Brenda swiftly began to regulate her erratic thoughts. She calmed her breathing and dropped back another step before replying, "He is unworthy, considering you already defeated him."
Her words left Bas speechless. Which one was Craig?
"Why don't you challenge Rank 30?"
Most of the crowd did not notice the ambiguous behavior of the two in the battle cage. The blue-haired Craig Mack, approaching the cell already, heard Miss Evans' words and was stricken hard.
Was he really that weak?
He had been telling himself the previous defeat was a fluke. He had been too nervous. But Miss Evans even labeled him as unworthy.
Craig turned and left feeling dejected.
Meanwhile, Bas was unconcerned with what happened outside the battle cage. He considered for a second before taking her suggestion, "Rank 30? Sounds good."
The hunter at Rank 30 was an assassin woman named Rivonia Charter. She knew an incomplete bronze class arte, but it had only been trained to the middle wood class. It was incomplete and barely as powerful as a standard wood class arte. Bas made short work of her in a dominating fashion.
Surprisingly, she gave him her number afterward. She even asked him to call for a night out. Bas was dumbfounded by this but accepted the number politely.
He honestly couldn't believe how today was playing out on a personal level. Was love so loosely given in the world 300 years later? Back then, women were more bashful and careful with their advances. Bas had thought that the queens and goddesses from his previous life were challenging to win the favor of, unlike these mortal women and sewer hunters.
They were throwing it at him without saying so!
Of course, the difference in lifespans likely played a significant role in this, right? Bas couldn't be bothered to figure it out.
The Underground Battle League hunter ranked 21st at the Ninth Level Hunt Foundation, but none of his attacks could even dirty Bas' clothes. In less than two minutes after the start of the match, Bas was victorious again, pushing his winning streak up to six. The crowd had grown uncontrollable as, since the beginning, it looked like Bas' opponents were getting weaker and not stronger.
Bas is now qualified for more rewards!
"Rewards! Ah, stupid me. I forgot about the rewards! That Miss Evans chick indeed tricked me!" Bas facepalmed his head.
He had let Brenda seduce and talk him out of receiving good fortune. He didn't need to skip several ranks again, which didn't benefit him! Of course, it was mostly his negligence. Bas still needed to upgrade his bronze token to a silver token, so he had been one-track-minded.
With the silver token, Bas could easily hide his strength in the mortal society. Bas' number one concern in coming here was finding a suitable opponent. Thus, he was tearing through the competition, hoping to get to the decent warriors sooner rather than later. However, he was missing out on many rewards as a result! In truth, Bas initially disdained these rewards as they were from sewer hunters of Mortalee.
That was before he heard about the unique features of the silver-grade token. However, once he considered that he was poor and without resources, he completely regretted his arrogance. He could pretend to be arrogant, but he was the definition of a pauper in this life! Even if he disdained these items, would other mortals also disdain them? He could've made a fortune and quit his mortal job...
"How foolish of me..." Bas lamented in his heart. It seemed his days of hard work were far from over.
With only the 1,500 silver credits and the three gold credits he received earlier, Bas was making more than he made at both jobs for 13 months' worth of work. He even had credit cards now, no longer using his mother's storage devices for everything.
At least not his money.
These cards were linked to a particular account within a company called Fortune Bank, which Bas could only hope was credible enough. His account name was registered as Bazzy Dagod, though. Sebastian King wouldn't necessarily be able to access these accounts.
This was a point to which Bas should pay more attention. It could ruin his disguise if mishandled. Then again, would Bas need to hide if he had more strength and resources?
Who knew that fighting in the Underground Battle League would prove to be so lucrative? Bas just thought he could find a decent opponent. Upon thinking about it, Bas would definitely quit those jobs once he returned.
He would also say goodbyes at school once his suspension was up. Bas no longer had a reason to go to a mortal school every day, not when a hunter society existed underground. He could receive gold for every match he had from now on!
This was a way to both train and make money. Once his winning streak increased, this would only grow more exaggerated. Endorsements and city sewer tournaments, oh my! The only condition was he couldn't be defeated!
Why exactly hadn't he fought step by step again?
Anyway, the curriculum of Bas' current school was comparable to a kindergarten in the real Hunter's Society.
Brenda watched Bazzy with curiosity. Of course, she tricked him into jumping ahead once again to challenge and fight. She was in charge of the family financials, so how could she be willing to watch this random genius walk away with all their credits?
No matter how amazing and cute he may be.
No one under the Top 10 was an opponent for Bazzy Dagod; Brenda could be certain of that. The bold little bastard had already pledged to reach the Top 10 today. Though no one took him seriously before, could he still back down now? She wanted to keep his momentum going, and they would save a ton of gold. Still, she wondered how far in the top ten he could go.
Actually, Bas never put any of these opponents in his eyes in the first place. Only the champion would be worthy, and possibly not even them.
Lucky for Bas, he had a backup plan.
