Looking out of the window to his left, he saw black and not much else until he looked closer.
The view of space was truly a sight to behold for the first time as it was a foreign environment for Null.
It was like being on a submarine, there was no sea of stars that he could see anymore, just the lone giant in the distance.
Nulled crawled his way to the control room and let himself in while Theef sat in the pilot's seat without a thought in mind.
He simply lay his head on the control desk and enjoyed the view.
"How long have we been at it partner," Null gathered Theef's attention with a question.
"We'll be there soon enough. You slept through most of the trip hehe," he muttered lazily.
"And where exactly is our destination? Do you have some kind of map that you could lend me?"
"That would be a negative," he stretched his back while sitting up and continued, "The only maps I collect point their way to forgotten or guarded relics. The ship is able to save the few important places I go to visit in its navigation system."
"As far as the place we're headed though, you can think of it as a market planet. The resident populace on planet Barter is comprised of merchants and marketers."
"They also happen to provide a reputable storage service that I subscribe to. We're heading for my loot den and some grub this time. And if we luck out, maybe they'll have some goodies up for auction."
Theef had missed the freedom of gliding through space. But he stayed true to himself as he immediately sought out some treasures to ogle.
"I thought you didn't pay for things. Or did you happened to lose your supreme thief mindset in the time we spent together?"
Null's attempt to get a reaction out of Theef worked as he burst into laughter.
"Thanks to you, my desire has grown and with it, my powers. I need more treasures to absorb, my new self craves it more than ever."
"What do you mean your powers have grown? I didn't know you had powers?"
"That's because I didn't. When you willed that foreign energy into me, I could feel it searching deep within me, feeding on my deepest desires as it provided me an ability."
Theef got up and walked towards an empty corner of the room. He fingered around with the floor for a bit and opened up a secret hatch.
Inside was a glass vial was a peculiar sprout sealed inside.
"This is the last of my on-hand treasures, a genuine divining beansprout," he said as he shattered the vial.
The tiny plant emitted a soft light upon being freed.
"The desk with these guys lies in their ability to sense valuable items from frightening distances and emit a light based on the properties of said items."
"White for common goods, bronze for basic treasures, gold for the good stuff, purple for the really good stuff, and you get a pretty little light show for the goodies that'll turn close friends against each other."
"Woah! That sounds like the perfect tool for a guy like you, so why the long face," Null asked.
"The problem is that this one here is too juvenile to detect items beyond gold and has a pitiful range. Their growth period spans up to at least a century old before they can detect purple grade things. The only way to speed up the process is to provide it with treasures for it to break down and consume."
"I know I shouldn't even bother asking, but did you ever consider even once to giv-." Null tried to hold back, but Theef interrupted with his usual stubborn ranting.
"How long do you plan on besmirching my name null one. If I squandered every treasure I had on this useless thing here...," he gripped the sprout in his palm, "... there'd be no point in taking the treasure at all. I take for you and me only."
His eyes began spinning once more and he began grinning like an idiot.
"We'll take the treasure just like this," he tossed the divinity sprout into his mouth, his corrosive saliva proving its worth and swallowed.
"And then with this little light of mine," he spoke like he was on a drug, saliva still gushing out of his mouth, "I'll find the treasure all on my own."
He raised his hand towards Null who was experiencing the new Theef in action, a lone sprout grew from his palm and released a bright white glow.
"The power to steal the powers of foreign material is the gift you bestowed unto me and for that, I would steal for you anything throughout the endless worlds of this big old bag of goodies we call the universe."
"You done yet man, I'm getting hungry." Null smiled as ye was used to this by now.
He found Theef's personality to be charming despite his broken record of never-ending theft.
"No more food. Can't you just eat the air like you always do?"
"First of all, I don't 'eat the air', I can take in spiritual energy just by breathing. And while that does sustain my vitals for a while, it doesn't do shit about the empty feeling in my stomach."
"Just can it and eat the air! I already told you we'd be there soon, just look," he pointed outside to a planet in the distance.
There were lights everywhere around it that Null was told by Theef to be other ships! He was anxious to see a world outside of his own just waiting for him to explore.
It was finally time for them to be on their way on the journey of a lifetime.
