Chapter 43 - Chapter 43

"He's also in the Student Council," Tessia said, tugging at my hair, snapping me out of my trance. I looked up, realizing the entire student body was present on the training grounds, all eyes on me. I must have drifted off into deep thoughts without noticing.

I was sitting under the shade of a tree, the breeze gently cooling my face. Professor Glory, with her maroon hair tied into a ponytail, addressed me, her tone half-amused, half-serious. "Oh, another anomaly—Mr. Wykes, our genius freshman. I've heard quite a bit about you, and not all of it is pleasant." Her grin widened, yellow eyes glowing as she rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "It'll be a good chance to test your abilities."

She then gestured towards the battleground, her intent clear. "The six of you, gear up!" she ordered, pointing towards the area where the equipment was laid out.

I glanced over at Tessia, confused. "What the hell is happening?"

"You don't know? We're about to have a mock battle," she replied, nodding towards the opposite end of the field. "With who?" I asked, still piecing together what was going on.

She pointed towards where Arthur, Prince Curtis, and a red-haired girl were standing, their expressions calm yet focused. "With the Disciplinary Committee."

I spotted Arthur among them, his smile widening as he caught sight of us. A grin spread across my face in return. This was going to be interesting.

I quickly fastened my gear, glancing over to see the Artisa couple flirting, giving tessia a thumbs-up in silent encouragement. Their moment was short-lived, though, as Professor Glory interrupted them, reminding everyone to stop fraternizing with the enemy and start preparing. The match was about to begin in two minutes.

Soon, both teams stood face to face, with Professor Glory in the center. "The match will have a time limit of thirty minutes," she announced. "After which, we'll have a short discussion and analysis of what plays out."

She continued, "The Disciplinary Committee will have a handicap, as Curtis and Claire have had more classical training than the SC team, which has two first years." Professor Glory paused, trying to build suspense, but it didn't quite land as intended.

Then came the twist. "Arthur Leywin will be acting as the King. If you defeat him, the whole team loses."

As she explained the rules and equipment, I noticed Victor—yeah, that was his name—eyeing me with thinly veiled intent. He masked it well, but I could sense the challenge behind his gaze.

Professor Glory lifted her hand confidently into the air, signaling the start. "Let the battle commence!"

As Professor Glory's hand sliced through the air, signaling the start of the match, both teams immediately sprang into action. Tessia and Curtis clashed fiercely to my left, while Victor and Claire faced off on the right. The tension was palpable, and I couldn't help but anticipate a showdown between the Artisa couple.

But instead of rushing into battle, Arthur and I stood our ground. We exchanged glances, a silent understanding passing between us. It was like we both knew what the other was thinking.

I smirked and muttered, "Yo, Art, wanna give them a show?"

Arthur's gaze sharpened, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "I was just thinking the same thing," he replied, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth.

The atmosphere in the arena shifted instantly as Arthur and I unleashed our bloodlust. The oppressive force hung thick in the air, silencing the battlefield.

I caught glimpses of Tessia and Curtis halting their fight, their expressions twisted with a mix of shock and awe. Even Victor and Claire, who had been focused on each other, paused to take in the sudden shift in power.

Professor Glory's face faltered, a crack appearing in her composed exterior. The crowd, which had initially underestimated us, was now visibly struggling to breathe under the weight of our presence. I could see the disbelief in their eyes as they realized we weren't just any freshmen.

Arthur's ring glowed green as he drew his weapon—a black stick that swiftly unfolded into a crystal blue blade, perfectly suited for him. He looked at me, his voice steady. "Pure Mana Augmentation?"

I nodded, focusing on my katana. I had never tried channeling pure mana into it before, always relying on fire mana for augmentation. But this time, I poured raw, dense mana into the blade.

The runes along its edge glowed like an ancient, undying flame, and the blade itself shifted from black to a dark, ominous purple. It was new—something I hadn't seen before. Usually, only the tip glowed, but now the entire blade radiated power.

Taking my stance, I let my katana hang loose, my head low as I locked eyes with Arthur. We shared a wide grin, a silent agreement that this was going to be something extraordinary.

In a blur, we moved. Our swords met with a deafening clash, sparks flying from the impact.

The collision of our mana-infused blades ignited small flames at the point of contact, the sheer force of our power sending shockwaves through the arena.

The battle had begun in earnest, and there was no holding back.

The air crackled with energy as Lucas and Arthur squared off, their gazes locked, and their weapons gleaming under the sunlight. The tension was palpable, and the students who were once caught in their own battles now stood frozen, unable to tear their eyes away from the scene unfolding before them.

