Chapter 27 - Rich, Rich

Marcus Bloom had promised to give Bas all of this week's rewards if the latter could defeat Marsha. This meant that whatever streaks Marcus managed to gain, and however much gold he won, it would all belong to Bas once the week ended in a couple of days! Poor Marcus, it wasn't until the end of the Bas' third match that he realized he had given away his lunch for cheap. Unfortunately, it was already too late to regret it.

As Bas stood imperiously on the stage, he reconsidered his strategy. He decided to destroy the Top 20 underground rankers one by one. This way, he would earn seven more wins before exiting the stage for the day. Bas said he would achieve Rank 5th today and intended to make good on that promise. A hunter's word was his bond.

Jumping a few ranks was unavoidable. Luckily, there was a difference between challenging and being challenged.

Next to him, Brenda granted him his earnings. She tapped his gold card with another reward.

Two more gold credits! Every win after the fourth would give him two gold credits; after his eighth win, it will jump to ten! Bas regretted that he hadn't made more enemies here so he could relax and accept challenges. Unfortunately, these cowards were already in awe.

Bas had earned this for himself through his strength, and Brenda knew that he would make a lot more. It was just that when she saw Bazzy this time, the naive look in his eyes was already completely gone. Brenda felt stunned. The current Bazzy seemed to be a veteran hunter, ready to slaughter the myriad war beasts.

Brenda frowned as she knew he was no longer riding off the high that being a celebrity fighter had brought. This little punk recovered far too quickly for her liking, which made her even more interested in him.

'He seems so mature...better than some of these losers. Maybe he'll make it to the fifth rank after all....' Brenda couldn't help but think this way, even though it was unprecedented.

Going from Rank 113 to Rank 5 in merely one day? This seemed preposterous to anyone who heard it.

After all, warriors who skipped ranks could only challenge in the cage for up to ten fights straight before having to vacate. After that, it would be someone else's turn to battle. The only way to return to the stage would be to challenge the new competitors or to be challenged. No one would believe it was possible to rise to the Top 5 from the outer ranks in ten matches.

Until today, that is.

"Okay, Bazzy Dagod...you currently have a six-win streak. You can challenge seven more times. Will you continue to challenge?"

Bas glanced at the beautiful woman and smirked mischievously. Brenda suddenly had a bad premonition. Her heart bled as she realized another undefeated hunter would rise today. And with his fame, so would increase his fortune. If he didn't have the strength or backup, then he would definitely be robbed by the hunters watching in secret.

However, that wasn't what Brenda feared the most.

If he challenged Rank 15, he could reach the Top 5. But would he do that? This brat would make it harder for her to reach her quota this week! She would have to get more guests and open more betting circles.

"Let's see," Bas pretended to be pondering hard on his decision, which was already made. Brenda looked hopeful before Bas' words hit her like cold water poured all over her, "I'll challenge for Rank 20!"

"You!" Brenda was speechless.

One rank? This was completely absurd! However, even after her shock, Brenda knew there was no point in stopping him. She knew better than to underestimate this little punk. As long as he broke into the Top 20 with the same momentum, he could easily enter the Top 10.

Plus, she still had her quota to reach. She immediately signaled the start of the next battle.

Bas didn't make it to Rank 20 yet, but he had already made it to Rank 21. He was still on an impressive winning streak! This was enough to make any mortal hunter gasp.

"And the winner is Rank 20: Bazzy Dagod!"

"Rank 16: Bazzy Dagod wins again!"

"This is the ninth victory and sixth challenge in a row for the now Rank 12: Bazzy Dagod!"

"Ten wins in a row, nonstop action! Give it up for Rank 10: Bazzy Dagod!"

"A startling show of dominance! Finally, a good opponent, but ultimately, the winner is Rank 8: Bazzy Dagod!"

Finally, after five hours of intense battles, Bas was down to his last fight. Actually, he had two more challenges. But he still decided to end it after the next match as he had already achieved the ten victories necessary to upgrade his token.

This was the priority.

'Rich, rich, rich. We're so paid,' Bas sang a song to himself in his head. He had banked 48 gold credits and 2500 silver credits. This was basically having another 25 gold credits to spare.

The crowd went crazy with cheers, as Bazzy Dagod's fan club was growing by the match. The previous hundred or so people in attendance had tripled at some point. Bas stood in the center of the ring with his arm being held in the air and a dull expression on his face. 'Mortals are still mortals, ah...'

Bas had yet to use his hunter skills. His soul power was still full to the brim, so his hunt rym expenditure was negligible. He was in top form. This was the extent of his strength compared to these Mortalee sewer hunters. The strongest skill he had encountered thus far was a Max Wood class skill, which greatly increased the previous eighth rank's speed.

However, this speed still paled in comparison to Bas. Now, after finally entering the top ten, it was time for Bas to challenge his way into the Top 5. He didn't intend to challenge the first or second rank tonight, and being number five wasn't that satisfying. So, Bas chose to challenge the third-ranked hunter and call it a night.

However, before Bas could make his challenge, a silhouette flipped over the cage and landed in the ring. He was a young man with long blonde hair and an angular face. He stood as straight as a sword with incredible bearing. Brenda Evans had just transferred Bas his ten gold credits for successfully completing the previous challenge. When she saw the young man who entered the stage with a cold look in his eyes, Brenda grew a bit worried.
