This story starts with the view of the entire Indigo Stadium with the sound of loud cheers from the crowd. Then it shows two trainers standing far away from each other, one trainer has red spiked hair, wearing a blue uniform with orange outlines and the other trainer has brown French crop hair with a black t-shirt and blue shorts. The announcer begins talking. "And welcome back to this hyped up and exciting match against our champion Lance-" The camera gets a close-up of the red spiky-haired trainer, hinting his name is Lance. The announcer continues talking. "facing the winner of the Kanto League Tournament and who managed to beat the entire Elite Four to get at this point, Treyton!" The camera focused on the other trainer with brown hair, hinting his name was Treyton. "Both trainers are only down to one Pokémon and this matchup is so intense and exciting, you don't want to miss it!"
Lance pulls out a red and white ball device from his pocket. "Dragonite, I choose you!" Lance proceeds to throw the device in the air.
The red and white ball device opens, revealing a giant orange reptilian dragon with large grayish-green eyes that materializes. The creature roars out loud, signaling its battle cry.
The other trainer, who appears battling Lance, also pulls out a red and white device ball from his pocket. "Gyarados, you're up, win this one for me!" He throws the device in the air as well.
The red and white ball device opens, revealing a blue dragon-fish-like creature with yellow spots and a yellow underbelly, materializing onto the field with the Dragonite. The dragon-fish creature also roars, having a battle cry as well.
The announcer starts explaining again. "Lance sends out his iconic Dragonite and Treyton also sends out his iconic Gyarados too! Two of their greatest aces battling it out to the end! Remember folks, if Lance loses this battle here then Treyton will be crowned as the very new Indigo Champion! I don't think any trainer in the world has given a better challenge to Lance than Treyton has! Let's see what happens as the battle continues!"
The camera starts panning out further and further and further, it's revealed that this battle seems to be on a television screen and we are in somebody's room now.
The camera now pans to a blonde-haired girl, wearing a pink hat, and a gray top with a red skirt. This girl looks like she's watching the match and getting hyped up as it looks she calls a move and says the same thing Lance said on the television screen at the exact moment. "Dragonite, start this round out with Dragon Rage!"
A ball of fire forms in Dragonite's mouth and it releases a fiery inferno to the Gyarados on the television screen. The creature gets hit and it looks like it took some damage as Gyarados roars out in pain.
The blonde-haired girl says the same thing again, but Treyton this time, while she is watching the battle and getting more hyped up. "Counter it back with Hyper Beam, Gyarados!"
Gyarados shoots out a yellow-orange beam of energy from its mouth at Dragonite on the television screen. The Dragonite gets hits and now proceeds to take damage, roaring in pain.
The announcer starts speaking again while the blonde girl is still watching. "These two powerful trainers are already sending out their powerful moves at the beginning and the crowd is loving it!"
The doorknob to the room starts turning and then the door opens and it's a much older woman with purple hair, seeing the pink hat girl watching a battle on the television screen. "Jessie, sweetie, are you watching last year's Indigo Championship Pokémon battle again?"
The pink hat blonde-haired girl looks at the woman with a hyped smile. "I am, mom! That battle was so awesome, I can't stop watching it!"
A voice starts talking directly to us, the narrator. "This girl's name is Jessie. She lives in a town called Pallet Town and after turning sixteen, her mother, Miyamoto, will finally let her daughter go on her very own Pokémon journey tomorrow after not letting her for six years!"
Miyamoto chuckles. "Is it because of tomorrow, sweetie?"
Jessie nods her head in response very fast. "Of course! You're finally letting me go on my very own Pokémon journey! I just want to be like that guy right there!" She points at Treyton on the television screen, still battling Lance. "Standing across the battlefield against and battling the Indigo League Champion to possibly be crowned as a new champion. What a dream!"
"I know you can do it, sweetheart." Miyamoto approaches her daughter and places a hand on her shoulder. "Mommy will be cheering for you from the bottom of my heart!" She hugs her daughter who hugs back.
"Thank you so much, mom. I'll try my best to make you proud!" Jessie says.
"Oh sweetie, I'm already proud of you." Miyamoto lets go of the hug. She looks at the clock, noticing it's late. "Look at the time. You should change into your pajamas and get ready for bed. You don't want to be late on the day when you choose your very first starter in Professor Oak's lab, don't you?"
"Oh, you're right, mom. I'm going to do just that. Goodnight, Mom!" Jessie turns off the TV projecting the league battle as she opens her closet and pulls out her pajamas.
"Goodnight, sweetie!" Miyamoto leaves her daughter's room so that she can get changed.
While holding her pajamas, about to get changed. Jessie stares at the poster on her wall displaying three Pokémon. A flame-tailed orange lizard creature, a blue turtle with a shell creature, and finally a green amphibian with a giant green bulb on its back. "Tomorrow… my journey begins," Jessie says with determination in her eyes.
The title screen shows.
"Pokémon: The Beginning of Jessie's Journey!"
