Chapter 10 - Setting The Foundation (1)

Just as Mary was about to return to the lobby and talk with Neira about what would come after making her first boss and finishing her first floor her mind wandered to something that was becoming a growing worry of hers. Mary had somewhat of an idea but she would be greatly limited going forward if she was unable to gain anima from adventurers. Neira had already said the Gods would only cover than anima cost for the first few ranks and she would be on her own after that. Mary wasn't sure how she would attract adventurers as she had already been here for a while and had yet to see even the slightest sign of civilization, something that was somewhat starting to worry her as she closed in on finishing the first milestone of her dungeon.

The worry was steadily coming to the forefront of her mind as as her todo list for the moment grew shorter and shorter with each item she completed. While she was sure there was some kind of contingency for dungeons in out of the way places like her, she had no idea what it could be at the moment. As her sphere of view idly floated to the ornate door way a sound from behind her startled her from her contemplations.

Turning her view around she saw the Custodian had wheeled herself from behind her desk and was bowing in her direction. Mary shivered for a moment before the Custodian returned behind the desk and seemed to take on a more pre-decided routine similar to the other servants in the room. Deeply bothered by the sudden display of autonomy Mary quickly flew down to the lobby where she saw Neira flitting about and examining things. Mary briefly considered speaking to Neira about the Custodian but decided against it since as the core nothing belonging to the dungeon should be able to hurt her.

"Man, it was suuuuuuper spooky when the Custodian suddenly bowed to you like that wasn't it. I know I briefly mentioned that boss monsters were technically being with souls like you and I, but I guess I forgot to mention that Elites still have their own varying levels of sentience." Neira seeming to read her mind however also reminded Mary that she was about to see through Mary's point of view as long as Mary allowed her. Something Mary had left available by default since the Dungeon would eventually grow to large to have Neira flit from area to area any time she wanted to show her something.

"Neira, Is there anything I need to keep in mind for the creating the boss? This is probably the only one I'll be able to make before I have Adventurers run through the dungeon so I want to make sure this goes well." Since it was her first boss and would essentially become the face of her dungeon for a while Mary found it imperative that it turn out well as a poor boss could lead to far to many wipes that even the most greedy adventurers would come and one that was too easy would lead to Mary being unable to keep up with the costs of her Dungeon.

"Its no too much different, the main thing would be that you can attempt to assign roles and personalities to the boss. I say attempt because if they class to much with the base minion type and the dungeon template its being assigned to that your assignments will be overwritten. I wouldn't worry to much about that though, your Elder Servants seem rather flexible I just wouldn't attempt to try and make them a nun or something like that." Neira giggled darkly at some unknown knowledge that Mary had no idea about.

"Oh, and just a reminded, but regardless of how much mana you have your boss will take your whole amount. Honestly I don't know why since with certain improvements you can get some huge amounts of mana stored up at higher levels."

Mary decided not to question what seemed like it could be an important tidbit as she waited for her mana to regenerate while she though about what kind of Boss she wanted. After a while once her mana was full she took a deep breath and started creating her first Boss.
