Chereads / Jessie’s Pokémon Journey (AU) / Chapter 4 - The Bug Catchers of the Wry

Chapter 4 - The Bug Catchers of the Wry

The episode starts where it left off from the previous episode, where Meowth and a wild Pikachu are having a stare-off, about to battle as the narrator begins recapping. "Jessie encountered a wild Pikachu in the Viridian Forest and decided to use Meowth to try to weaken it. Will he succeed and Jessie gets a new Pokémon?"

Jessie starts with the first move. "Meowth, use scratch!"

"Taste my claws!" Meowth tries to swipe at Pikachu, but the mouse Pokémon quickly runs out of the way. "What?" Then the talking Pokémon gets attacked from behind quickly by Pikachu. "OW!"

"What was that?!" Jessie says in confusion.

"That was Pikachu's Quick Attack! Careful Jessie, Pikachu is a fast Pokémon!" Domino warned.

"Well, I hope they like electricity! Meowth, use Thunderbolt!" Jessie commanded.

Domino tries to warn Jessie again. "No wait-"

Electricity starts to flow in Meowth's body. "Take this!" He releases an electricity charge at Pikachu.

Pikachu takes the Thunderbolt, barely affecting it as the mouse Pokémon stares in confusion. "Pika?"

Jessie stares off in confusion again. "That move barely hurt Pikachu. What happened?"

Domino facepalms. "Jessie, Pikachu is an electric type, in most scenarios of a battle, using the same type of move of a Pokémon is gonna barely affect it!"

"Oh… oops." Jessie rubs The back of her head from embarrassment.

Meowth looks down and groans. "I wish I had a smarter trainer right now." When he looks up, Meowth sees a bunch of Pikachu surrounding him. "What?!"

"Pika!" All the Pikachu shouted.

Jessie stares at all the Pikachu in amazement. "Wow, there's a bunch of Pikachu now!"

Domino informs Jessie once more. "No, Jessie! It's Pikachu's Double Team! It creates many illusions to confuse its opponents. You have to find the right one!"

Jessie starts scratching her head. "Well uhh… Meowth use bite and try to pick the right one."

Meowth rolls his eyes. "Thanks for the brilliant strategy." He looks at all the illusions of Pikachu around him before laying eyes on one of them. "You!" Meowth leaps and bites the Pikachu with his teeth.

Luckily for Meowth, it was the real Pikachu as all the illusions disappeared. "PIKACHU!" Pikachu screams out in pain.

Now thinking it's the right moment, Jessie quickly pulls out an empty Poké Ball. "Poké Ball, go!" She throws it at Pikachu.

"Pika!" Pikachu cries out before getting hit by the Poké Ball. The Poké Ball lands on the ground and it begins wiggling.

The title screen shows.

"The Bug Catchers of the Wry"

The Poké Ball continues wiggling with Jessie, Domino, and Meowth all looking at it to wait for the signal confirmation. After three wiggles, the Poké Ball clicks, signaling a successful catch.

Jessie pumps up her fist in excitement. "Yes, I did it!" She goes over to pick up the Poké Ball containing Pikachu. "I caught a Pikachu!"

Domino crosses her arms. "I don't know why you're so excited. You only caught Pikachu because of dumb luck, if that was an illusion Meowth struck then it would've been most likely curtains for him."

Meowth looks at Domino with an offended look. "Hey!"

Domino shrugs. "I'm just saying."

Jessie has an annoyed look. "Hmph, you're just jealous that I caught Pikachu and you didn't."

Domino rolled her eyes in response. "Yeah, I'm super jealous, Jessie." She said, sarcastically.

The trio starts hearing someone call out for Pikachu. "Pikachu! Oh, Pikachu! Where are you?!" As they look where the voice is coming from.

A Pokémon trainer with blue shorts, a white shirt, and a straw hat enters the scene, who's also holding onto a catching net, enters the scene. "Oh excuse me you two but have any of you seen a Pikachu running around?"

"Sorry, but I already caught it." Jessie shows the Poké Ball to the trainer.

The trainer gasps. "Are you serious?! I was just in a battle with that Pikachu and it got away from me. Pikachu is so rare to find in the Viridian Forest that I was so determined to catch at least one of them."

Jessie shrugs. "Sorry buddy, you can look for another one. Let's go, guys."

As Jessie, Meowth, and Domino are about to leave the area, the trainer stops them. "Wait!"

The trio stops and looks at the trainer. "What is it?" Jessie asked.

The trainer declares a challenge to Jessie. "I challenge you to a one-on-one Pokémon battle for Pikachu! Whoever wins gets to have the Pikachu you just caught!"

Jessie thinks about it. "A Pokémon battle will help with my training." She then nods, accepting it. "I accept your challenge!"

"Are you serious, Jessie?! What if you lose?!" Domino questioned.

"Then I'll just find another Pikachu, easy," Jessie answered.

The scene cuts to Jessie and the trainer standing far from each other to create a made-up battlefield.

"I never got your name by the way," Jessie stated.

The trainer reveals his name. "My name's Doug and I'm a bug catcher. What is your name?"

Domino's eyes widened at what she just heard. "Wait, did he say a b-bug catcher?!"