The scene time cuts to the day that Jessie's journey begins. Jessie gets done changing into her regular clothes from her pajamas, she grabs her pink purse before opening the door and heads downstairs. "Going to Professor Oak's lab, Mom!"
Miyamoto was in the kitchen, cooking breakfast for herself. "You sure you don't want any breakfast, sweetie?"
"Nope! Don't want to be late after all!" Jessie heads outside and leaves her house.
Miyamoto sighs in defeat, having a smile on her face. "She's growing too fast for me!"
It cuts to Jessie walking on the path, heading towards Professor Oak's lab, and singing a song. "I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was!" until she stumbles onto a fork in the road with two signs, looking and reading them. "'Route 1.' 'Professor Oak's lab.'" Jessie looks down at the left path that heads to Route 1, according to the sign. "Well obviously I should take the right path to head to Professor Oak's lab, but wow… I'm going to head there to start my journey!"
However, before Jessie could turn around to head to the right path, she spots a pink-haired male with a gray uniform, having the red letter R on, running to the Route 1 path while carrying some feline Pokémon. "Stop squirming, you little shit!"
"'Squirming'?" Jessie gets a closer look at the feline Pokémon that pink-haired person is running into the path of Route 1 and upon closer look, the Pokémon was squirming and trying to get out of the trainer's grasp. "That poor Pokémon looks like they're in trouble, I have to save them from that terrible person! But I don't want to be late…" Jessie looks at the sign saying Professor Oak's lab and pointing at the right path before she slaps herself. "What am I thinking?! A Pokémon is in trouble and I need to save it!" Jessie dashes at the left path heading to Route 1 and going in. "People say don't go in the tall grass without a Pokémon with you, but I don't care!"
The scene cuts to the pink-haired person with the gray uniform running in Route 1 while holding the feline Pokémon tight in their arms before stopping to take a breather. "I hope no one saw me, but I can't believe I discovered this special Meowth!"
The pink-haired person hears a voice nearby. "Hey, you! Let go of that Pokémon, right now!" It was Jessie, confronting the strange gray-unformed person.
"Dammit, I thought the coast was clear." The pink-haired person quietly said before looking at Jessie. "Look miss, this Meowth is mine, so how about you move along?"
Jessie crosses her arms, shaking her head. "I don't think so, pal. I saw that Meowth squirming, trying to get out of your grasp. You're trying to steal the poor thing! I'm going to say this again, let go of that Pokémon or you will be sorry!"
After a few seconds of the pink-haired thief staring at Jessie, he reaches into his pocket, pulls out a pistol, and aims it directly at her while holding onto the Meowth with his other hand. "You think I'm going to listen to a little pipsqueak like you? Don't think I'm scared to pull the trigger on you, because I will if you don't beat it!"
Jessie has her eyes widened in fear, staring at the gun that pointed directly at her. "C-crap, I don't have a Pokémon to defend myself!"
The pink-haired thief laughs. "You poor little thing. Looks like there's nothing you can't do to save this Meowth. Now get lost!"
The Meowth's claws start glowing white and then use the opportunity to scratch the pink-haired criminal. "AH, SHIT!" He drops Meowth and points at the air, pulling a trigger and sounding off a gunshot, causing some bird-species Pokémon to fly away as he holds his face in pain.
Jessie uses the opportunity to rush up and tackle the pink-haired thief, taking the gun away from him and she throws very far, before looking back at the Meowth. "DON'T JUST STAND THERE, RUN!"
The Meowth gets on their fours and immediately starts running away. Jessie gets off of the criminal and starts running away with the Meowth. "GET BACK HERE, YOU TWO!" The criminal shouts, as he gets up and starts chasing them.
The scene time cuts to Jessie and Meowth losing the pink-haired criminal from running as they stop and take deep breaths. "That was a close one. Are you okay, little guy?" Jessie asked, directing Meowth.
Meowth nods, giving her a thumbs-up in response.
"Good." Jessie smiles, before realizing something. "CRAP, I'M GOING TO BE LATE TO CHOOSE MY STARTER!" She starts running, turning her head to the Meowth while running. "You don't need to thank me!"
Meowth stares in the direction that Jessie is running before turning around and also running off.
The scene time cuts to Jessie arriving outside of Professor Oak's lab, seeing three other trainers also outside as she frowns. "Oh no, I arrived last!"
One of the trainers grabbed their attention upon hearing Jessie's voice. It was a girl with brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a light blue sleeveless shirt, along with a red miniskirt. She also has a yellow bag around her as well. "Well, well, well, if it isn't Mama's girl who arrived last! Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Jessie!"
Jessie groans in annoyance, rolling her eyes at the brown-haired girl. "Whatever, Leaf. I only arrived last before I had to deal with something earlier, but I bet you can't understand that with that short brain of yours."
"Make all of the insults you want, Jessie, but you know and I know that I will be the better trainer from Pallet Town than you!" Leaf fires back.
