Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

When they returned to the dorms, Wyne got the 5 grimoires he was promised by Koxa. He read over each title and felt excited since neither of the Black Magic spells were listed in his textbooks.

Life-Drain Dome was a spell from the Necromancy category. It connected several creatures to one using tethers of necrotic energy. Those other creatures would be drained of some of their life force while the creature connected to them all would absorb it in order to heal their wounds and invigorate their life force.

'This is a low-tier spell? Maybe Prof. Hess isn't all wrong. Even if the amount drained is not a large amount for magical beasts or even humans, this spell is still dangerous. If one isn't careful, they could end up killing several or crippling several allies.'

Frost Breath was the second spell that he got and it was from the Ice category. This spell allowed one to unleash a blast of cold energy from their mouth and use it to freeze anyone foolish enough to get close. The most dangerous part about the spell was that it could be cast ahead of time and stored up to 3 times in a person's body, allowing them to easily catch enemies off guard.

'This spell also has plenty of advantages. If I can learn this, then even if I am in a situation where I am unable to cast more spells, I can use this like a bloodline ability. In fact, I could even pretend that this was one of mine to keep another as a trump card.'

Not only were the spells he got powerful, but they were also things that no other student in his school had unless they also found similar grimoires. Both spells were great for crowd control, one had healing benefits, and the other countered several elemental spells.

After reading both grimoires and inserting his mana into the books, he absorbed all of the contents of them. His mind was soon filled with how the spells worked and how to create the magic circles for them while the book was left blank.

This was the benefit and demerit of grimoires. The notes written in the book only contained the theory behind the spell. By injecting one's mana into it, the person would then be able to learn the magic circle needed to create the spells. This meant that these were consumable items and nearly impossible to share until the mage who learned the spell had a good enough understanding to create grimoires of his own around the spell.

'I got an amazing deal from Koxa but it looks like that will never happen again. At least from her. There might be a few other students with some interesting things that I could get,' Wyne was already thinking about how he could acquire more grimoires.

The 3 Bue Magic spells that he got were Wind Blade Room, Rain Dance, and Mist Sense.

Wind Blade Room was the basic Wind Blade spell upgraded to another level. It created several invisible wind blades around a person that would cut them apart if they ran into them, effectively trapping a person.

Rain Dance was a weak spell but it worked great with other Blue Magic spells. It caused several clouds above to be filled with water and drop rain on a nearly 50-meter radius. This was the perfect support spell to create water in an area that lacked a large amount or any so that they could use bigger spells and expend less mana.

The last spell was the best in Wyne's eyes though. Mist Sense was like Mana Sense except that one could use any neutral water or water that was imbued with their mana to sense the location and position of anything that touched it. Even creatures that were able to conceal their mana were seen because the spell worked based on physical touch. This was the perfect anti-invisibility spell.

Wyne read over the books a few times and knew that Koxa had given him something amazing. Even if they were for Wyne, just having knowledge of these spells gave him an advantage over other mages.

'Even when we went to the market, no other 1st year was trading grimoires no matter how desperate they were. These things must be extremely valuable outside of this place as well. Her family seems to be well-connected and powerful, even for a duke's household.'

Koxa's house was a mystery to him so he added that to the list of things he needed to investigate. If someone were to be his ally, he needed to have a good understanding of not only them but also their background.

Wyne spent a few hours going over the curse textbook and trying to replicate the 3 curses used on him earlier.

Wyne focused on how he felt while the curses were applied to them before starting to try and draw the cursed runes but no matter how much he tried, he was barely able to create half of a rune before the stability broke apart.

He eventually gave up and put his textbook away so he could get a few hours of sleep. He and Mil were planning on going hunting in the morning to complete another mission and he needed his rest for the creature that they were going after.