Lucas gripped his katana tightly, the dark purple hue of the blade pulsating with raw mana. Arthur's crystal blue blade shimmered with equal intensity, a manifestation of his own mastery over mana. They stood still for a moment, each calculating the other's next move, the silence broken only by the soft rustling of leaves in the wind.

And then, in a blur of motion, they collided.

The sound of metal striking metal rang out, sharp and clear. Sparks flew as their blades met with a force that shook the ground beneath their feet. Lucas pushed forward, his katana slicing through the air with deadly precision. Arthur parried each strike with ease, his movements fluid and controlled, matching Lucas blow for blow.

Neither gave an inch.

They moved like phantoms, their figures a blur of motion as they danced across the battlefield. Every swing of Lucas's katana was met with Arthur's blade, the clash of steel creating a rhythm that echoed through the clearing. It was a display of pure skill, both fighters evenly matched, their techniques honed to perfection.

Lucas twisted his body, his katana slashing horizontally, but Arthur ducked under the strike and retaliated with a swift upward swing. Lucas blocked it with a deft flick of his wrist, the force of the impact sending a jolt through his arm. He smirked, the thrill of the fight igniting something primal within him.

Arthur's eyes narrowed in concentration. He sidestepped Lucas's next attack, and with a quick motion, aimed a punch directly at Lucas's face. P GsLucas barely had time to react as Arthur's fist connected with his cheek, the force of the blow sending him stumbling back a few steps.

But Lucas recovered quickly, wiping a trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand. He let out a low chuckle, his eyes glinting with excitement. "Nice one," he muttered before lunging forward again.

Their blades met once more, the sound reverberating through the air. Arthur responded with a quick series of thrusts, each one precise and aimed to force Lucas onto the defensive. But Lucas met him strike for strike, his katana moving in swift arcs that deflected Arthur's attacks with calculated precision.

As the battle wore on, it became clear that neither fighter had the upper hand. They were evenly matched in every sense, their movements a perfect counterbalance to each other.

Arthur swung his blade in a wide arc his swords after image. Glowing blue , aiming for Lucas's side, but Lucas pivoted gracefully, his katana coming up to block the strike.

Arthur smirked, his breath coming in quick bursts as he unleashed another flurry of attacks. Lucas countered each one with finesse, the glow of his katana casting an eerie light on the ground beneath them.

And then, with a quick movement, Lucas aimed a punch of his own at Arthur's face. It connected, sending Arthur reeling back slightly. He wiped the blood from his lip, his expression one of pure determination.

They circled each other, their breaths heavy, eyes locked in a silent challenge. The spectators could hardly believe what they were witnessing—two titans clashing in a display of raw power and skill. And yet, despite the intensity of the fight, neither Lucas nor Arthur seemed willing to back down.

With renewed vigor, they charged at each other once more, their blades meeting in a final, thunderous clash that sent shockwaves through the ground.

As their smiles grew wider with each passing strike, the fight took on an almost primal intensity. There was no hesitation, no holding back—just the raw thrill of combat. Every time their blades met, sparks turned into small waves of flame that rippled outward, a testament to the power and ferocity they were pouring into every clash.

Their eyes gleamed with a wild, almost animalistic glow, the joy of the battle fueling them. Arthur's grin mirrored Lucas's, both of them feeding off the other's energy. The flames danced around them, growing stronger with each strike, the heat of their battle radiating outward like a furnace.

The students watching from the sidelines were silent, their eyes wide with awe and disbelief. This wasn't just a fight—it was a spectacle, a demonstration of skill and power that surpassed anything they'd ever seen.

As Lucas brought his katana down in a powerful overhead strike, Arthur met it with his own blade, the force of their collision sending out a shockwave that flattened the grass around them. The flames roared to life, no longer mere flickers but waves of fire that surged outwards, momentarily blinding the onlookers.

And then, just as they were about to strike again, both fighters froze. Their blades were mere inches from each other, but something in the air had shifted. It wasn't hesitation, nor was it fear—it was a mutual understanding, a recognition of the other's strength.

For a brief moment, they stood still, their weapons poised to strike, their eyes locked. And then, slowly, their smiles softened, the wildness in their gazes dimming just slightly.

They both knew that this fight, as exhilarating as it was, didn't need to end in one of them being defeated. They had both proven themselves, not just to each other, but to everyone watching.

Lucas let out a breath, his katana still glowing with residual mana, and Arthur did the same, his blue blade shimmering as the flames began to die down around them. The tension in the air slowly dissipated, leaving only the lingering heat of their battle.

They lowered their weapons, the fight having run its course. But the thrill of it still lingered in their eyes.