The two other Pallet Town trainers look at each other with awkward expressions before looking back at the two. "What's the deal with you two?" One of the Pallet Town trainers asked.
"Oh, me and her have been rivals since high school and we disliked each other ever since," Jessie responded.
Leaf scoffs. "You were just jealous because I was one of the most popular girls in high school and you were just a loser!"
Jessie growls, showing anger. "You were only popular in high school because you're the granddaughter of the famous Professor Oak! That's why!"
Leaf growls right back as the two rivals have an intense stare-down for a few seconds, but they immediately stop upon hearing a familiar voice.
"Alright Pallet Town trainers, may I have your attention, please?" Once the rivals looked, it was a slightly old man with a red top, wearing a lab coat and tan jeans.
Jessie and Leaf both shout in happiness upon seeing the old man. "Professor Oak!" "Gramps!"
Professor Oak looks at the four Pallet Town trainers with a smile on his face. "Today, you all will begin your very own Pokémon journeys. I expect you all to catch Pokémon, become stronger, and battle to your heart's desire. Those three pieces of advice are simple steps of becoming a Pokémon Master!"
Jessie starts talking to herself quietly. "Me being a Pokémon Master would be a dream come true!"
Professor Oak steps aside from the gate. "If you four may follow me into my lab, your starter Pokémon awaits!"
Jessie, Leaf, and the other two Pallet Town trainers happily enter the gate. The scene cuts to a glass container, containing three red and white ball devices, slowly opening for the four trainers.
Professor Oak explains the three red and white ball devices in the container. "Each Pokémon contains a starter Pokémon. The fire type, Charmander, the water type, Squirtle, and last but not least, the grass and poison type, Bulbasaur. Please choose carefully."
Jessie has her sights on the Poké Ball with a leaf symbol on it. "I already know what Pokémon I'm choosing!" She runs towards the leaf-symboled Poké Ball, about to grab it until Leaf pushes her aside to the ground.
Leaf grabs the Poké Ball for herself. "Hey mama's girl, I hope you realized that you arrived last and I arrived here first, which means you don't deserve the first selection at all!"
Jessie gets up, dusts herself off, and glares at Leaf. "Doesn't mean you don't have to push me to the ground!"
Leaf glares back, and another intense stare-down happens between the two rivals until Professor Oak gets in between the two. "Let's not fight here! Especially on this special day for both of you." Professor Oak turns to his granddaughter. "Leaf, are you choosing Bulbasaur as your starter?"
Leaf starts spinning the Poké Ball on her finger. "Well, it has a leaf symbol on it, and with my name being Leaf, Bulbasaur is a great pick."
"Very well." Professor Oak hands Leaf five Poké Balls and a red encyclopedia device. "Here's five Poké Balls and your Pokédex. Good on your journey, Leaf."
"Don't worry, gramps. I think I'm going to be just fine." Leaf looks at Jessie with a laugh. "See ya later, mama's girl!" She leaves the lab.
Jessie growls seeing Leaf leaving. "I'll show you, Leaf!" She turns around to the two starter Pokémon left, eyeing the Poké Ball with the water symbol on it. "I guess I'll pick Squirtle then." Jessie walks over to the Poké Ball to grab it.
Before Jessie can grab it, one of the other two Pallet Town trainers speaks up. "Hey miss… Leaf was kinda right earlier, you did show up last after all. So you will let me have Squirtle, pretty please?"
Jessie stops what she is doing and groans, she steps back, letting the other Pallet Town trainer have Squirtle. "Go ahead."
The Pallet Town trainer rushes up to the Poké Ball in excitement, grabbing it. "M-my very own Pokémon in my hands! Dreams do come true!"
Professor Oak hands the Pallet Town trainer five Poké Balls and a Pokédex like he did with Leaf. "Here are your five Poké Balls and your Pokédex. Good luck on your journey, young man!"
"Thank you so much, Professor!" The Pallet Town trainer accepts the Poké Balls and Pokédex, then leaves the lab.
Jessie looks at the last Poké Ball on the container with a fire symbol on it, then she looks at the other Pallet Town trainer who looks back. They both glare at each other and start sprinting towards the container. "That Charmander is mine!" Jessie shouted.
"If I can remember correctly, you arrived last, so I'm taking it!" The Pallet Town trainer purposefully trips Jessie so that she falls to the ground and they snatch the last Poké Ball. "Got it!" They then look at Jessie on the floor. "Oh, sorry, that was an accident." The Pallet Town trainer chuckles silently.
Jessie gets up, dusting herself off once more while growling. "Whatever…"
Professor Oak hands the Pallet Town trainer the usual Pokédex and five Poké Balls. "Here you go, young man. Your five Poké Balls and Pokédex!"
"I'm going to become the greatest Pokémon trainer of them all!" The Pallet Town trainer swipes the Poké Balls and Pokédex, leaving the lab immediately.
