Chapter 13 - A night spent in a grocery stall

Henry decided to go to a private place to reflect the magics in the metal and come up with different discoveries. It was let in the evening and darkness was encroaching the planet. It could be dangerous to them in the fight since they could not easily identify the monsters in darkness. He went with Paul to find a place to rest. Since everyone was fearful of the monsters in the planet, it was difficult for them to find a place to sleep since no one could open the door for them. Henry decided to come up with different ideas to find accomodation.

"So what will we do since we are at unfamiliar place and non can open the door to accomodate us?" Henry asked Paul. "Let us run towards the military school for our safety. I know you will not accept this since you are under investigation but that is the only way we can defend ourselves against the dangerous monsters," Paul suggested. Henry laughed and said," it is better you know I cannot go back to the military school." Henry thought of a different idea and told Paul just to follow him. Henry was sure they were out of danger since they had a magic metal which was repelling the monsters. They moved for a short distance before they saw a grocery stall.

It was a manually constructed structure which looked portable from a distance. They headed towards the stall to check if it had a capacity to accomodate them for one night. The approached the stall only to find out that it was portable but Henry suggested to use it since they were once soldiers though not qualified ones. Henry walked all round the stall to check the entrance. He never saw any open space to let them in. They decided to sit down and relax as they thought of the next step. Henry sat close to the stall and leaned on its wall. Suddenly, Henry found himself in the stall immediately he leaned on it. That was the time he realized that he was leaning on a temporary door.

Paul entered the stall too since he had been filled up with fear and anxiety not to let Henry go even one step away from him. They were all surprised with the design the stall was built. Darkness had covered the stall to an extent that they couldn't see anything. Paul lit the stall to check if it was fit and safe for them to use. Surprisingly, they saw some fruits in the stall shelves which were somehow fresh from the look. They quickly went to pick them. Some had rotten, some were in the process of rotting, some were well rippen while others were still raw.

Something came into their minds and came to a discovery that the owner of the stall ran away in fear of the monsters leaving behind the stall unclosed. There was some water in the other corner of the stall. Henry took several rippen fruits and went directly to the water point to wash. Paul did the same. After thorough cleanness of the fruits, they sat on buckets of water and started enjoying as they conversed. "The owner of this stall might have been killed by the dragons or just ran away due to fear," Henry said. " what you are saying might be the true story but let us hope he/she ran away. Loosing any human at this moment is very dangerous to the entire human race. We might end up remaining with little population if this situation persists," Paul replied.

"Everything has an end. I have a strong believe that the human race will one day dominate the monsters," Henry said in a low tone. The conversation went on for some minutes before they both wanted to rest as they had a tiresome day. Henry took the empty bags from the shelves and few box pieces and used them as his beddings. But something funny was that they were taller than the stall hence becoming a problem to them. Henry never ran out of ideas. They decided to lie in the stall in a horizontal manner. This one looked better for them though their legs would still protrude outside the stall. They decided to coil themselves in order to fit the available space.

They could soon find themselves deep in sleep but this was not the case to them. Henry really wanted to know how the magic metal was working and on the other hand, Paul wanted to know the metal Henry was holding and the origin of its powers. This was something they were both concerned in the stall. They rested for a period of time before Paul started talking. Henry thought that he was dreaming but that was not the case. Henry stretched his hand to touch Paul only to find out that he was awake. That was when he listened keenly to generate answers.

"The metal you have has performed some miraculous actions to save me from the deadly dragons. Can I know where you sourced it?" Paul asked. This could be an indication that Paul's senses were coming back to reality after a long time of confusion in the fight with the dragons in which he almost died were it not for the presense of Henry. Henry replied, " the time I escaped from the military, I ran into a mountain forest where I found myself in hot soup. During this time, I saw a certain hole which I entered to save my life from the wolf that was attacking me. Inside the hole is where I found this metal. I too don't know how to use it but am seeing unique powers in it." This was a short story given to Paul.

They were both in dilemma since non of them had a ful explanation of the story. Henry entered into the world of imaginations and found himself deep in sleep. That was the time a mechanical voice echoed in his mind.

[Congratulations for binding to the dominator system. This metal belongs to you for your protection from the monsters and anyone around you. Don't tell anyone of this. If you reveal anything about this metal, your powers will be withdrawn. Ensure that no one touches that metal and always walk along with it.]

Before the system disappeared, Henry asked, " How do I manage to fight the monsters since this metal is repelling the monsters? The system replied, [Always cover up the metal before fighting the monsters]". The system then disappeared immediately. Henry was then shocked waking up immediately. He found Paul deep in sleep. He was looking healthy and strong. He stretched his hand to check the time only to find out that it was almost dawn. He went back to sleep but keen with the magic metal. It didn't take long before Paul stretched his legs stepping on the wall of the stall. The voice from the iron sheets made Henry to become very alert. Since the space was not enough for them, they slept with less comfort. They had just squeezed in the stall.

No sooner had they relaxed than they heard cocks crowing from the neighborhood. They knew that darkness was almost going to rest welcoming a new day. Henry uncovered his face and slowly looked through the openings on the stall. There was alot of darkness making him to discover that too much darkness is an indication of the end of it. Henry told Paul to wake up since the stall didn't belonged to them. Wild birds on the other hand joined cocks in welcoming the new day in a style. This was the time they saw some light filtrating into the stall. They both took water and washed their faces before they matched out of the stall.

Henry held the metal strongly in the right hand. Paul insisted to know everything about the metal and this was the time Henry decided to lie to him. "This is just a normal metal. I think the dragons were just tired of fighting us that is why they ran away." Paul accepted though doubtful of the response received. They both headed towards the West though they were not sure of where they were going. Paul stopped and asked, "where are we heading to?" "Wait, to be safe let us go to your home because you told me that you live here in town," Henry replied. They both stopped to discuss the matter before coming to a conclusion that Henry was going to escort Paul to his home before Henry heading to the slums.

They headed in the city step by step just to ensure that Paul was safe. The day was welcomed by bright sun rays from the East forming long shadows as they moved. They just enjoyed the nature as they studied their shadows. It was a relief for them since they were shivering. This was due to cold conditions in the stall they slept in. As they moved nearer to Paul's compound, Henry decided not to go in but just told Paul to enter alone. Henry remained standing to ensure that Paul enters the house safety. Paul ran towards the door and just entered through the roof openings since he had knocked the door without receiving any response. Henry then turned to head to the slums.