Meowth chuckles. "This is going to be fun."

Jesse also introduces herself. "Nice to meet you, Doug. I'm Jessie and I'm gonna be a future Pokémon Master!"

Doug pulls out a Poké Ball. "If that's true then I can't wait to beat a future Pokémon Master! Beedrill, I choose you!" He throws the Poké Ball in the air.

A yellow with a black-stripped abdomen wasp materializes and starts buzzing upon materializing.

"AH!" Domino screams to hide behind Jessie

Doug raises an eyebrow. "What's her deal?"

"Oh, it's not important." Jessie pulls out her Pokédex and aims it at the Beedrill. "Now what are you?"

"Beedrill, the Poison Bee Pokémon. The evolved form of Kakuna. A bug and poison type. Flies at high speed and attacks using its large venomous stingers on its forelegs and tail."

"Looks more like a poisonous wasp to me." Jessie puts her Pokédex away and pulls out a Poké Ball. "Pikachu, I choose-"

Doug immediately interrupts Jessie from trying to send out her Pikachu. "Hold on! Pikachu is on the line here, you can't use it in this battle."

"Huh, okay then…" Jessie sticks Pikachu's Poké Ball back in her purse and pulls out a different one. "Then I'll use my other electric type. Elekid, I choose you!" Jessie sends out Elekid to battle.

Elekid materializes. "Ele!"

Doug commands the first move of the battle. "Beedrill, use Focus Energy!"

A red aura surrounds the buzzing Beedrill, getting ready to strike Elekid in its weak spot.

Jessie raises an eyebrow. "That's it? Okay Elekid, use Thunder Punch!"

"Ele!" Elekid rubs his fist together to conduct electricity around its fist and starts running towards Beedrill.

"Beedrill, simply fly up!" Doug commanded.

Beedrill flies up in the air, out of reach from Elekid's attack.

Elekid tries to jump in the air to reach Beedrill, but can't, showing frustration. "Ele! Ele! Ele!"

"Hey! No fair! Beedrill can fly but Elekid can't!" Jessie complained.

Doug chuckles. "Sorry, but it's completely fair! Maybe you should've picked a Pokémon that can also fly!"

Jessie realizes she has a Pidgeotto. "Pidgeotto! I gotta swap out Elekid with Pidgeotto!" She pulls out Elekid's Poké Ball, about to recall it. "Elekid, re-"

Doug interrupts Jessie again. "Hey! This is a one-on-one battle and you already sent out your yellow electric thing to battle! You can't recall it or it's automatically a forfeit!"

"What are you, my mom because you keep telling me what to do?" Jessie sarcastically says.

"But Jessie, he's right after all," Meowth whispered in her ear.

Jessie grits her teeth and puts the Poké Ball away back in her purse. "Just great…"

Domino continues shaking in fear behind Jessie at the sight of Beedrill. "Jessie, it would be great to use your brain right now and beat that thing!"

Doug starts talking silently to himself with an annoyed expression. "Maybe that lady just doesn't like Beedrill, that's it." He then commands his move out loud. "Beedrill, use Twineedle!"

Beedrill buzzes and flies down, stabbing Elekid in its weak spot with its large stingers on its arms as the red aura disappears.

"ELE!" Elekid screams out in pain from getting stabbed before going down.

"Elekid, you have to get up!" Jessie ordered.

Elekid slowly gets up, still able to battle as it takes deep breaths. "Ele… Ele… Ele…"

"Now use Quick Attack!" Jessie commanded.

"Ele!" Elekid disappears and reappears with its fast speed and tries to attack Beedrill.

"I don't think so! Beedrill, fly up to the air once more!" Doug countered.

Beedrill quickly flies up in the air once more to dodge Elekid's Quick Attack and buzzes.

"How am I supposed to attack Beedrill when it's in the sky?!" Jessie questioned while Domino behind her was shaking a lot.

Meowth noticed Domino's scared shaking. "She's about to explode at any minute." He says to himself.

Doug smirks. "Maybe you should've forfeited Earlier! Alright, Beedrill fly down and-"

Before Doug can finish, Domino interrupts him by yelling to reply to what Jessie said earlier. "I don't what you do, just find a way to beat that disgusting bug!"

"WHAT?!" Doug screamed out in shock.

Jessie realized that Beedrill was low in the air enough for Elekid to reach it and took the opportunity from the distraction to command a move. "Elekid, Thunder Punch!"

"Ele!" Elekid dashes to Beedrill while rubbing its fist together to create an electric shock on its fist and punches the poisonous bee Pokémon as Beedrill buzzes in pain from getting electrocuted and falls to the ground, fainting from the battle.

Doug falls onto his knees in defeat. "Beedrill, no!" He sighs and then recalls Beedrill back in its Poké Ball.

Jessie clutches her fist in excitement from winning the battle. "That means I win and I keep Pikachu! Way to go, Elekid!" She recalls Elekid back in its Poké Ball.

Doug stands back up and glares at Jessie. "You only won because your friend behind you distracted me by calling my Beedrill disgusting!"

Domino stops hiding behind Jessie to glare at Doug. "For your information, I just don't hate Beedrill, I hate all bug Pokémon! They're nothing but disgusting little creatures that I despise so much!"