Jessie looks at the now empty container, no other Poké Balls in sight as she sighs in sadness. "I can't believe it's empty."
Professor Oak frowns upon seeing Jessie sad. "Sorry, Jessie, but you did arrive last after all. I did have a fourth starter, but I guess it didn't like being contained. The Pokémon broke out and ran away before I could display it in the container."
"I would've arrived earlier if I didn't get sidetracked. Maybe that Pokémon is still out there Professor and I could persuade it to come with me?" Jessie suggested.
The professor thinks for a little bit before answering. "Okay, if you say so. Here's its Poké Ball if you do come across it." He hands Jessie the fourth starter's Poké Ball, displaying a symbol with three scratch marks on it. "However, it's dangerous to go out there without a Pokémon with you on hand. Are you sure you just don't want to wait until the fresh new starters come in?"
Jessie nods. "I came to this lab to start my journey today and I'm going to do just that!"
"If you say so, Jessie. Here are your five Poké Balls and Pokédex for your journey. Good luck." Professor Oak hands Jessie the usual five Poké Balls and Pokédex.
Jessie accepts them and bows to show gratitude. "Thank you, Professor." She leaves the lab.
Once Jessie leaves, her mother is out there standing at the entrance and waiting for her daughter. "So… I guess you're leaving, honey?"
"Yeah, I guess I am, mom," Jessie responded. "Don't worry Mom, when I get the opportunity, I'll try to call and update you."
Miyamoto just hugs her daughter, shedding tears in her eyes. "I'm going to miss you so much around the house. You be careful, sweetie!"
"Mom!" Jessie yelled from her mother's crying. "Stop crying! You know one day I'm going to be a big girl now and I can take care of myself now."
Miyamoto looks at her daughter with a smile, wiping her tears away with a smile as she nods. "Right, you can now. May I see the Pokémon you selected?"
Jessie's eyes widened before rubbing her head embarrassingly with a chuckle. "Um about that, they're a little bit shy of coming out of their Poké Ball, so maybe some other time, Mom."
"Aww, well that's okay!" Miyamoto smiles and hands Jessie her purse. "Don't forget your purse, honey. I packed you some fresh food and water. Good luck on your journey!" She hugs her daughter.
Jessie hugs her mother back with a smile. "Thanks, Mom!"
The scene cuts to Jessie arriving and walking into Route 1 with a frown on her face as she sighs and starts talking to herself. "I had to lie to my mom. She would've never let me leave home without a Pokémon in my possession and I wanted to start my journey right now."
As Jessie continues walking, she spots a wild purple rat Pokémon quickly dashing through the trail and into the tall grass, disappearing from view. "What Pokémon did I just see?!" Jessie pulls out her Pokédex and tries to identify it.
However, the Pokédex couldn't identify the Pokémon that Jessie just saw sprinted by. "Pokémon must be on sight for this Pokédex to identify."
Jessie groans. "Just great. How am I supposed to lure a Pokémon out in the open to identify it?" She starts thinking until she gets an idea. "Didn't mom say that she packed some food in my purse for me?"
It cuts to Jessie spreading some of the crumbs of food from her purse that she broke into pieces. As soon as her trap was done, Jessie quickly walked into the tall grass to hide and watch. "Some Pokémon's gotta fall for it."
A few seconds pass and the same purple rat Pokémon from before comes out of hiding and starts eating the crumbs that Jessie left on the trail. Jessie pulls out her Pokédex to identify it.
"Rattata, the Mouse Pokémon. A normal type. Bites anything when it attacks. Small and very quick, it is a common sight in many places."
"Okay, Rattata, you're going to be my first ever Pokémon!" Jessie pulls out one of the empty Poké Balls that Professor Oak gave to her. She stands up from hiding. "Rattata, you're mine!" Jessie quickly throws the Poké Ball at Rattata."
"Rattata?!" Rattata tries to run back into the tall grass, but the Poké Ball manages to come in contact with the mouse Pokémon. Rattata goes inside the Poké Ball.
Jessie stands up in excitement, thinking she caught the Rattata. "Yes! I caught my very first Pokémon!" However, the celebration immediately ends once Jessie sees the Poké Ball wiggling on the ground. "What's this? It's shaking?"
The Poké Ball wiggles three times, but Rattata breaks out and immediately runs back into the tall grass, out of view once more.
Jessie scratches her head. "Wait, so I didn't catch that Rattata?"
The Pokédex starts giving Jessie some information about catching Pokémon. "To know that you have successfully caught a Pokémon, the Poké Ball makes a click sound and the Pokémon contained inside the Poké Ball stays inside and does not break out. It is possible to capture a Pokémon without weakening it, however, you have a better chance by battling and weakening the wild Pokémon with your own Pokémon."
Jessie sighs. "It would be nice if I had a Pokémon with me to battle wild Pokémon with." She puts her Pokédex away and continues walking on the trail of Route 1.
