[~22nd May 2001~]

[~LAPD. Mid-Wilshire Station~]

Los Angeles.

The city of Angels.

Oh how wrong they are. This city is a cesspool for every fucking sin known to mankind.

Hollywood had its claws deep into people with aspiring dreams, most of the time turning them into tweakers, hobos or sex pets.

That's what naivety coupled with ambition does to the people of this city.

Not to mention the evasive distribution of drugs, arms and artifacts from black markets. Gangs had their territories strictly marked and gun violence was a daily occurrence.

I can't wait to start the day.

"-There would be absolutely no special treatment." Captain Nicole read through the pages while I slurped in the chocolate shake.

Her eyes shooting up for a moment before she continued.

"And during the shift, you will follow every command of the officers." She mentioned seriously with a frustrated gasp of air escaping her lips, she tried to hide her displeasement while I fidgeted around the now empty cup.

"Do you understand?"

I narrowed my eyes judgingly and threw the cup back in the air, her eyes followed them as they fell precisely on the dumpster close to the door.

"I know how things work, Captain." I replied sternly, an expression that may come out as weird from a 14 year old but I didn't bother.

My eyes roaming around the room before they gazed over the glass revealing the gallery of a busy day of Police personnel.

Everyone seemed way too busy, no one spending a moment more on a spot than necessary.

"I must report every detail I find to the Head of investigation, I must not touch anything I find at the crime scene, I shouldn't disturb or stop the officers from doing their duty." I listed out as a sigh escaped my lips at the end.

The captain let out a tired sigh as she closed the file and gave me a look of concern and worry.

"Robert, you would be exposed to direct visual trauma and that is not something we can help you with, do you really want to do this?" She asked.

I gave her a sad smile and slowly nodded.

Just as a silence began to settle, someone walked in, his footsteps were heavy but not shallow, middle aged, his erythemic controlled slow breaths only proved it further.

His legs hit the bin and he stumbled forward slightly and just before he was about to fall, he regained his balance.

"Can I help you?" Nichole asked, glancing towards the arrival.

"Officer John Nolan reporting for duty?" He replied unsure of himself, his eyes fidgeting back to the galley, the uniform in his hand fluttering as he did.

I smirked, turning around, I saw a white man, middle aged with slicked black hair and a check shirt, looking like a fish in a desert, very out of place.

"Did you get punked, Officer Nolan?" I asked with a chuckle. His eyes narrowed down on me and they showed a tinge of recognition.

"No, ma'am, I-." He tried to explain to Nichole but she immediately cut him.

"Robert, I will see you on roll call." She said calmly but the subtle meaning was 'Leave'.

I nodded and stood up with a thump in my step and began to walk out of the room.

"Nice to meet you, Officer Nolan." I chidded, walking past him.

The station was fairly equipped with all sorts of things and I found myself in front of a vending machine getting my second drink for the day.

The can of Voke rolled down.

I opened it with fizz and took a sip. An involuntary urge to throw up hit me like a nuke. I didn't budge, not even a twinge of expression escaped my face while I simply gulped it down.

'Too fucking sugary.'

Having super senses was not as fun as one might think, it has its uses but comes with its own cons.

Taking the drink with me, I slowly walked towards the room of the cops buzzing around on conversations with their own self made cliques.

Just as I walked in, all the talks slowly quieted down and all eyes landed on me. Without bothering, I walked towards the podium, took a seat at the end of the first row.

I was hoping to see if the protagonist's seat was free but it was already taken by some stupid son of a bitch.

It took about 5 minutes for the watch commander and captain to walk into the room just about the same time Officer Nolan came in from the other entrance.

"All right, all right, settle down." The watch commander said as he made his way to the podium.

The veteran officers were in the back, the TO's and P2 officers took the middle while the new batch of rookies were at the front and beside them on a separate was me. In a dashing black suit with slightly long hair, his eyes narrowed and halted on me as the pace of his steps slowed.

He looked at the captain hoping for an answer but she nudged him to go ahead with a nod.

He slowly climbed the podium, his eyes not leaving me just like most or all the people in this room.

I just took a sip from the can and gave him a smile with a cute little wave.

"So. Okay, uh. We got some new blood this morning and I don't mean the child." Everyone gave a slight chuckle at that while the rookies seemed indifferent, unknown on how to respond.

"And some pushing the expiration date." He mentioned specifically, squinting on the obvious officer Nolan.