Doug glares at Domino for a few seconds before turning around and leaving the area.

Jessie, Meowth, and Domino watch him leave as Jessie turns to Domino. "Maybe you shouldn't have said that since he is a bug catcher after all."

"Whatever, he's gone anyways so it's too late for an apology. Let's just find the exit of this stupid forest. I'm tired of being here!" Domino starts walking as Jessie and Meowth follow her.

Time goes by as Jessie, Meowth, and Domino are still walking. Meowth's ears perk up. "Hmm…"

"Yeah, Meowth?" Jessie asked.

Before Meowth could respond, a bunch of Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod, and Kakuna appeared in front and behind the trio as Domino screamed. "BUGS!"

Jessie looks around the area. "So uhh… hi?" She waves nervously.

All the Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod, and Kakuna shoot out a bunch of white string at Jessie and Meowth. "AH!" They both yelled, now being completely covered in String Shot except their heads. Jessie and Meowth struggle to get out but they both are now stuck inside a white ball of String Shot.

"JESSIE, MEOWTH!" Before Domino could react, one of Weedle shoots String Shot at her eyes, completely blinding Domino. "AH, MY EYES!"

A mysterious figure appears behind Domino wraps a washcloth over her mouth to keep her quiet as a Caterpie shoots String Shot around her to restrain her from movement. More figures show up to pick Domino up off the ground as one of her Poké Balls drops from her pocket. Then the figures leave with her with Domino muffling along the way as all the Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod, and Kakuna follow too.

"DOMINO!" Jessie screamed out before trying to get out of the ball of String Shot, but couldn't.

"Who were those guys and why did they just kidnap Domino?" Meowth questioned.

"I don't know, but we need to get out of here fast!" Jessie says as she and Meowth continue struggling to get out of the String Shot ball.

The scene cuts to blackness as we see Domino's point of view. Whispers are heard around here as a random person speaks up. "Remove the String Shot from her eyes!"

Domino can see as her view is upside down. "Why is everything upside down?" She looks down below her and sees a pit with wooden sharp manmade spears in it and then she realizes that she is being dangled upside down by rope wrapped around one of her legs. "AH! SOMEONE HELP ME!"

"Scream all you want, but we're in the very deep parts of the Viridian Forest where no one can hear you." A Bug Catcher, with a red band straw hat instead of a blue one, approached her.

"Are you the psycho one who kidnapped me?!" Domino questioned.

The Bug Catcher shakes his head. "No, but I ordered it." He points at the other Bug Catchers surrounding the area. "My followers did. You see, my name is Timothy and I'm the leader of the Bug Catchers!"

All the other Bug Catchers bow down to their leader. "We're not worthy, leader Timothy!" They all said.

"Okay, this has just gotten weird," Domino says to herself. "Okay, you introduced yourself to me as the leader of the Bug Catchers, great, now can you let me go?"

Timothy shakes his head. "I can't do that, unfortunately. One of my followers told me that a certain blonde girl thinks all bug Pokémon are disgusting and despises them very much."

The Bug Catcher followers start booing Domino in response.

Domino groans in annoyance. "It's just my opinion! I'm not saying it as a fact!"

"Your opinion sucks then!" One of the Bug Catcher followers yelled out.

"Quiet, my followers," Timothy instructed. "You see, everyone always looks down at the bug type. I always hear people saying that the bug type isn't good, bug Pokémon are creepy and disgusting, and all of that nonsense. I finally had enough of the insults. I decided to make myself the leader of the Bug Catchers in the Viridian Forest and take care of anyone who dares to hate bug Pokémon!"

"Are you serious?!" Domino rhetorically questioned in confusion. "I know some people that don't like water Pokémon, yet I don't do all of this to them because I can accept opinions!"

"Quiet!" Timothy instructed again but to Domino this time. "As much as I want to drop you to your death right now. I'm fair, so we're going to hold a trial first and if you're proven guilty of bug defamation, you can kiss your life goodbye!" He turns to his followers. "Does anyone like to prosecute her? Please step forward."

"I will," Doug said, stepping forward.

Timothy nods in acknowledgment. "Very well and does anyone want to defend her?"

No Bug Catcher follower steps forward as Domino speaks up. "I can defend myself, thank you very much!"

"Very well. Onto the trial!" Timothy announced.

"Jessie, whatever you are, please hurry up and help me," Domino says to herself, worried.

The scene cuts back to where Jessie and Meowth are stuck inside a big String Shot ball, still struggling to get up. "Meowth, can your claws scratch us free?"

"I would love to use my claws, unfortunately only our heads are free," Meowth informed.

"Oh right." Jessie sighs. "We have to find a way to get to Domino because she is in trouble!"

A familiar criminal female voice with Jessie and Meowth is heard. "Did someone say trouble?" Followed up with a familiar criminal male voice. "Let's make it double!"

Both Jessie and Meowth groan in annoyance. "Not this again!" Jessie says.

The Team Rocket trio reveals themselves to the two as Cassidy starts up their motto. "To infect the world with devastation!" Then Butch follows up. "To blight all people in every nation."