It cuts to Jessie walking farther into Route 1, looking for a wild Pokémon to catch, but no luck. "Either I'm out of luck or that Rattata earlier alerted every wild Pokémon in the area about me and now all of the wild Pokémon are hiding somewhere." Jessie then hears footsteps nearby which immediately sparks her attention. She hides behind a tree nearby.
The footsteps get louder and louder as Jessie waits for the right moment and jumps out to surprise whatever was making those footsteps with an empty Poké Ball in her hand. "Now I'm going to catch you!"
"Catch me?" It was a child brunette trainer with a yellow plain shirt, blue shorts, and shoes with a blue cap, wearing it backward. "I'm no Pokémon! And just because you assumed I was one, you have to battle me! Spearow, I choose you!" The young child trainer sends out their Pokémon to battle.
A very small bird-like Pokémon with pink-reddish wings materializes. "Spearow!"
"What Pokémon is that?" Jessie pulls out her Pokédex and aims it directly at the Spearow.
"Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. A normal and flying type. Eats bugs in grassy areas. It has to flap its short wings at high speed to stay airborne."
"Are we going to battle or what, lady?!" The young trainer says, getting easily impatient.
"Hold on kid, I don't even know your name and you immediately jump to conclusions!" Jessie says, waving her hands.
"My name is Luke!" Luke introduces himself. "I search long and far for trainers I can battle with to train my Spearow up! So you better get your Pokémon ready, lady!"
"About that… you see here, Luke, I don't really have-" Before Jessie could finish her sentence, a cat-like Pokémon jumped up from the bushes and landed right in front of Jessie, staring directly at Spearow and ready to battle. It was a Meowth. "Huh?!" Jessie says in confusion.
Luke raises an eyebrow. "What were you going to say earlier?"
"Umm… I was going to say-" Jessie realizes that this Meowth wants to battle for her. "I don't really have- to give you this brutal beating if you battle against me, but whatever you say, Luke!" She smirks before kneeling to Meowth's height and whispering to them. "Are you sure you want to battle for me?"
The Meowth gives Jessie a thumbs up before turning their attention back to Luke and his Spearow.
Luke grits his teeth and commands the first move of this battle. "Alright Spearow, start this battle with a Peck Attack!"
"Spearow!" Spearow dashes towards the Meowth and starts pecking its face as the Meowth tries to shoo the tiny bird Pokémon away.
"This is my first Pokémon battle as an official trainer, I can't disappoint!" Jessie thought to herself before commanding her move. "Use Scratch!"
The Meowth's claws glow white and then scratch the Spearow across the face while the bird-like Pokémon is busy pecking the Meowth. "Spearow!" Spearow cries out in pain.
"Show that Meowth how tough you are, Spearow. Use Peck again!" Luka commanded.
"Show Spearow that it should be afraid of you. Use Growl!" Jessie commanded.
Spearow dashes toward the Meowth, about to peck its face again, but the Meowth starts growling directly at the bird-like Pokémon, stopping dead in its tracks, and then the Meowth hisses, causing Spearow to step back in fear.
"What are you doing, Spearow?!" Luke questioned out of disbelief.
"Now use Scratch, Meowth!" Jessie commanded.
Meowth dashes toward Spearow with its claws glowing white and scratches the bird-like Pokémon across the face, causing the Spearow to faint from the battle.
"Oh no, Spearow! Return!" Luke recalls Spearow back in its Poké Ball. "You're a tough trainer, I shouldn't have battled you, to begin with!" He sprints off into the distance, out of view.
"I think that kid won't know that was my first ever battle as an official Pokémon trainer." Jessie looks at the Meowth and smiles. "Thank you so much for battling for me, Meowth!"
Meowth looks at Jessie and reveals something to her as the Pokémon replies right back to her in the same human language before chuckling. "Don't mention it, just repaying a favor."
"WHAT?!" Jessie let out a yell from shock at what she just witnessed, a Pokémon directly talking to her. "I-I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU?!"
Meowth shushes Jessie. "Can you keep it down before anyone nearby hears you? Or I'm going to regret helping ya."
"B-but it's just… I can understand you and everything. Do I have the powers to understand the cries of Pokémon now after beating that trainer?" Jessie assumed.
Meowth groans and facepalms. "No! That would be dumb and stupid! Look, I can speak the human language. I'm a Pokémon that can talk and the only one to do it so far! That's why that dumb criminal was trying to kidnap me earlier."
"'Dumb criminal'? Wait, are you the same Meowth from earlier that I just saved from you being stolen by that person with the red R uniform?" Jessie asked.
Meowth nods and starts telling the story. "Bingo! You see, I broke out from my Poké Ball and just escaped from that old geezer's lab. I didn't want to be someone's Pokémon, but anyway, after I ran outside, I shouted that I was free, repeatedly. However, that would be a huge mistake as I accidentally revealed my talking abilities to that criminal in disguise without knowing. He approached me and tried to persuade me to come with him, but as soon I refused, he grabbed me and made a run for it."