Nolan slipped a smile towards his fellow rookies.

The commander walked in-between the rows and ordered. "Get up."

Nolan and the other two rookies stood up. Their uniforms had long sleeves with no batches, representing their status within the department.

"After six months together in the Academy, you've earned the right to be here but you'll have to prove to yourself to stay." He turned around and faced the others. "The way we do things matters, protocol and tradition are the metal from which every cop in this city is forged. Understand?"

"Yes, sir." They nodded in chorus.

"Sit down." He said and walked back to the podium. "It's time to play the training officer match game."

Once he reached the podium, a file turned open and he began reading it.

"Our first constant is Lucy Chen, a hotshot who made her first arrest before clocking in for work."

Lucy was an asian woman with long black hair with brown highlights tied into a bun, she had an hourglass body that fitted right into the uniform. I'm pretty sure the criminals of LA just got themselves a eye candy.

"Legacy Chloe Decker, who broke all previous records at the academy."

Make that, two eye candies.

"And John Nolan, who was born before disco died." A fit of chuckles broke once again.

He took a breath as the room dissolved into silence once again.

"And the winners are Officer Bradford, you get our hotshot. Officer Lopez, you get the legacy, leaving Officer Bishop to ride with the 40-year-old rookie." Grey revealed. "Now, hear me, today is your first day, don't let it be your last, forget the academy and listen to your TO's, they'll teach you the way it should be done."

He let a pause build up his words.

"Now, the captain has a few words about the kid in the room." He mentioned and stepped away as Nichole took the podium.

"Good morning to you all." She started. "I will keep it short since we all have a busy day ahead, as most of you know, our department had a contract with Vought for a show revolving around police, detectives and crime, Robert."

I stood up and walked towards the podium as she called. Most of the officers seemed to recognize me.

"This is Robert Vernon Aka Tek Knight and he would be on a ride along with whoever he chooses for the day."

Everybody lightly groaned at that, Commander Gray louder than all.

"Tek would explain the details regarding the tag along, so who's the lucky one, Tek?" All eyes shifted towards me and I gave them a sincere nod not that they seemed to take it seriously.

I raised my brows as I took a gulp and smiled at a familiar face.

"I choose Officer Nolan, he sounds fun."

Officer Bishop grumbled under her breath while Nolan gave a little smile, shooting a look of concern towards his TO.

"All right, you can leave." Captain ordered.

The officers all shuffled fast, many of them patting Bishop's back with a smile knowing her day is going to be twice as tiring.

Just as everyone dispersed Commander Gray stepped towards Nichole.

"Captain, can I have a word with you in private?" He asked, she gave him a nod in response and gestured for me to wait, while Gray shot me a displeased eye.

I peeked into their conversation with my hearing as Gray led her out of the room.

"You can't be serious here." He argued as they both stepped out. "My officers are taking calls to stop gun fights, gang thugs every day, they don't have the time to pamper a rich kid trying to have fun."

Nicole let out a sigh, it seems like she was expecting Gray to throw a tantrum.

"I wasn't planning on dumping him on you but he convinced some pretty high officials, our department is not getting any support from the public, they believe we need him and truth be told, I think he can handle himself."

"He is 14. He can get himself killed on patrol, get the officers killed or worse scarred for life and you let him in because what? He threw his coins at a few faces-." Grey seemed to have his mind fixed.

"She didn't let me, Commander Gray." I stepped in. "In fact, it was the opposite, I let her have me in this department."

Gray took a deep breath and spoke. "Look son, I didn't mean to offend you-."

"Oh you did." I cut his rant short once more. "Assuming everything about me, when you know absolutely nothing, I could have stayed in New York, the police are twice as busy and frankly it was close to home but I choose to be here."

"Do you want us to feel honored?" He scoffed.

"Yes, actually." I nodded. "LAPD is the second most untrusted department in public eyes, crime is all time high, gangs have absolute control over territories, crimes convicted against people of color are twelve times higher than white people, forty percent of your officers get complaints on them every year and twenty percent of them get convicted."

I let out a breath with a surprised smile etched over my face. "That is some record, that's exactly why you need what I bring to table."

"And that is?" He asked, raising his brows.

"Grace, truth and most importantly public support, with those things, at least you can try to salvage this place." I said and began retreating towards the parking lot to meet my partners for the day. "I didn't come here to be pampered, commander, I came here to make a change."

A change solely benefiting me.