Jessie frustratedly interrupts Team Rocket's motto. "We're not in the mood to hear this!"

Cassidy and Butch both get frustrated from Jessie interrupting the motto. "Twerpette, there's one rule you should not break and that's interrupting the Team Rocket motto!" Cassidy explained.

Meowth rolls her eyes. "I would rather eat dry food than hear them talk." He quietly says.

Cassidy clears his throat as she and Butch continue their motto. "To denounce the goodness of truth and love!" "To extend our wrath to the stars above!" A close-up of Cassidy. "Cassidy!" Then a close-up of Butch. "Butch!" "We're Team Rocket, circling Earth all day and night!" "Surrender now or you will surely lose the fight!" Mondo appears in front of the two to complete the motto. "I'm Mondo, alright!"

As Jessie and Meowth continue to struggle to get out of the String Shot ball, Cassidy laughs. "Look what we got here, fellas!"

Butch finishes Cassidy's rhetorical mark with a smirk. "A free-talking Meowth and a spark plug to steal!"

"I never thought it was going to be this easy." Mondo also laughs.

"You three better not touch Meowth or I'll-!" Jessie tries to free herself from the String Shot ball she's in again, but more aggressively, but she's still stuck as she looks down and sighs. "Aw, man…"

"It's okay, Jessie, it's not like these three doofuses are strong enough to even pull me out of this ball if they want to steal me" Meowth smirks.

Butch growls at Meowth. "How dare you call me a doofus! We will show you!" He looks at his partners-in-crime. "All three of us grab Meowth and pull!" Butch commanded as Cassidy and Mondo both nodded.

Team Rocket grabs Meowth's head as the three start pulling it, trying to set him free from being stuck inside the String Shot ball. "Ow! You idiots are going to end up pulling my head off!" Meowth yelled out in pain.

Despite Team Rocket's effort, the trio ended up falling to the ground from the friction after pulling very hard, unable to set Meowth free. "That's one strong String Shot…" Cassidy says, assumed then the trio quickly gets back up on their feet.

"Great, now what are we going to do?!" Butch asked, frustrated.

Mondo gets an idea. "The spark plug is in its Poké Ball, correct? So we grab its Poké Ball, run, then we come back to steal Meowth once they're free from being stuck!"

Cassidy thinks about the idea. "Hmm… Well, I would rather have both, but at least we're not leaving empty-handed."

Butch nods before smiling at Mondo. "Go for it, Mondo!"

Mondo nods back before running to the stuck Jessie. "Okay, let's see here." He starts extending his hand into the String Shot ball.

"I wouldn't do that if I was you. You're gonna end up getting your hand stuck inside the String Shot." Jessie warned.

"Shut up, Twerpette, so I can find your purse where your Pokémon are stored!" Mondo starts feeling around the area until he feels something like a purse. "I found it!" He extends his arm deeper into the String Shot to feel inside Jessie's purse and comes across a round-shaped object, most likely a Poké Ball. "I got it! I got it!" Mondo tries to pull his arm out of the String Shot ball, but can't as he starts to worry. "Um, guys, a little help here!"

"I told you," Jessie says with an annoyed expression.

Cassidy and Butch immediately get behind Mondo, grabbing his back. "On three, pull Beverly!"

"MY NAME IS-" Butch sighs in defeat. "Oh, whatever."

"One. Two. Three!" Both Cassidy and Butch start pulling Mondo out of the String Shot ball. This time, Cassidy and Butch succeed as they release Mondo's hand out of the String Shot ball as the trio falls to the ground once more.

Mondo groans in pain while holding his head then he looks at his other hand and he officially has one of Jessie's Poké Ball. "Mission accomplished!"

The Team Rocket trio immediately stands back up to admire the Poké Ball in Mondo's hands. "It's so beautiful!" Cassidy says in amazement.

"We finally got the spark plug back in Team Rocket's possession!" Butch added.

"Give me back my Pokémon!" Jessie struggles once more to get out of the String Shot ball but is not able to once more.

"Too bad, so sad, twerpette! Give us a call when the talking Meowth is free. Let's go, guys!" Cassidy and Mondo were about to sprint off.

Butch questions something that causes the two to stop. "Wait, how are we sure Mondo correctly grabbed the spark plug's Poké Ball from the twerpette's purse?"

"We run off first and then we check later!" Cassidy answered, about to sprint off again.

Butch immediately shakes his head. "No! I want to make sure because I'm not going to find the twerpette again in this long-ass forest if Mondo was wrong!"

Cassidy groans. "Fine! Mondo, send it out."

Mondo looks at the Poké Ball, worried. "I hoped I picked the right one…" He sends the Pokémon out.

Elekid doesn't materialize, instead, it is Pidgeotto, signaling that Mondo picked wrong. "Pidgeotto!"

Jessie immediately uses the opportunity to call out a move. "Pidgeotto, give them a powerful Gust and send them flying!"

Butch's eyes widened. "OH SHIT!"

"MONDO, RECALL IT!" Cassidy screamed at him.

"Pidgeotto, return!" Mondo tries to recall Pidgeotto.

But Pidgeotto dodges the red beam to avoid getting recalled and then the bird Pokémon flaps its wings at high speed straight at Team Rocket, blasting the trio in the sky as Mondo drops Pidgeotto's Poké Ball.