"So that's where I came in and saved you, right?" Jessie asked.
Meowth nods. "Yep! So consider this a returned favor and now we're even!" He turns around and starts heading back into the tall grass.
"Wait, Meowth, I want to ask you something!" Jessie says.
Meowth stops and turns around to Jessie. "What is it now?"
"You said that you came from the 'old geezer's lab' right? Do you mean Professor Oak?" Jessie asked.
"That's what his name was?" Meowth questioned. "Well, I guess so, yeah!"
"So you were the fourth starter that Oak was talking about! Look, I was going to arrive early, but I ended up arriving late because I was busy trying to save you. Look, I can protect you from criminals trying to steal you because of your gift of speech. Will you please be my starter Pokémon and join me? " Jessie asked.
Meowth raises an eyebrow at Jessie. "You want me to join you despite the fact I said that I didn't want to be anyone's Pokémon a few seconds ago?"
"Look…" Jessie pulls out the Poké Ball with scratch mark symbols on the top. "Professor Oak gave me this Poké Ball just in case I ran into the fourth starter that got away and that's you. This must be your Poké Ball, so technically, you are my Pokémon whether you like it or not. I know you don't like being someone's Pokémon, but you can trust me."
Meowth thinks for a little bit before finally answering. "Fine, I'll be your Pokémon, but there are a few conditions. First condition, if you turn out to be a trash trainer after all, I will leave you. The second and final condition, I will not be in those filthy Poké Balls, I despise them and I would rather be out here in the nice fresh air anyway. Are we clear?"
Jessie nods. "Yep, loud and clear!" She picks up Meowth and hugs the talking Pokémon tightly. "Congrats on being the first member of Jessie's team!"
"TOO TIGHT! TOO TIGHT!" Meowth scratches Jessie across the face, causing her to let go of him.
Jessie shrieks in pain and immediately lets go of Meowth. "Sorry…"
It cuts to Jessie, now with her new and starter Pokémon, Meowth, walking onto the path of Route 1 and looking for any Pokémon. "Found any wild Pokémon, Meowth?"
Meowth shakes his head no. "Not that I know of."
However, Jessie and Meowth see little sparks from the tall grass, immediately gaining their attention as they both look at each other and then start sneaking into the tall grass where the sparks are coming from. Upon sneaking, the two see a little yellow Pokémon with black stripes, and around its lower waist and arms with a black lightning symbol on its belly with a spark plug as its head.
"Ele!" The spark plug wild Pokémon cries out, shooting more sparks into the sky.
"What the hell is that?" Meowth questioned. "I haven't seen a Pokémon look like that before."
"Maybe the Pokédex knows?" Jessie pulls out her Pokédex from her purse and points it directly at the spark plug Pokémon.
However, the Pokédex cannot identify it. "This Pokémon cannot be registered with the Kanto Pokédex."
"The Pokédex can't register it?" Jessie questioned in confusion.
"So that's what that red device is called? Anyways, we got an unknown Pokémon on our hands. I say you catch it… Jessie, correct?"
Jessie nods. "Yes, that's my name and you're right, then I can show it to Oak and he can tell me what it is. Okay, are you ready to weaken it, Meowth, with a quick battle?"
Meowth grins, sharpening his claws. "I'm always ready for a battle!"
"Okay, on three I want you to use Scratch." Jessie starts slowly counting to three. "One… two… three, NOW!"
Meowth dashes toward the spark plug Pokémon, completely scratching it before the Pokémon could even react.
"ELE!" The unknown spark plug Pokémon cries in pain.
Jessie stands up, immediately pulling out an empty Poké Ball from her purse. "Poké Ball, go!" She throws it directly at the spark plug Pokémon.
However, the spark plug Pokémon dashes to the right, dodging getting hit by the Poké Ball, and starts running away by heading into the forest.
"IT'S GETTING AWAY, COME ON, FOLLOW IT!" Meowth shouted, pointing directly where the spark plug Pokémon ran off.
Jessie and Meowth sprint off into the forest to chase that wild unknown Pokémon. It cuts to the forest, there's a girl with blonde hair, and purple eyes, wearing red clothing and a white skirt. She's walking while moving her bicycle and also has a fishing pole in her hand as well.
"Hmm… if I was the perfect spot to fish, where would I be?" The blonde-haired girl says to herself and continues walking until she stumbles upon a pond and smiles in delight. "Perfect!" She arrives at the pond and gets ready to fish by bringing her fishing rod out. "Water Pokémon, here I come!" Before the blonde-haired girl can fish, she hears running footsteps, grabbing her attention. "What's that?"
It was the spark plug from earlier, arriving at the scene and staring directly at the blonde-haired girl. "Ele…"
"Oh, it's just a wild Pokémon… but it also looks like an electric type Pokémon! You could be a big help to me by making catching water-type Pokémon easier!" The blonde-haired girl pulls out an empty Poké Ball. "Now just stay still and let me catch you, little guy!"
