I woke up at dawn to see my siblings leave,Cara decided to make food that should last a century for them on their way.The looks on their faces showed they were grateful but it was too much
My parents didn't come to see them off,but Dain and Lauretta did.Lauretta decided to apologize because she crossed a line she shouldn't have and I had to forgive her
We had nothing to do after we watched my siblings fly off on their dragons.I didn't have a night terror last night-Thank Heavens and the clock showed it was seven in the morning
"So....Any plans for today"Dain asked as he slouched on the couch and we shook our heads in unison
"How is training going"I asked mostly looking at Dain "It's going pretty good as always"he replied
"How is Evander"Lauretta asked finally speaking "He is.....much better"I replied staring her down. She knew not to talk about him, everyone knew not to talk about him
"I can't wait to go to a royal wedding"she said looking at the sky like she was day dreaming
I let out a sardonic chuckle "You really do know how to piss me off Lauretta" I said before standing up and going towards my room
"I don't know what I said wrong"she said giving a wry smile.
I hadn't had breakfast so it's best I go have one now and go back to bed
"Why are you still friends with her"Cara said as I sat on the stool in the kitchen.
"You know I don't have a lot of people I can call my friends"I said as she slid my breakfast to me on the counter
"It's best to not have friends than to have one who secretly hates you"Cara said sitting across from me.I didn't think Lauretta hated me,she just had no one too check her for her bad behaviors seeing as she doesn't have siblings
She's a spoiled only child who feels the world should revolve around her.
"I really hope she doesn't hurt you one of these days"Cara said as she walked out of the kitchen
I walked towards the living room where I left them both and called out to them to come have breakfast
I didn't bother to check if they heard or not as I walked towards my room
I got into my room and laid on the bed as I stared at the ceiling. The gentle morning sunlight was illuminating the intricate tapestries that decorated my room, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.
I closed my eyes begging for sleep to envelop me but nothing came instead my mind was filled with thoughts of Evander. We had decided that since both our names started with the letter 'E' our kids should have names starting with the letter 'A'
He already picked out three names. We wanted to have two girls and a boy and I could still remember the names he said we would give them
Silent Tears streamed down the sides of my face
I remembered vividly how his face looked the day he put the ring on his fiancée .I wasn't supposed to be there and I had no idea anything was going on
I walked up a flight of stairs and looked down to see all the officials of the empire present
I even saw my father.Evander put the ring on her fingers and his father said to kiss his bride. He reluctantly did so and immediately he broke it off our eyes met.I couldn't place the emotion that was evident on his face and I was sick to my stomach
I ignored him for weeks,he'll come to my house and I would refuse to see him.He did this every day for a month until I felt bad for him and called him upstairs where he explained everything to me.
I had forgotten about all this, put it at the far end of my mind. Not until Lauretta decided to dig them up,maybe Cara was right she wasn't really a friend
Sleep wouldn't come so I decided to read a book but I could only read it in the Library because of the rules
I let out a big sigh and headed in that direction.
I walked in to see my father seated at the center with a book in hand.He hadn't seen me so it's best to silently walk back to my room
I took a step back before I heard my name "Elara what do you want?" his thunderous voice echoed
"I just needed a book father" i said almost biting on my tongue but I didn't get a reply
I honestly didn't feel like reading anymore but I couldn't tell him that.Staying in the same space with my father made me very uncomfortable and now I would have to sit down at the table he is at to read
I took a book of the shelf, didn't bother to check the name and sat down at the opposite side from him.He lowered his book at little to examine me,judge me
"What book is that" he asked with a brow raised.I told him the name and he scoffed "You're reading fiction?"he asked judgment laced in his tone and I nodded "Why?"he asked putting his book down
"It's an escape from reality"i softly said maintaining eye contact and he let out a small smile
"Well have fun"he grunted as he stood "I bought them because of you any ways"
He said that and he was out of the door immediately,Maybe he didn't really hate me
"Elara..."I heard my mothers ethereal voice say as she walked into the library "Should I plan your party or you would want to do that yourself"
"It would be best you plan it mother"i said closing my book and she nodded
"Are you excited about the Academy, you would be leaving in 8 days"she said "Hope you are packed" and I nodded as she walked out
Growing up,I never really had the option of saying what I really wanted.I had to always agree with what my parents thought was best for me so I got so used to nodding to show I agreed with them and that gestured followed me well into adulthood
