l sat on the wooden stool beside my mom, I stayed by her side all night, thinking about what my father had said. He told me he was going somewhere to get the money . I asked him where but he refused to tell me anything else . I felt a little bit uncertain.
I eventually fell asleep while sitting on the stool. Finally it was morning, I felt the ray of sunshine passing through the window hitting my cheeks. My mother was still fast asleep. I went downstairs to prepare something for her to eat when she wakes up.
I prepared her favorite soup , and a cup of tea .I went straight up stairs to give it to her.
By the time I had gotten to her room she was already awake . I took a sit on the wooden stool and presented the tray in which I had placed the Soup and tea . She looked at me and smiled .
"I don't have much time left" She coughed .
"But I want you to know that I love you all so much" She added .
"don't say things like that, you are not going to die" I protested . She looked at me and smiled once more, I was glad I was able to make her smile .
"You are so beautiful" She said looking at my lovely deep blue eyes . She smiled even more , she then proceeded to touching my long curly brown hair "your hair is so soft" She added .
"sometimes I doubt if I was the one who gave birth to you " She wailed.
"what can i say I got my charms from you " I said as I fed her the soup and gave her the cup of tea .
I was about to take my leave when she said. "Emily whatever happens promise me you will take care of the farm and your siblings" She uttered, I turned around .
"I promise" I nodded , but to be honest I didn't really take her seriously , I went to the kitchen to return the dishes.
It was already getting late, my father was nowhere to be found . I was about to prepare another tea when the door suddenly opened . It was my dad, he had arrived with the doctor. They went inside the room where my mom was staying and shut the door . I immediately left what I was doing and moved to the room .
I stood out side the close door , standing anxiously. My feet were trembling this was a new feeling for me. I tried to convince myself that everything was going to be fine but part of me was still scared.
Finally the doctor slowly opened the door and looked at me and shook his head in disappointment. There was no need for words , I knew it could only mean on thing.
"We were too late" Those were the words he said to me . I fell to my knees crying . I was devastated my whole world suddenly fell apart , my mother was my best friend.
My father just locked himself in his room for days . I was all alone , I had to fulfill my mom promise .
I picked up the responsibility of the farm and took good care of my siblings. My father wasn't of much help . Ever since my mom died, he hadn't been the same ever since .
It has been a few month since she passed away.
"I'm doing well mom . I am taking care of the farm just like I promised" I said before dropping the bouquet of flowers on her grave.
I went Inside to prepare dinner. we sat round the dinner table to eat . (knock! knock!) .
Suddenly there was a furious knock on the door. " Who could that be " I wondered.
"I'll get it" I offered .
"no , just keep eating I'll get it" My father said .
My dad stood up from the table and went to open the door.It was Mr Jerry with two of his Marchants .