"You picked the wrong one, Mondo! Worse is that you picked the one Pokémon that could send us flying just like what happened!" Cassidy says to Mondo.

Mondo pouts. "I had a one in five chance and I picked incorrectly. Blame my bad luck!"

"At least we're going to be out of the forest whatever we land at," Butch stated.

"LOOKS LIKE TEAM ROCKET IS BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" Ding!

"Nice work, Pidgeotto!" Jessie complemented with a smile. "Do you think you can free us from this ball of String Shot?"

"Pidgeotto!" Pidgeotto flies up in the air before diving down fast into the String Shot ball to completely break it and free Jessie and Meowth.

"Nice job, bird!" Meowth gives Pidgeotto a thumbs up.

"Pidgeotto, try to find Domino fast and lead us to her! She's in great danger!" Jessie ordered.

"Pidgeotto!" Pidgeotto nods and flies off to find Domino.

"We're so lucky Mondo ended up picking Pidgeotto," Meowth says.

Jessie chuckles. "Tell me about it." She then sees two Poké Balls on the ground. "Huh?"

"What is it, Jessie?" Meowth looks where Jessie is looking at and sees the two Poké Balls on the ground. "Pidgeotto only has one Poké Ball, right?"

"You would be right, yes." Jessie walks over and grabs one of the Poké Balls off the ground sending them out.

Metapod ends up materializing. "Metapod."

"A Metapod?" Jessie realizes. "Is this Domino's Metapod?!"

"The Poké Ball must've dropped from her pocket when she was getting kidnapped," Meowth stated.

"The other one must be Pidgeotto's Poké Ball then." Jessie picks up Pidgeotto's Poké Ball and puts it back in her purse. "Let's hope Pidgeotto can find her fast." She picks up Metapod and starts holding the cocoon Pokémon in her arms.

The scene cuts to where Domino is, still dangling down over a hole with sharp wooden spears. "Hanging upside down for minutes is making me dizzy now." She says to herself.

Timothy looks at Doug. "Doug, you may begin with your closing statement of the trial."

Oblivious to Domino and the Bug Catchers, Jessie's Pidgeotto was able to find them, seeing them in the distance. "Pidgeotto!" It flies back to find and lead Jessie.

Doug begins his closing statement. "Yes, leader Timothy." He clears his throat. "Bug Catchers of the trial, not only the defendant is not denying any wrongdoing of discrimination of bug Pokémon but I witnessed her doing it, therefore she is guilty!"

Timothy looks at Domino. "Now the defendant may begin her closing statement."

Domino begins her closing statement. "Yeah, I have a closing statement alright! You people are all crazy, you all need to learn that I can have my own opinions, and you all have to accept it!"

The Bug Catchers followers all begin whispering and gossiping about Domino loudly as Timothy orders them to be silent. "Order! Order in the court! After each closing statement has concluded, my followers may now discuss if the defendant is guilty or innocent!"

Domino groans. "I can't believe this is how I'm going to die. Jessie, please save me."

The scene cuts back to Jessie and Meowth waiting for Pidgeotto to arrive as the bird Pokémon does so. "Pidgeotto! Pidgeotto!"

"Pidgeotto says they found Domino but we have to get there quickly!" Meowth translated.

"Let's go! Lead us the way, Pidgeotto!" Jessie commanded.

Pidgeotto nods and begins flying and leading Jessie and Meowth as they both follow with Jessie still carrying Domino's Metapod in her arms.

The scene cuts back to the bug catchers and Domino. The Bug Catcher followers break their hold. One of them speaks up. "Leader Timothy, after discussing for a few minutes, we have concluded."

Timothy nods. "Very well, what is your verdict?"

The bug catcher delivers their verdict. "We have concluded that the defendant is… guilty by discrimination of all bug Pokémon!"

Domino rolls her eyes. "What a shocker. You know all of this stuff you're doing right now is completely illegal, right?"

Timothy looks at Domino. "Silence! Domino, since you have been found guilty by our court, I will officially sentence you to death by being dropped into wooden spears!"

"Are you serious?! You're messed up in the head, you know that! Stop this ridiculous nonsense!" Domino tries to reach for the rope that she's tied on by her leg while being upside down, but can't. "I swear, you're gonna regret killing me!"

"Doug, cut the rope. Get rid of this bug hater once and for all!" Timothy commanded.

Doug nods. "Yes, leader Timothy." He pulls out a Poké Ball and sends out a Caterpie.

Caterpie materializes. "Caterpie!"

Doug points at the rope as his Caterpie nods and crawls up to the rope where Domino is dangling from by her leg. "What's it going to do?"

"Caterpie's gonna chew the rope, slowly tearing it apart. Once that happens, say goodbye to you, bug hater! It's slow, but more satisfying when you know your end is slowly coming!" Doug explained.

Pidgeotto flies into the scene with a loud cry to get everyone's attention. "Pidgeotto!"

The Bug Catcher followers look at Pidgeotto in confusion. "A Pidgeotto?" They all said.

"What's a Pidgeotto doing here?" Doug questioned.

