Chapter 9 - Being Adriana Hawkins.

Once class was done, Vanessa kept her books in her bag and just as she was about exiting the hall, a boy appeared in front of her to have her momentarily step back as she was taken by surprise.

"You startled me," Vanessa said, giving off a sheepish smile. She had noticed Adriana had quite a number of admirers as there was no day she wasn't approached either by a junior or senior she even noticed some teachers hitting on her which had given her the itch.

The boy looked quite taken aback that Adriana had actually replied to him, in the past she had always cursed at him telling him to leave her alone but he had never listened. Maybe she was finally noticing that he was serious about her. "My apologies. I was wondering what you do after school" the boy asked in all politeness and Vanessa who was usually shy and wasn't used to getting attention from boys was quite flushed at his words that did not even mean anything.

The boy took notice of this which suddenly sparked up something in him. For the Adriana Hawkins he knew to be acting like this might mean she might have fallen for him? The boy was in doubt as he had a doubtful look on his face. He really hoped this wasn't a trap and Adriana wasn't trying to publicly disgrace him as that was the only possible reason he could think of why she had actually stopped and taken her time to reply to him.

Vanessa clutched unto the bag that hung on her arm while trying to look for a reply for the boy. If she said she wasn't busy then she knew the boy might probably ask her out but she didn't want to come off as an easy-to-get girl.

"I'll be busy with assignments for the whole of today. I think geometry is really stressful" Vanessa said, giving the boy a polite smile so as not to come off as rude. She didn't know what kind of reputation Adriana had left off but she noticed the way everyone seemed to worship at her feet and she didn't want to ruin that. She was enjoying the warmth and care of people too much to break off the charm she had somehow casted on them.

She noticed the boy's sour face after her reply but she was still deadpanned. Not to lie, the guy was more handsome than what she could have pulled off if she was the old her in her old body but now, she was Adriana Hawkins. So far, she had managed to make Adriana's mum believe nothing was off with her but she did not know how that would continue to last as there were times the woman would suddenly throw strange and unfamiliar questions to her and she would have to rack her brain to think of one that wouldn't make the woman suspicious.

"Oh that's a bummer I was wondering if I could take you out to dinner" the boy said looking disappointed. "Maybe another time?" Vanessa said, still offering him the best smile and she saw the boy's already faltered smile suddenly curl up again into a bright one.

"Really? That would be lovely" the boy said, his smile growing wider like a baby who was handed a lollipop to. "See you around then" Vanessa said, taking the cue to leave and while climbing down the stairs, she noticed the guy who had saved her the other day climbing up the stairs and her lips formed into a bright smile upon seeing him forgetting how he had discarded her words so effortlessly that day.

She stepped in front of him stopping him from moving further and she saw him raise his head up in an unmotivated way, while giving her a blank expression to which Vanessa didn't mind.

"Thank you for the other day" Vanessa said, her words slow but made sure it reached the ears of the person it was meant for. "Aren't you fond of thanking people too much? Move," came his reply and all she could do was give off an awkward laugh as if he had meant it as a joke but Chris had better things to do than crack jokes with her.

"Your words often come off as rude" Vanessa confessed and she saw the side of his lips pull up as if amused by something. "You are right. So do yourself the favour and never cross paths with me again" Chris said, already getting bored and pissed off at the disturbance.

His voice was cold as ice which only made Vanessa wonder if she had pharphaps offended him. But he was the one who had saved her yesterday from the crazy girl and she didn't remember any events that had happened after she had thanked him only to get told to her face to go and take a nap.

Vanessa didn't need to be told twice to step away from him and she watched him leave, not bothering to give her a second look. Looks like this was the only person who seemed not to be swayed by Adriana's beauty.

Letting out a soft sigh, she continued walking.

Meanwhile, Adriana still stood outside waiting for Chris to come out as she was already losing her temper. She couldn't believe she was made to stand outside and watch guard of his motorcycle.

That darned guy!!

The nerve he had to make her stand here under the scorching sun. Her feets were already aching and she was already getting tired as she did not even find a place to sit. Was this what Mrs Taylor meant when she told her she won't be made to do much work?

Already getting tired, she decided to sit at the edge of the motorbike but before she could even think of walking to the side of where the bike was, she saw Chris come out of the school gate.

His steps were slow and steady as he walked his way towards her. "What were you thinking, leaving me out here?" Adriana yelled at him with an irritated tone. Chris did not bother taking a glance at her as he walked past her going to climb on his motorbike.

This Action only made her temper worse as she went to meet him. "Answer me," Adriana demanded and by now, her voice was loud enough for everyone around them to hear, making them turn their heads in their direction.

She saw him tilt his head to the side looking at her, his blue eyes now visible to her to which she hadn't noticed before. "And if I don't?" came the challenging tone of Chris to have the girl scoff at his words.

"You are out of your mind" commented Adriana with a disbelieving tone. "Agreed" Chris said nonchalantly while wearing his helmet leaving the girl to stare at him with a baffled expression.

This…this guy was crazy!! Thought Adriana in her head and before she could think of another reply to what he had just said, Adriana saw him start his motorbike and she didn't need any soothsayer to tell her to get on it as fast as she could. There was no telling what the jerk headed boy could do.

She held onto the motorbike tightly as he rode off leaving her to wonder where they were going. She was already starting to get tired of this assistant thing. It would be better if she quit, Adriana thought but then, she remembered she had used half of the advance payment the woman had given her and this enough made her frown.

She really did not want to work anymore, not after what had happened today but it seemed like she had no other option. If she didn't take the job at the time the woman was offering it to her, she was sure she would have died of hunger by now. But the only person to blame for all these was the useless girl who had the audacity of swapping bodies with her.

There were still questions she had to ask of how it was even possible but right now she didn't care. It was only after she got back inside her body would she have the time to face and question her.

The crazy maniac was riding like someone who was tired of life and was hoping for a peaceful heaven but she didn't want to die yet! She could only pray inwardly for them not to fall until they got to their destination where they both came down.

Her eyes looked around the place to have her lips pursed into a thin line. Did he bring her here to come and have s** with his girlfriend? Adriana questioned in her head while looking at the motel as she watched him slip the key into his pockets.

"What are we doing here?" Adriana asked with an obvious frown on her forehead. "What does it look like? What better way is there to get to know your assistant better if not at the motel?" He said with a smile on his face and Adriana had to shoot her eyes at him.

"Your jokes are not funny" Adriana said not finding him bringing her to a motel funny.

"I never cracked jokes"
