Chereads / Sea Demons Paradise / Chapter 9 - Like A Boss

Chapter 9 - Like A Boss

Once her mana had regenerated Mary went back to the first room and started changing the decorations. Rather than being made of gold and silver she started changing it all to iron with a coating of the precious metals. Leaving just a few of the smallest trinkets in the room in their original composition.

She repeated this through the next nine rooms leaving slightly more solid gold or silver decorations each time. Once she finished the tenth room she upped the amount left until she got to the last room just before the library leaving almost everything as it was but also placing a hidden safe in the wall that upon clearing would pop open and inside she left a small sack of gold Mild with a single diamond Mild inside as well. She returned to the tenth room and within a desk sitting in the corner she left a black iron and emerald embossed key that would unlock the doors to the library.

Taking breaks between each one for her mana to regenerate In each room she place several servants, roughly 3-5 in the first few usually one wearing the standard servant uniform that those in the lobby wore while the others would wear clothes and jewelry like this someone on vacation. Floral and brightly colored clothes, sun hats, swim clothes etc. Mary tried to make the outfits as varied as possible while also making sure their apparent wealth matched the room they were in.

As she got to the later half of the rooms she started to add in more servants making the apparent guests seem more important and in possession of greater wealth. Mary considered adding in some traps but eventually decided against it as there wasn't enough room for them without also risking dragging in the the servants as well.

After she finished she found herself once more inside of the library. Pulling up the minion specs she concentrated on summoning a variant of the servants specifically for the library. Mary felt a rush of mana roughly 50% greater than the usual cost of the servants as Two male servants appeared in front of her. They were different then the usual servants, while still inhumanly perfect looking they were a touch bulkier and rather than immaculate servant dressing they were dressed simpler. Dressed in light brown pants and white dress shirts that had the sleeves rolled up to the elbows they also had what appeared to be faint splotches of dust and ink in places. On their waists they had leather holders with several quills and two bottles of ink, one black like a moonless night and the other iridescent like a rainbow.

Mary was quite happy with the variants that appeared as one thing she had worried about was that despite their abilities the servants were in the end still jack's of all trades. They would give newer adventurers a hard time but even weaker veterans wouldn't have much issue dealing with them. Seeing that the variants would shift to take more specified roles made her please as it would make her future plans much more viable.

As she was thinking to herself Mary belatedly noticed that unlike the standard servants the scribes were moving around on their own cleaning and rearranging the shelves in seemingly random orders. Mary blinked in surprise before realizing it must be the Elders Knowledge at play since it said it boosted wisdom and intelligence. Mary played around with them for a bit before realising that it only boosted their minds enough to allow them to carry out basic orders and some very limited problem solving outside of battle at least.

Her mana eventually recharged Mary floated over to in front of the desk where she began trying to create an Elite to man the library. With a rush of mana once more mary estimated around 200 mana was used, 4 times the cost of the basic servants.

Scattered pages, ink and shadows gathered forth before Mary as soon a small frail girl appeared in front of her. The woman looked only a year of two older then Mary but by her proud physique was clearly a female. She had pale flawless skin like fresh fallen snow with matching hair, purple eyes like amethyst that shone with a glint of madness. She wore a dark blue sundress with a purple shawl around her shoulders. Her frame was on the thinner side with skinny arms and emaciated legs hidden under her dress as Mary belatedly noticed she was wheelchair bound. Her ink and quills sitting atop a small writing desk on the left armrest. Unlike the scribes she had three bottles of ink, the third far more ornate than the other two with a swirling purple liquid that shone like gems. On her lap was a simple book bound in a black leather Mary didn't recognize with a golden lock on the front holding it shut.

Faux Living Ink: The ink Silent Scribes carry at their waists is no ordinary ink but rather made from their own blood and several other ingredients. Prized as one of the most valuable magical inks known they can greatly aid in the creation of grimoires and spell scrolls. The ink of the Custodian of Whispers is especially precious as it is said to possess the ability to even record divine or forbidden level spells, those which would physically harm a mortal just from reading. When used by the Custodian aside from the basic ink's abilities being much more powerful the Custodian can also use their purple ink to summon forth faux creatures of shadow, paper and ink to attack her foes.

Darkest Records: As a final resort the Custodian will read a passage from the forbidden archives to drive her foes insane and deal large quantities of soul damage. Should a foe perish while other survive there is a chance for an Old one to raise their body temporarily and set it on their former comrades.

Needless to say Mary was quite impressed with everything that she had gotten done as she was almost ready to open for Adventurers to enter the dungeon. She was especially happy with the Custodian as it would serve as a proper challenge to adventurers before they took on her first boss. Speaking of her first boss all she had left to do was to create her first boss and she would be ready. Just as she was getting ready to put the final touches on the library though, something surprising happened.