Jessie and Meowth soon come in and they both notice Domino dangling below wooden spears. "DOMINO!" They both shouted.

"Great work, Pidgeotto," Jessie recalls Pidgeotto back in its Poké Ball.

The Bug Catcher followers all gasp in shock upon Jessie and Meowth entering as Timothy and Doug look more annoyed.

Domino sighs in relief. "About time you two found me here! Now help me before I get stabbed by wooden spears!"

Jessie soon notices Doug. "Doug?" She turns around and notices other bug catchers. "What's going on?"

"What's going on is that you have entered our secret area in the Viridian Forest!" Doug notices the Metapod in Jessie's hands. "Why is there a Metapod in your hands and not in its Poké Ball? Did you steal it?"

Jessie's eyes widened before making up some excuse. "Oh no, no, no. I figured Metapod just wanted some fresh air."

"Metapod." Metapod cried out.

Doug looks offended at Jessie's response. "And have it outside in this forest where it's dangerous and not inside and safe in its Poké Ball?! Don't you know that Metapod can barely move at all and not protect itself from other Pokémon?! You make me sick!"

Jessie snaps back at Doug. "Look, Doug, I came here to get my friend, Domino! I thought you were cool, but it seems like you and your friends, or whatever, kidnapped her and now are trying to kill her! If anyone is making anyone sick, it's you who is making me sick!"

Meowth snaps his fingers. "Oh snap!"

Doug grits his teeth and is about to respond until Timothy extends his hand in front of him as he takes over the conversation with Jessie. "You see, your friend here has been found guilty of discriminating bugs in our trial and has been sentenced to death."

"That is so messed up on so many levels!" Jessie crosses her arms. "You can't just sentence people to death for just having an opinion even if it is stupid."

"I heard that, Jessie!" Domino yelled out.

Timothy waves his finger. "But she discriminated against bug Pokémon in the Viridian Forest, the home of the bug catchers! The home of my followers! I haven't told you yet but my name is Timothy, the leader of the bug catchers!"

"Timothy, our leader!" The Bug Catcher follows all bowing their heads for Timothy.

"What kind of messed up cult is this?" Meowth says, quietly.

Jessie clutches her fist. "I challenge you to a Pokémon battle! If I win, you release Domino from the rope and let her go free, alive and well!"

The Bug Catcher followers all gasped upon Jessie's challenge as they started whispering. "No one has ever challenged our leader!" "She has guts, I'll give her that." "This isn't gonna end well for her, no one has ever beaten our leader in a battle."

Doug scoffs. "Too late. Domino has already been sentenced and we should try you for even challenging our leader to a Pokémon battle like that."

"Hold on, Doug, I accept the girl's challenge," Timothy says.

"Boss, are you kidding me?" Doug questioned.

Timothy looks at Doug with a serious expression. "I am not kidding, Doug. And you will only refer to me as 'leader'! Not 'boss'! Do I make myself clear?"

Doug nods and bows. "Yes, leader Timothy. My dear apologies."

Timothy looks back at Jessie. "Very well. Let's start the battle."

The scene cuts to Jessie and Timothy standing far from each other to make a made-up battlefield between each other. "This battle will be two-on-two. Will you accept these rules?" Timothy asked.

Jessie nods. "Yes, I agree."

"Before we can start." Timothy looks at Doug's Caterpie, still on the rope where Domino is dangling. "Caterpie, after each of us sends out a Pokémon for this battle, I want you to start chewing the rope. Understand?"

Caterpie nods. "Caterpie!"

"HEY!" Domino screamed out. "What's the big deal?!"

"Every single second this battle passes, the rope is gonna get thinner and thinner and if you waste too much time, Domino will be plunged into the wooden spears!" Timothy smirks at Jessie. "So I hope you don't waste too much time."

"Jessie, I say Domino isn't worth it, we just met her a few days ago. How about you just call the battle off and we can get out of this forest alive?" Meowth asked.

Domino screams out in a blast of rage. "I SWEAR, MEOWTH, IF YOU AND JESSIE ABANDONED ME TO DIE I WILL HAUNT YOU TWO FOREVER!"

Everyone closed their ears upon Domino's screaming. "Can we just dump her in the spears already, leader Timothy?" One of the Bug Catcher followers asked.

Timothy pulls out a Poké Ball. "Poké Ball, go!" He sends it flying in the air.

The Poké Ball opens to materialize an insect Pokémon with a spherical body covered in purple fur. "Venonat!" It cried out.

"Whoa, that's a Venonat!" Jessie starts thinking inside her mind. "I can't use Meowth because of that battle he had with Pikachu. I fought Doug with Elekid, Pidgeotto had to deal with Team Rocket and find Domino, and Kakuna could barely move. Which means…" She pulls out a Poké Ball from her purse. "Pikachu, I choose you!" Jessie sends out her first Pokémon.

Pikachu materializes and looks more annoyed than happy. "Pikachu…"

After Timothy and Jessie both send out their Pokémon, Caterpie begins to chew on the rope that is holding Domino by one of her legs.

Jessie commands the first move. "Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!"

However, Pikachu doesn't do what Jessie commands and yawns instead. "Pikachu…" Then it lays down.

