Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Wyne saw the appearance of the Silverback and knew this was going to be the hardest battle he had been in for a while. With most of the blood cleaned up from the battle, he could smell, he could smell that they were being watched by other senior students.

'Do we use our bloodline abilities to finish this fast or do we take it down by hand?'

Wyne was thinking about the benefits of each type of fight and what problems they would lead to in the future but the ape did not give him long to think. He beat on his chest before rushing to battle the pair.

Wyne and Mil shot arrows at the creature but they simply broke against its skin without slowing him down.

"Why did we think that would work?" Wyne asked while putting away his bow and charging ahead

"Always anomalies. We had hope," Mil laughed it away while running right behind him with her chakrams in hand

Wyne ducked under the first before giving a heavy straight to its abdomen. The Silver Demonback let out a roar of pain and frustration before slamming down at him. Wyne was barely able to dodge but the wind from the blow still knocked him a few meters away.

The Silver Demonback was about to charge after him when it saw Mil approaching out of the corner of its eye. She threw her chakrams towards his face but the creature was able to duck before either was able to damage him.

Although Mil's attack did not land, it did give Wyne the opportunity to regain his balance while he circled around the creature's back. Mil caught both her chakrams before splitting one down the middle and using both blades as daggers. Wyne and Mil attacked from both sides to try and wear the creature down but their plan was futile. Even as they landed blows on the ape for 5 minutes straight, Mil's chakram could barely cut the skin while Wyne's blows did not cause any heavy damage.

The seniors saw that the ape was covered in blood but they knew that all the wounds were shallow.

"Those two are pretty good. They survived this long without any spells or enchanted weapons."

"They should be running out of steam soon. 500 points say they are going to lose in the next minute."

"You're on! I got 2 minutes on them."

"Get me in for 3 minutes then."

Sally looked at her friends and shook her head. Even with its current strength, the Silver Demonback had yet to land a blow on them.

'Their coordination is perfect. Each time one goes in for a blow, the other has just finished their own and distracted the creature. They are also moving around and not standing in a single place so it hasn't been able to get a drop of their movements. It looks like they were testing out their skills so now it should be time for them to finish it.'

"Double the amount and I will bet that they will win in the next few minutes," Sally told her friends. 'Afterall, they have to get to class in 30 minutes and need to make it out of here before that.'

The others looked at Sally stunned, before grinning. She usually stayed away from bets and always won her duels so they could never get points out of her. This would be the first time they could steal some points.

"Bet!"

"Deal."

"I'll be sure to hold you to it, boss lady."

Sally waved her hand at her friends, not paying them any mind. 4000 points were nothing to her if she lost but she was pretty sure that she was about to earn 4000 instead.

"30 minutes till class. Holy rage?" Mil asked as she dodged another blow

"Figured it was around that time. Let's do it!" Wyne backed away while his eyes began to glow red, prepared to use his bloodline ability

Mil took one large leap backward before her hands were covered in white light that transferred over to her chakram-daggers. Red electricity began to emit from Mil's eyes as they lost focus while her body was covered in a red aura.

The seniors were shocked. What, they thought, the two 1st-year students had activated were the low-tier curse Madness and mid-tier spell Elemental Weapon. The former gave someone increased strength, agility, and pain tolerance while also making them attack anyone they could see while the latter was an Alchemy spell that would cover one's weapon in a magical energy of their choice.

"How can he use Madness?"

"You're worried about Madness? That girl just used Elemental Weapon that only a few 3rd years can use."

"Boss, just what the fuck are those two?"

Sally smiled when she heard their question.

"They are two 1st years who were sent to hunt magical beasts alone when they were only 12 years old. Don't underestimate them," Sally decided to tell them a bit about the past that Wyne and Mil had shared with her.

"Oh. But also don't tell anyone else. We wouldn't want to ruin the surprise for the other seniors, would we?" Sally added after thinking about it

Her friends laughed at her cruel joke. They had already heard rumors of a few senior students ready to pick fights with them since they stole the first mission clear achievement. It would be bad if they got scared off cause they heard that the pair could use spells already.

"No, we wouldn't."

"I'll be sure to egg some of the other guys on so we can make some money."

"Great idea. I know a few arrogant bastards that could be taught a lesson."

"Hehe. Blake just broke up with me too for some White Magic bitch. Wonder if they can kick their asses for me."

The seniors were thinking about how they could profit from their cute juniors, no longer worried about the points they just bet or if the duo could survive the encounter. The battle was pretty much over.

Silver Demonbacks had a weakness to light magic and fire magic but since they wanted to keep the fur in the best condition, Mil had only used light magic on her blades.

The battle turned from two hunters trying to take down an apex predator to two apex predators battling against one another. And Mil was winning.

The duo began exchanging blows with one another. The Silver Demonback swung wildly as he tried to land a blow on the nimble beastmen but her agility made it impossible to land a blow. She, on the other hand, was able able to cut his body several times. Each of these blows were much deeper than the ones she did before using their bloodline abilities.

Madness gave Mil as big of an increase as all of the souls the Silverback had absorbed. Along with her light magic weapons, she was easily able to overpower it and take its head.

With her prey dead, Mil turned to attack Wyne but he ended his ability which caused Mil to regain her sanity. She looked at the dead Silverback beneath her and shook her head.

"I hate that ability. Takes all of the fun out of the fight," she complained while jumping off and cutting through the ape's chest to get the magic core from it.

Silver Demonbacks were highly sought after because of their unique ability. Not only would it have a magical core but the core increased in purity, the more souls it had borrowed power from. This was why most mages would kill all the comrades first so they could gain the biggest profit from the creatures.

Once she got out the core, Mil summoned the two normal Demonbacks from her space to give to Wyne. He then cut off their ears so they could have their mission requirements. Then they stored the bodies in their cuffs so they could head out.

"That's all 7 ears. Let's hurry back," Mil wanted to leave the forest and take a quick shower before class. She could not be in class and be covered in blood all day. She could only do one at a time.