The spark plug Pokémon immediately let out a shriek in fear. "ELE!" It immediately turns around and flees the scene.
The blonde-haired girl frowns. "Aww… I blew it! Maybe I shouldn't have announced that I was gonna catch it now that I think about it." This time she hears a feminine voice nearby and more running footsteps.
"I think I heard the shriek coming from here, Meowth!" Jessie sprints into the scene with the blonde-haired girl with Meowth. "Miss, have you seen a little yellow Pokémon with black stripes running through here?" She asked.
"Yeah, I just saw it running through there." The blonde-haired girl points in the direction where that Pokémon sprinted.
"Awesome! Thank you, miss!" Jessie was about to sprint off when she noticed the blonde-haired girl's bicycle and immediately hopped onto it. "Hop in the basket, Meowth!"
"On it!" Meowth jumps and lands into the bike's front basket.
"HEY, THAT'S MY BIKE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" The blonde-haired girl yelled out.
"Sorry miss, but I'm borrowing this bike for a little bit!" Jessie starts pedaling in the direction where the blonde-haired girl pointed earlier.
The blonde-haired girl shouts out some more to Jessie in anger. "GIVE ME BACK MY BIKE, YOU LITTLE THIEF!"
Jessie looks back at the blonde-haired girl while pedaling out of the area. "I'll give it back, I promise!"
The blonde-haired girl looks on in disbelief. "I can't believe her!"
It cuts to Jessie pedaling towards the spark plug Pokémon while Meowth is in the basket. Jessie pulls out a Poké Ball from her purse and throws it at the Pokémon while pedaling. "Poké Ball, go!"
But the spark plug Pokémon immediately dodges from getting hit by moving to the right. "Ele!"
Jessie grits her teeth in frustration. "Dammit!"
"Face it, Jess, you're not catching that Pokémon until you weaken it," Meowth says.
"You're right, Meowth. Use Scratch!" Jessie commanded.
"Got it!" Meowth jumps out of the basket, dashing to the spark plug Pokémon on its fours while its claws start glowing white.
The spark plug Pokémon quickly turns around and fires a direct bolt of electricity right at Meowth.
"AH!" Meowth shrieked, dashing to the right to dodge the electricity.
But the bolt of electricity continues flowing and starts heading towards Jessie and the bicycle. "CRAP!" Jessie jumps off the bicycle as the bicycle gets completely fried and destroyed by the bolt of electricity from the spark plug Pokémon. Jessie looks at the burnt bike and rubs her head embarrassingly. "She isn't going to like this…"
"Focus more on that Pokémon than the burnt bike!" Meowth yelled out.
"Right! Meowth, grab that Pokémon before it can escape!" Jessie commanded.
Meowth dashes right behind the spark plug Pokémon and grabs the Pokémon from behind. "Got 'em! Now throw a Poké Ball before this guy uses an electrical move!"
"Ele!" The spark plug Pokémon's two plug antennas on the top of its head start flowing with electricity, about to use an electric move.
Jessie quickly pulls out an empty Poké Ball. "POKÉ BALL, GO!" And throws it directly at spark plug Pokémon.
The spark plug Pokémon sees the Poké Ball coming at them and starts screeching and hissing loudly. "ELE! ELE! ELE!" The Pokémon struggles to get out of Meowth's grasp, but can't as it comes in contact with the Poké Ball and goes in.
Meowth sighs in relief. "That was a close one!"
"We're not done yet, look!" Jessie points at the Poké Ball wiggling.
The Poké Ball wiggles three times on the ground before clicking, officially signaling a successful catch.
"I did it… I caught my first ever Pokémon." Jessie walks up to the Poké Ball and picks it up, looking directly at the item containing the spark plug inside. "I'm so… happy! Oh my gosh!" She starts doing a little celebration for herself.
Meowth looks on, seeing Jessie celebrate as he closes his eyes with a smile, chuckling. "I guess this kid has the potential."
Jessie shows the Poké Ball to Meowth's face. "Shall we bring the little guy out?"
"Sure, why not?" Meowth agrees.
"Alright, come on out, my first ever caught Pokémon!" Jessie holds up the Poké Ball in the air.
The Poké Ball opens and the spark plug materializes onto the ground, crying in confusion. "Ele?"
Jessie kneels to the little spark plug with a smile. "Welcome to the team, little guy. I promise that you have nothing to worry about. I'm going to raise you like a parent. I would like to know who you are by knowing your name, but I can't understand Pokémon."
"Leave that to me!" Meowth says with a confident smirk. "I'll get this guy's name for ya."
"Can you understand Pokémon?" Jessie questioned.
"Well duh! Of course, I can! I am a Pokémon after all with the gift of speech, so I can come in handy when translating what a Pokémon said." Meowth looks at the little spark plug and clears his throat. "Hello, little guy. My name is Meowth, would you mind telling me what's your name?"
The little spark plug starts communicating back to Meowth. "Ele! Ele! Ele!"
