Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 Sam_1

Brittany nodded. "Mother, have you forgotten? My father is a doctor. I learned from him when I was young."

These words were just to bluff Mrs. Long.

Her current father was a doctor, so she had learned words and some general knowledge about medicine from him.

It was just that this bit of general knowledge was far from enough to treat the illness and save people.

Her medical skills came from her previous life. She was born into a medical family that had been passed down for hundreds of years.

Mrs. Long didn't suspect anything and nodded. "Then get some medicine to treat your neck and throat."

She paused for a moment. "If you have to buy some medicine, I still have some copper coins here."

Brittany was surprised. This family was not rich. She remembered that a few days ago she had heard Mrs. Long muttering that she had borrowed ten ounces of silver coins from the neighboring family for her son, Sam Rivers, to go to the prefecture capital to participate in Fall Quarter Examinations.

Her eyes flashed. "Thank you, Mother. There's no need to get the medicine. I'll go to the back of the mountain to pick some herbs myself tomorrow."

Mrs. Long didn't say anything else. She picked up the kitchen knife and continued to cut the vegetables. Brittany helped out.

After stir-frying some potato and making cucumber salad, lunch was ready.

During the meal, the three branches, more than ten people, sat at two tables in the central room. The men sat at one table and the women sat at the other table.

"Where's David and Woods?" asked Madam Cook, the wife of Old Mr. Rivers. "Why aren't they here for lunch?"

Mrs. Long did not say anything, and Brittany lowered her head as if she did not hear anything.

The second son of the Rivers family, Steve Rivers, glanced at Brittany from the corner of his eyes. "David's arm was broken by Dave's wife. They went to town to look for Doctor Elvin."

Dave, the eldest grandson of the Rivers family, was dead, and now David was the eldest grandson. The weight of the eldest grandson was still very heavy in Madam Cook's heart.

When Madam Cook heard that her eldest grandson was injured, her heart ached terribly. She suddenly turned to look at Brittany. "Jinx, it's not enough for you to jinx my eldest grandson. Now you're harming my second grandson."

Mrs. Long frowned. "Mother, this isn't Brittany's fault. It was David Rivers, that bastard, who molested Brittany. That's why Brittany..."

Madam Cook used her spoon to knock the bowl loudly. "Shameless little whore, it must be you who seduced David!"

"The jinx!"

Brittany only treated Madam Cook as a mad dog that was barking wildly. She turned a deaf ear and lowered her head to eat her meal.

At this moment, Old Mr. Rivers, who was sitting at the head of the table, suddenly looked out the door. "Shut up. A chaise is coming.""

He looked at Steve Rivers. "Go and see who's here."

Steve Rivers put down his knife and fork and stood up. He saw the chaise stop in the courtyard. The curtain was lifted, revealing a handsome young man.

Steve Rivers shouted happily, "Sam is back!"

Everyone at the table immediately put down their knives and forks and ran out.

Only Old Mr. Rivers and Madam Cook did not go out to welcome him for their status. However, even Madam Cook stood up and looked out anxiously.

Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, Brittany took the opportunity to put some food into her bowl.

Usually, when she picked up a little food, Madam Cook and Mrs. Woods would hit the back of her hand with their forks.

At this moment, she heard Old Mr. Rivers ask Madam Cook, "Darling, what is the date today?"

Madam Cook thought for a moment. "It's the twelfth today."

Old Mr. Rivers's expression changed drastically. "Twelfth?"

"Isn't the twelfth round the second round of the Fall Quarter Examinations?"

Brittany listened to their conversation as she ate quickly.

Sam Rivers, the third grandson of the Rivers family, had passed the Elementary Scholar Examination last year and had gone to the prefecture capital to take the Fall Quarter Examinations a few days ago. The whole family had been eagerly waiting for him to pass the examinations so that they could live a better life.

However, at this moment, the person who should be taking the exam in the prefecture capital had returned home. The atmosphere in this house might not be too good later. She had to quickly eat her fill and leave.

As they were eating, Sam Rivers entered, surrounded by a crowd.