Jessie was in disbelief while Meowth was trying his best to hold his laugh. "PIKACHU! Why aren't you listening to me?!" Jessie questioned in disbelief. "I need you to use Thunder Shock!"

Pikachu doesn't listen to Jessie once more and goes up to the nearest tree to lie down on the branch and yawn again. "Pikachu…"

"Venonat?" Venonat cries in confusion.

As Doug and the rest of the Bug Catcher followers start laughing, Jessie growls before recalling Pikachu. "Pikachu, return!"

"And just like that, you're already down to just one Pokémon." Timothy scoffs. "I don't know if you came here to battle or to put up a comedic act."

"I… can't believe I'm going to die." Domino sheds a tear while still being upside down.

Metapod sees Domino shed a tear and the cocoon Pokémon looks at the Caterpie biting into the rope. "Metapod!" Then it starts to glow white, signaling evolution.

Jessie starts to panic inside her mind. "What am I going to do?! Do I have to use Kakuna?! I can't think now, I'm wasting time!"

Jessie was about to pull out a different Poké Ball until Meowth tugged on her gray skirt. "Uhh, Jessie…"

Jessie turns around. "What is it Meowth, time is wast-" She cuts off her sentence after seeing a butterfly Pokémon instead of a Metapod as she gasps in shock. "M-Metapod, you evolved into a…"

Meowth chuckles. "I knew you could evolve into a Butterfree one day!"

"Freeeee!" Butterfree flies in front of Jessie, wanting to battle.

"Butterfree, you want to battle as my second Pokémon?" Jessie asked.

Butterfree looks back at Jessie and nods. "Free!"

"Butterfree, use Tackle!" Jessie commanded.

"Free!" Butterfree starts diving straight to Venonat.

"Dodge it, Venonat!" Timothy countered.

"Venonat!" Venonat rolls out of the way to dodge Butterfree's Tackle.

Timothy commands his first move of the battle. "Now use Confusion!"

Venonat starts disappearing and reappearing all over the made-up battlefield. Butterfree tries to spot Venonat, only to end up getting confused. "Butterfree?"

Venonat appears behind Butterfree and attacks the butterfly Pokémon to deal damage. "Venonat!"

"Free!" Butterfree cries out in pain as it falls to the ground.

Jessie's jaw opens in shock. "Butterfree, come on, you gotta get up, this battle is very important!"

Butterfree slowly gets up and is back on its feet. "Free!"

Jessie smiles. "That's the spirit!"

Domino tries to help. "Jessie, use a status move! That's what Butterfree is known for!"

"A status move?" Jessie questioned.

"Quiet or I'll have Caterpie chew faster!" Doug warned Domino.

Domino frustratedly responds. "Well excuse me when my life is ticking down here!"

Meowth continues to help Jessie. "A move that will cause a Pokémon to have a status, like sleep, burn, paralysis, and others. It won't deal any damage, but it's helpful in battles."

Jessie nods. "I see now."

"Enough talking! Venonat, use Tackle!" Timothy command.

Venonat starts dashing towards Butterfree. "Venonat!"

"Butterfree, dodge it and use Sleep Powder!" Jessie commanded.

Butterfree quickly flies up and out of the way to dodge Venonat's tackle. "Free!" The butterfly Pokémon starts flapping its wings and blue power comes out, immediately putting Venonat to sleep.

Timothy gasps. "Oh no, Venonat! Wake up!"

Jessie smiles in delight, pointing at Venonat. "Now use Tackle!"

"Free!" Butterfree dives down and tackles the Venonat, knocking it out of the battle.

"Venonat, return!" Timothy recalls Venonat from its Poké Ball.

The Bug Catcher followers all gasp in shock. "No way! The leader has lost one Pokémon to this girl!" One of the followers says.

Jessie holds up one finger with a satisfied smile. "Now we're one even with one Pokémon each!"

"That might be so, but look!" Timothy points at the rope getting thinner with Caterpie's chewing on it, causing Jessie's smile to fade away. "You're almost out of time and you're not ready for this next Pokémon! Poké Ball, go!" Timothy pulls out his second Poké Ball and throws it in the air.

The Poké Ball opened and what materialized was a dull-brown Pokémon with gray spiky pincers on its head. "Pinsir! Pinsir!"

"Whoa!" Jessie immediately pulls out her Pokédex and points it at Pinsir.

"Pinsir, the Stag Beetle Pokémon, bug type. If it fails to crush the victim in its pincers, it will swing it around and toss it hard."

"Pinsir, grab Butterfree with your pincers!" Timothy commanded.

"Pinsir!" Pinsir dashes at Butterfree and grabs it with its Pinsirs.

"Freeeee!" Butterfree tries to struggle to escape, but Pinsir's grip is too tight on it.

Jessie's mouth opens in shock. "Oh no, Butterfree! Come on, escape!"

"Freeee!" Once more, Butterfree tries to struggle to get out, but it's not good.

Timothy laughs. "Now that your Butterfree isn't going anywhere, we can watch the grand finale of Domino being dropped into the wooden spears!" He turns around to face Domino.

To Domino's worry, Caterpie is halfway through chewing the rope. "JESSIE YOU GOT TO THINK OF SOMETHING!"