Meowth nods and understands the situation of what the little spark plug Pokémon said. "I see, that could be a problem."
"What did it say Meowth, can you translate it to me?" Jessie asked
"Okay." Meowth starts translating to Jessie what the spark plug Pokémon said. "So the little guy's name is 'Elekid' and the reason why they were running away from us was because they thought we were Pokémon thieves. Apparently, Elekid just escaped from a couple of thieves not so long ago."
"Oh…" Jessie looks at Elekid and smiles. "You can trust me, I'm no Pokémon thief and I promise to treat you with the utmost respect!"
A different bird-like Pokémon flies by and lands on the tall grass near Jessie and her Pokémon, gaining their attention. The bird Pokémon nearby was primarily brown with a cream-colored face, underside, and flight feathers. It starts pecking the ground and finding seeds for food.
"Wow, what Pokémon is that?" Jessie pulls out her Pokédex and aims it at the bird Pokémon near her in the tall grass.
"Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. A normal and flying type. A common sight in forests and woods. It flaps its wings at ground level to kick up blinding sand."
Jessie puts her Pokédex away and turns to face Elekid. "Are you ready to show just how strong you are, Elekid, by helping me catch this Pidgey?"
Elekid jumps up and down, crying in excitement. "Ele!"
"Alright, Elekid, I choose you!" Jessie points directly at the Pidgey.
Elekid jumps up in front of Jessie, facing the Pidgey with determination to battle it. "Elekid!"
The wild Pidgey looks directly at Elekid and immediately enters battle mode by flapping its wings and sending sand directly to Elekid. "Pidgey! Pidgey!"
Elekid gets hit in the face by sand and screams in pain. "Ele!"
"That must be Pidgey's Sand Attack. Elekid, use Quick Attack!" Jessie commanded.
"Ele!" Elekid starts dashing towards the wild Pidgey with quickness, disappearing and reappearing, but the wild Pidgey manages to barely dodge by flying out of the way.
"Pidgey!" Pidgey flies right behind Elekid in surprise, flapping its wings at high speeds, and sends the spark plug Pokémon in the air and hits a nearby tree.
"Elekid…" Elekid looks dizzy and lost from hitting the tree.
Pidgey starts flying directly towards Elekid with quickness, disappearing and reappearing, using its own Quick Attack.
Jessie starts sweating in fear and commands her next move with a shout. "ELEKID, USE THUNDER PUNCH!"
One of Elekid's plug fists started sparking with electricity and when the wild Pidgey was flying closer and closer to the spark plug Pokémon, Elekid let out a battle cry. "ELE!" Elekid hits Pidgey with its electricity-charged-up fist at the right exact moment.
"PIDGEY!" Pidgey cries out in intense pain from getting hit by a super-effective move and falls onto the ground, surrounded by static electricity.
Jessie pulls out her fifth and last empty Poké Ball that Professor Oak gave her as she looks at it. "This is the last Poké Ball that Oak gave me. This has to be a success." Jessie gets lined up and is about to throw. "Poké Ball… go!" She does so directly at the wild Pidgey.
The Poké Ball comes in contact with the wild Pidgey and the tiny bird Pokémon goes in. The Poké Ball wiggles once, then twice, then thrice, before clicking, signaling a successful catch.
Jessie pumps up her fist in the air in excitement and does another celebration. "I caught a Pidgey! My second ever Pokémon I caught!"
Meowth claps for Jessie on her second catch. "Congrats, because I thought that wild Pidgey was going to beat you, causing me to step in instead." He smirks.
Jessie rolls her eyes at Meowth. "Whatever helps you sleep at night." She turns her attention to Elekid. "You did great, Elekid. That Thunder Punch of yours packs up a good punch." Jessie chuckles.
Elekid flexes its muscles with a confident smirk. "Ele!"
It cuts to Jessie walking on the trail with Meowth and Elekid both on their shoulders as the three spots a bunch of buildings nearby, a city.
"Is that a city?" Jessie pointed out.
"I believe that's Viridian City," Meowth said. "The closest city to Pallet Town."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Jessie says in excitement.
Meowth and Elekid both shouted in excitement together. "Hell yeah!" "Ele!"
Jessie continues walking on the trail, but a pink, bipedal Pokémon floats behind her, as Jessie hears its cry. "Mew!"
Jessie immediately looks behind her, scratching her head. "Did you guys just hear the cry of a Pokémon or something?"
Meowth and Elekid both looked at each other before looking back at Jessie, answering her question. "No?" "Ele?"
It looks like Jessie only heard the sound of that Pokémon cry, but she just shrugs it off. "I'm guessing I'm just hearing things then."
As Jessie continues walking on the trail, getting near the entrance of Viridian City. The narrator starts wrapping up the episode. "This is just the very beginning of the exciting Pokémon journey that Jessie will have. She will meet so many friends and enemies alike. What else is in store for Jessie? Find out very soon as the journey continues!"
