Chapter 52 - Chapter 52

Five months later.

"So, we're going to the Widow's Crypt, right?" I asked, glancing at Arthur, who was checking the time.

"Yeah," he replied without looking up.

"Where will you leave Sylvie, or are you taking her with us?" I asked, while Ebon, perched on my bed, was busy playing with Sylvie. Arthur shrugged as if it were no big deal.

"We'll leave them in the wild."

That didn't sit well with me. "You sure? I've never left Ebon in the wild since he was born."

Arthur smiled, clearly confident. "He'll learn, and besides, Sylvie will be with him."

"Okay, if you say so," I muttered, though still skeptical. I knew Arthur trusted Sylvie, but the thought of leaving Ebon on his own made me uneasy.

Arthur shifted the conversation. "And what's up with Elijah? He was acting weird yesterday."

I hesitated, not entirely sure, but Ebon had been the one to notice something. "Yeah, about that… I visited him. Apparently, he wasn't able to sleep for days. I don't know why, but Ebon licked him, and then he fell asleep in a couple of minutes." I glanced at Ebon, who had turned a grayish-black, suppressing most of his draconic features. He seemed peaceful now, but I remembered how weird that moment with Elijah had been.

"Hmmm," Arthur mused, pulling his hair back into his usual small ponytail. His hair had definitely grown since the last time I saw him.

"Your hair's grown," I pointed out.

He grinned, suppressing a laugh. "Well, I don't have an obsessive girlfriend who prefers short hair."

"Shut up, will you? I'm already regretting that decision I made a week ago."

Arthur smirked, clearly enjoying this. "Weren't you the one who said, 'Bro, I'll never cut my hair, no matter what happens'? Hahaha! Where's that Lucas? I didn't see him when she dragged you to the barber."

"Shut up already!" I snapped, though I couldn't help but feel the embarrassment rising. "Now don't you have to prepare for the dungeon tomorrow? Scram already."

Arthur left, laughing heartily, with Sylvie trailing behind him.

"So Art won't be here tonight… I thought we could drink together…" I sighed, glancing at Ebon, who had grown noticeably in width, looking more menacing, but still oddly cute.

"HEYYY!" Ebon yelled in my mind, annoyed. Despite his complaints, he still had that baby dragon face. Half the people wanted to pet him, while the other half wanted me. What can I say?

"Narcissist," Ebon remarked with a disgusted look.

"It's true, and you can't deny the glory," I replied smugly.

"More like goofiness," Ebon shot back.

"Shut up, reptilian. Let me enjoy my moment." I grinned. Now, where was I… Oh yeah, the past few months had been… interesting. I sighed, remembering the trouble I had unintentionally caused. From getting suspended for a week due to a bit of "extra" thrashing in duels to teachers complaining about me, all because of external pressures. What could the wind do to a mountain, though?

Sure, I might have fought a lot and bullied a bit, which earned me a reputation as a bully. But honestly, it made things easier for me. Despite the problems, my improvements outweighed them. I had spent these months refining my sword style, making it more precise, just as Professor Glory had advised. And who better to help me than Arthur, the sword prodigy himself?

I'd learned a lot from him, enough to switch between styles efficiently. I know it sounds unreasonable, but my body just seemed to work better in one of them. Though it lagged a bit in the more efficient one, it was getting better as I trained more.

Then there was the issue with my core. That's been a real problem. Half of my light orange core had this pitch-black spot, about the size of a marble. I couldn't shake the thought that it might be something serious—maybe even core cancer or something. I tried to study it, but who could I ask? After searching and hitting dead ends, I came up with my own theory: due to not exerting mana from that core, it had become stagnant, and the impurities were causing it to rot.

"What do you think of my theory?" I mused out loud.

"It's actually plausible," Ebon chimed in.

"Not asking you," I shot back. But it did make sense—the darker the core, the more impurities. And with black being the worst and white the purest, it only made sense that the core was rotting from the inside.

Just as I was lost in thought, the door swung open with a loud thud. My heart skipped a beat, immediately recognizing the figure standing in the doorway. A familiar warmth filled my chest as I saw her, unable to hide my happiness at her sudden appearance.

Veronica POV:-

I looked back at the boy who had completely taken over my heart. A part of me rationally thought about kidnapping him, keeping him just for myself, but as I watched him laughing and interacting with Arthur, Elijah, Emily, and the others, I couldn't help but smile.

Seeing him carefree like this... I wanted to be a part of that, to have him smile like that with me too. But then I noticed something—or rather, someone was missing.

That Triscan boy wasn't around, and I couldn't help but feel a wave of relief. I hated him. He acted strange whenever he was near my darling, and it irritated me. But still, he was one of Darling's friends, and I tolerated it. For now.

I couldn't hold back any longer. I ran straight to him, throwing my arms around him in a hug, my body moving on instinct as I tackled him to the bed. Oops. Not planned, but still, totally worth it. He looked at me with that slightly hurt, surprised expression. Oh Darling, why do you have to be so irresistibly cute? I could feel my heart pounding, my mouth almost moving on its own, ready to give him the deepest kiss ever. No, Veronica, control yourself, I scolded internally. You don't want him to think you're a freak. Restraint!

Tracing my finger along his chin, I lifted his face up to meet my gaze. His embarrassed expression, his pale blonde hair messily framing his face—it was all for me, only me. I wasn't the same Veronica as before. The old me, with her defensive walls, was gone. Now, I was his Veronica, the one who would do anything for him. "How are you, love?" I asked softly, lowering my face just a bit, enjoying the way his blush deepened.

"I'm okay, but... could you let me up?" His voice was nervous, his blush spreading as I let my fingers trace over his abs. He grew even redder under my touch, and I couldn't help but think, So. Freaking. Cute.

"I don't want to," I replied firmly, my voice soft but unwavering. Moving closer, I grabbed his hands, locking him in place. There was no escape. My mind was screaming restraint, but my heart and body was begging. He had kissed me once before—last month, but it was short, thanks to that dog child interrupting us. Well, this time I wasn't going to regret holding back.

Without another thought, I tilted his face up toward mine and pressed my lips against his, invading his mouth with my tongue. I want every bit of you, Darling. All of you. For about ten seconds—far too short for my liking—I kissed him, tasting the sweetness of him, until I felt his hand weakly pushing against me. Reluctantly, I pulled away, the thin trail of saliva connecting our mouths, and I wiped it away with a satisfied smirk. Felt like a Vampire from the stories sucking away the blood of its prey.

He was utterly flustered, his hand covering his mouth as he tried to defend himself. His face was a deep shade of red, and his voice was shaky as he stammered, "C-Can I go now?" Still grabbing his other hand.

Not so fast, Darling. I wasn't going to let him leave until everything was confirmed, until he was mine. The only thing I regretted was the open door. But no matter. This moment was mine. "Darling," I whispered, leaning closer to him as his hands remained raised in a futile attempt to stop me. "Let's get married."

His eyes widened even more. He stuttered again, "Y-Yeah, sure, but can you please get up?"

I knew where I was sitting, a pretty dangerous position if somebody saw us like that but I wasn't going to let this chance go , I could feel him beneath me, but I didn't want to move. Let's do it, Darling. Let's make this real. But before anything could happen, that annoying voice cut through the moment, disrupting everything.

"Lucas, are you okay?" I whipped my head around, glaring at the green-haired elf standing in the doorway. This dog child again... always interrupting us.
