Since Jaylene arrived in Utah unexpectedly, she hadn't prepared in advance. After checking in at the hotel, she began to feel a little dizzy. However, she dismissed it as a side effect of the climate and paid no attention to it.
At first, she felt groggy, but later in the night, she couldn't sleep. In the morning, she woke up with a headache. Joseph Thompson asked her whether she'd like to visit the Potala Palace or Nyingtri first, but she shook her head and said she didn't want to go anywhere because of the headache.
Only then did Joseph notice that she didn't look well and asked her why she hadn't said anything sooner.
"I thought sleeping for a while would help," she replied honestly.
"Here, take this medicine," Joseph Thompson took a bottle of medicine from his luggage and handed it to her: "You're experiencing altitude sickness. If you had told me last night, and you took the medicine, maybe you'd be fine by now."
