kittie, your time is up."

Abyssal felt in control now, and it had a score to settle with this kittie!

The humanoid cat couldn't help but let out a faint growl as it sizes up Morningstar with a cautious look while at the same time moving back. Its thought was simple, wasn't this the same kid he just killed?

How come he was able to come back alive and was totally different from before?

Meanwhile, Abyssal stood there, waiting for the cat to make its move, the air around them grew thick and heavy with tension. Suddenly unable to take it anymore, the cat leaps at Abyssal, claws extended with the intention of ending it immediately. But to its surprise, Abyssal sneer and simply sidesteps the attack, as if it could read the cat's movements.

The cat lands on all fours, its muscles tensed and ready to pounce again. But before it can, Abyssal let out, his voice low and menacingly cold.

"You're outmatched, Little Kittie."

Abyssal's words seem to hang in the air, heavy with meaning. The cat narrows its yellow eyes and for a moment, there was a standoff between the two in this deadly quiet terminal which didn't last long because, in a flash, the cat lunges again. But once again, Abyssal evades the attack with ease and makes a roll towards the axe which he quickly grabs and grins, a grin which looks more like a demon from hell. Meanwhile, as soon as the cat lands, Abyssal raises the axe and brings it down in a powerful swing, straight towards the cat's abdomen. Feeling his hair rising, the cat Instinctively twists its body and barely manages to dodge out of harm's way causing the axe to crash itself into the ground.

Feeling frustrated and scared, the cat let out a low growl, it has its own pride and doesn't want to back down even in the face of death. It crouches low, preparing to spring once more. But as it does, Abyssal suddenly lunges forward, axe raised high with his grinning bloody face which gives him an eery aura. The cat managed to leap to the side, but this time, Abyssal was expecting that. As soon as the cat moves, Abyssal twists and brings the axe around in a wide arc, catching the cat in the side. The cat lets out a howl filled with pain and the fear in its heart deepens, still that doesn't weaken its spirit to stop fighting. It swipes at Abyssal with its claws, but Abyssal scoff and blocks the attack with the flat of the axe.

Crrrrrrr

Hearing the screeching sound of the cat's claw was like a piece of music to Abyssal.

"This is so much fun! Show me what you got Little Kittie!!!"" Abyssal roar with excitement.

As the two opponents continue to trade axes and claws, it becomes clear that Abyssal has the upper hand as he keeps inflicting light sounds on the cat. Although the cat looks strong and agile, but Abyssal even though he doesn't have heaven-defying strength or speed seems to anticipate every move from the cat. With his axe, with each swing, the cat has to retreat further and further. Abyssal presses the attack relentlessly driving the cat back towards the wall. The cat was cornered, and it knew that if it didn't go all out it would definitely die to this sadistic-looking youth.

"Like I said, Y-O-U-R T-I-M-E I-S U-P."

Says Abyssal with his axe raised up for one final blow, the cat bares its teeth and lets out a defiant hiss filled with rage and unwillingness to go down.

Groooooowl ~

With its muscles tensed up, the cat's breathing quickened as it couldn't help its eyes dart back and forth seemingly trying to find an opening in order to escape but Abyssal was like a wall of steel, impenetrable and unrelenting blocking all escape routes.

Without any choice it charges with all ouch of strength towards Abyssal with a ferocious roar, hoping to catch the demon-looking human off guard and escape. But Abyssal is ready. Just as the cat is about to strike, Abyssal brings the axe down with all the strength Morningstar's weak body could muster. It felt like time was paused with the cat dashing at Morningstar revealing a ferocious look while Abyssal stood still with his axe crashing down and then...

Puchi~

Huuuuu huuuuu huuuuu ~

Taking in a deep breath Abyssal couldn't help but look at the cat which lay motionless on the ground with an axe stuck on its head while he who had a light claw's mark on his cheek was breathing heavily.

His face was pale from losing too much blood.

Without wasting time, he walked forward, towards the cat and picked three special-looking runes and moved towards the bus.
