Chapter 46 - Chapter 46

A sharp knock echoed through the room, pulling me from my thoughts. I adjusted the shawl draped over my shoulders, the Student Council emblem stitched in gold catching the light. It was a crisp design that stood out against the blue uniform, draping elegantly just above my elbows. The whole ensemble was meant to signify our status, but to me, it just felt like another layer of formality.

Jamie went to open the door, and in walked Arthur, clad in his Disciplinary Committee uniform. Without bothering to turn away from the mirror, I heard him speak. "Yo, finally awake? Handsome," Arthur greeted, his tone easy and familiar as he surveyed the room.

I nodded, still fussing with my hair. "Come on, Handsome, stop being such a heartbreaker," Arthur teased with a chuckle.

I smirked at his words, finally turning to face him. "Look who's talking," I shot back.

He chuckled again, the banter between us flowing naturally, like we'd known each other for years.

"Jamie, wanna come with us?" I asked, glancing at him as he yawned and stretched.

"Nah, I wanna sleep if you let me," he replied, shaking his head and sinking back into his bed.

"Okay," I said, leaving him to his rest as Arthur and I exited the room.

We started walking toward the classroom where Arthur was supposed to teach. As we made our way down the hallway, I could feel the weight of countless gazes on us. It wasn't surprising, though. It wasn't every day that you saw a Student Council member and a Disciplinary Committee officer walking side by side.

The looks we received varied—some were envious, others filled with curiosity, and a few even hinted at jealousy. I couldn't blame them. Arthur and I together probably made quite the sight, and it wasn't just our uniforms that set us apart.

"So, Mr. Professor, got anything prepared, or just a blank mind?" I asked, walking leisurely alongside Arthur.

"Yeah, I've got a little baseline. Still, three days wasn't a lot of time," Art replied, his gaze drifting to the left. He suddenly got flustered as he noticed Tessia waving at us. As she started approaching, Arthur sped up, ignoring her.

I quickened my pace to keep up. "Something happen between you guys?" I asked, sensing something was off.

"Nothing. I just don't want to be late," Arthur said, his steps quickening even more.

"Let me guess—she wanted to move forward in your relationship?" I suggested with a wide grin. I noticed his silence, which was telling. He didn't reply, but the topic clearly struck a chord.

What could I say to him when my own ship was barely staying afloat? I sighed as we finally reached the classroom. Practical Mana Manipulation—that was the class.

"What relationship? We don't have one," Arthur finally replied as we reached the classroom.

I shot him a weird look. "Bro, I asked you that like three minutes ago, and you're just now replying?"

He shrugged it off, then turned to me. "Anyway, forget about it. Why are you here? You gonna attend the class?"

"Nah," I said casually, a grin forming on my face. "I've decided I'll finally attend the Student Council meeting today."

Arthur raised an eyebrow at that, probably not expecting my response.

Arthur nodding, entering the classroom with full confidence. I watched him go, silently wishing him luck; dealing with the noble children's attitudes wasn't an easy task. As I turned to leave, I noticed Princess Kathlyn watching us. The moment our eyes met, she quickly changed direction and entered the classroom through another door. Weird.

Shrugging it off, I refocused on my own agenda. Time to check out the Student Council. I'd heard rumors that they overwork their new members, but I wasn't too worried. I shifted my path toward the upper level. What room was it again? Ah, right—near 214.

With that, I made my way upstairs, curious about what awaited me at the Student Council meeting.

Standing before the towering door of the Student Council room, I couldn't help but smirk. Did they have a few screws loose? This door looked like it was made for titans. Shaking my head in amusement, I pushed it open, stepping into a pristine atmosphere that contrasted starkly with the door's imposing nature. The walls and floor were immaculate, reflecting a sense of order and authority.

At the center of the room, a large round table caught my attention. Seated around it were seven figures, all of whom turned their eyes toward me the moment I entered. It seemed like I was the eighth member. Nice.

Each gaze was different—some curious, others indifferent—but they all shared a common thread: a hint of scrutiny. One particular set of eyes burned with a certain fire. I raised my hand and grinned, breaking the silence with a casual, "Hello everyone!" Tessia, seated in the center on a chair far more elaborate than the others, facepalmed in response. The chair beside hers, also more stylish, was occupied by none other than Victor.

Across from Tessia, at the other end of the table, an empty seat awaited. I figured it was meant for me, so I made my way over and sat down. The others continued to scrutinize my every move, making it clear I was being closely evaluated.

As I scanned the table, I took in the faces of my new colleagues. Tessia, of course, was at the center. To her right was Victor, his usual confident demeanor in place. To her left sat a pink-haired girl who was grinning at me in a way that could only be described as... weird. A quick survey of the room made me realize something odd—why was there a majority of girls here?

Finally, I noticed the person sitting beside me—a boy who looked a bit too much like a girl for comfort. Long, fluffy hair and delicate features made it hard to tell. I leaned in a bit and asked bluntly, "Yo, you a boy or a girl?"

He turned to me, his expression calm as he replied, "I'm Alex, and yes, I'm a boy."

I stared at him for a second longer. Sure, he had some boyish traits if you squinted, but still... Come on, Lucas, have an open mind.

Shrugging, I leaned back in my chair, wondering what the Student Council had in store for me.

Tessia's gaze swept over everyone seated at the table before settling on me. "This is Lucas Wykes, the new Student Council member who *should* have been here two days ago," she said, her tone carrying a hint of reprimand. "But I guess I'll let it slide for now."

I offered a sheepish smile in response, but before I could say anything, she continued, "And now for the introductions. I'm Tessia Eralith, the president of this council and also your supervisor."

Her introduction was followed by Victor's, his voice calm and composed. "Victor Frederick, Vice President." He didn't offer much beyond that, his expression as neutral as ever.

Then came the pink-haired girl, the one who had been grinning at me since I walked in. "Clara Kingston. Nice to meet you," she said, her grin widening. There was something mischievous about her demeanor, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

I mentally noted that I've encountered more unusual creatures in my time, so let's just chalk her up to that. Beside Clara sat two girls who looked like twins, and it was only then that I noticed another one sitting beside me. Both had pointed, elven ears, unmistakably marking them as elves. One had snow-white hair while the other had jet-black hair. The white-haired one spoke first, their faces similarly round and youthful. "Elise Aquaciem, and this is my sister, Alise Aquaciem," she said, gesturing toward her sister. *Aquaciem?* I thought to myself, *What does that even mean? Nevermind, thank God it isn't Aquarium.*

Then a voice came from beside Alex, drawing my attention to a girl with golden hair, pristine red eyes, and a chubby face framed by square glasses. She looked almost like an innocent child. "And I'm Eneka Watsen," she said, smiling as our eyes met. "I hope we make amazing memories together, Mr. Wykes." Her smile was wide, almost unnervingly so. She seemed a bit more normal than the others, but honestly, the only one I could consider truly normal here was Tessia. No one else.

I nodded at Eneka, though she continued to smile. Tessia's voice cut through the room, sharp and authoritative. "Now that the introductions are wrapped up, let's talk business..."