"COME ON, JESSIE, THINK!" Meowth also yelled out.

Jessie starts to sweat in fear before noticing that despite Pincir holding Butterfree tightly with its pincers, its wings are still freed, and recalling what Meowth said. "'Like sleep, burn, paralysis, and others' Butterfree, use Stun Spore!"

"Free!" Butterfree flaps its wings and orange powder is released, hitting Pinsir and automatically paralyzing the stag beetle Pokémon.

Static electricity surrounds Pinsir, causing the Pokémon to wince in pain. "Pinsir!" The paralysis causes Pinsir to slowly let go of Butterfree.

Butterfree quickly flies out and escapes. "Free!" The butterfly Pokémon cheers happily.

Jessie clutches her fist. "Yes, way to go, Butterfree!"

Timothy turns around and his jaw drops. "WHAT?! HOW?!"

"Now Butterfree, use Gust!" Jessie commanded.

"Free!" Butterfree starts flapping its wings strongly, creating a strong gust of wind in Pinsir's way, sending the Stag Beetle into a tree and it gets knocked out.

"No! Pinsir!" Timothy falls to his knees in disbelief and defeat, recalling his Pinsir.

Meowth celebrates. "Yes! Jessie won the battle!"

Domino saw Jessie and Butterfree battled great together and she smiled. "Wow-" She gets interrupted by the rope snapping, Caterpie has finished chewing the rope all of the way to cause it to break, then Domino starts plummeting to the hole of sharp wooden spears below. "AHHHH!"

"DOMINO!" Both Jessie and Meowth screamed out.

"FREE!" Butterfree quickly flies towards Domino.

"GOODBYE WORLD!" Domino closes her eyes but all of a sudden she stops falling. "Wha?" She opens her eyes and looks down to see that she is on top of Butterfree. "B-Butterfree, you saved me!"

"Free!" Butterfree cries out in joy as it flies to a safe area for Domino to drop down.

Doug growls before recalling his Caterpie back in its Poké Ball and going to Timothy. "Come on, we have to get out of here before those two call the police."

Timothy slowly gets up. "I-I can't believe I lost."

"The leader has lost!" "We have to get out of here!" "Everyone, run!" The Bug Catcher followers quickly run out of the area, and Timothy and Doug follow.

"HEY, GET BACK HERE!" Jessie tries to chase them.

Meowth gets in front of her, stopping Jessie. "It ain't worth it. There's like eight of them and only you and Domino. The most important thing is that she is safe and not dead."

Jessie sees Domino smiling gracefully at Butterfree as she turns back around to face Meowth, nodding. "You're right."

The scene cuts to Jessie, Domino, and Meowth, with Butterfly flying with them. They soon start seeing less and less trees before realizing they have found a way out of the Viridian Forest. "I think we're finally out of the Viridian Forest!" Jessie stated.

Meowth looks to his right, sees a path, and points it out. "Guys, I see a path! This might lead us to Pewter City!"

"Yeah!" Domino looks at Butterfree. "Despite the fact I have been treating you cruelly when you were a Caterpie and a Metapod, you still saved me from death. I-I'm so grateful, thank you so much!" She sheds a tear in happiness.

"Free! Free! Free!" Butterfree cries out in joy.

"Butterfree said they couldn't just let you fall to your doom like that despite what happened in the past!" Meowth translated with a smile.

Jessie starts smirking. "So Domino, does that mean you will stop hating on bug Pokémon?"

Domino angrily pouts, turns around, and crosses her arms. "No! I still think they're disgusting creatures and that big catcher cult made me hate them even more!"

Butterfree looks down in sadness. "Free…"

Domino turns back around to face Butterfree, smiling again. "But Butterfree is an exception."

Butterfree looks back up and cries out in joy, shedding a tear in happiness. "Free! Free! Free!"

"Well, it's a happy ending either way! Let's get going!" Jessie turns around and starts heading to the path with Meowth following her.

Domino pulls out Butterfree's Poké Ball, looking at it while frowning, then she looks at Jessie. "Wait, Jessie."

Jessie and Meowth stop in their tracks as they turn around. "Yes, Domino?" Jessie asked.

"Here, I want you to have this." Domino hands Jessie Butterfree's Poké Ball to her. "I want you to have Butterfree from now on."

Jessie looks at Butterfree's Poké Ball with a jaw drop and her eyes are sparkling. "B-but why are you giving me Butterfree?"

"Because when I saw you battle with Butterfree while being dangled upside down and the way I treated it as a Caterpie and Metapod, I don't think I deserve Butterfree," Domino answered.

Jessie looks at Butterfree. "Butterfree, is it okay for you to be my Pokémon now?"

Butterfree flies around in amazement, nodding. "Free! Free! Free!"

"They said yes three times." Meowth translated with a laugh.

"Well… it's an honor! Butterfree, return!" Jessie recalls Butterfree and then jumps in the air in excitement. "I got a new friend!"

The narrator begins talking. "Jessie's got a new friend to add to her party! After a deadly situation Domino was in, Jessie was able to rescue her with the help from Butterfree and now she's focused on getting to Pewter City for her first ever Gym Badge!"
