I *******************
~Liam's POV~
I knew I could trust Charlotte, we had been friends ever since we were kids and when I and Alex lost our mother, she was there for me. I began to fall for her when there was no one by my side but her.
She wasn't always like this, on the outside she seemed tough and acted like a monster, but on the inside, there was this sweet girl. At least that was how it was in the past.
As I watched Charlotte display her electrical discharge, I took in deep breaths cause I knew if I missed those volts and didn't grab it with the gauntlets, not only me but most of us in this room would be affected.
I had my eyes shut when Charlotte discharged, but opened them when I felt this shock, it wasn't as intense as I expected, it was somewhat ticklish and I knew it was because of the gauntlet, I gave the idea but I didn't expect it to work.
I was in awe as I watched the Electricity circulating the gauntlet, it was like I was bending Electricity itself and that wasn't even my power.
"Quick, let it go, the gauntlet can't take that much Electricity!" I heard someone shout, it was the cute chubby girl.
Just as she said, the gauntlet circuits began to fry and I could feel the shock becoming more intense so I discharged it out the window, passing it to the sky.
The crowd applauded in awe while Charlotte was all smiles, I felt like I could have lost my life if not for that chubby girl.
I watched as Charlotte took all the credit and glory, but I wasn't into it. Charlotte deserved it since she was the one who powered it up anyway, I just gave the idea and helped to put the pieces together.
Teacher Wayne applauded and walked towards us. "That was amazing, you created a gauntlet that suppresses electrical discharge, and not only that, it also bends electricity." He said to Charlotte.
"You guys are smarter than I thought." He said again.
"But next time be careful, you couldn't control the discharge because you overdosed it, it should be limited." Teacher Wayne said to us.
The class applauded us as we walked back to our podium. I didn't know why but I felt a tug at my heart, I wondered why everything I did wasn't appreciated, I tried to convince myself Charlotte deserved all the credit because she used her electrical powers to power up the gauntlet, even if I wasn't as smart as her, I was the one who came up with the idea and I designed and put the pieces together.
"What's wrong?" She asked, noticing my long face.
"Nothing, I can't wait for this class to end," I said and she chuckled before turning her attention back to teacher Wayne.
My attention went to the cute chubby girl who saved my life. I watched as she listened to Teacher Wayne attentively. She turned to me and I saw her stiffen under my gaze, I couldn't help but chuckle, I owed her one.
"Next." Teacher Wayne said and Alex was the first to step out, Bea followed suit, and then the chubby girl.
I saw the nervous look on the chubby girl's face, she looked uneasy and also like she wanted to drop whatever she was holding and leave. She turned to Bea and Alex, I saw Alex whisper something to her and then she smiled. I couldn't help but be curious about what he said to her.
"Hello everyone, I am Ranella Whitlock alongside..."
"Beatrice Richards," Bea said.
"Alex Rogers," Alex said. So far, they were the only team that introduced themselves.
"Our invention is this headband," Bea said, raising and showing the headband designed with wires in a zig-zag shape around the piece of cloth.
"A headband, seriously?" Charlotte asked and burst out in laughter and the whole class joined her.
I watched as the chubby girl took a series of deep breaths and when she opened her eyes, I saw determination flash through them.
"Not just any headband, Charlotte. This headband is designed specifically for telepaths. This headband is designed with a device that amplifies telepathic abilities, it enhances the range and clarity of telepathic communication." The chubby girl said and I was impressed even before the main show began.
"This could be useful for long-distance communication or for amplifying the strength of your telepathic abilities," Beatrice said.
"Not only that, this device enables telepaths to communicate with creatures also, like fouls of the air, or sea creatures." The chubby girl called Ranella said and gasps echoed in the room, the audience began to murmur and even her teammates looked shocked.
"What a useless lie, that headband will help telepaths communicate with creatures? Ha." Charlotte said and laughed mockingly at her. For some reason I wanted the chubby girl to prove Charlotte wrong and her device should be exactly as she had described.
I watched as a cute chubby girl walked to Alex and put the headband around his head, Alex hated it when someone else touched his hair but I couldn't fathom why he would let the chubby girl touch his hair, he could have taken the headband from her and wear it himself, but he even squat lower so she could gain more access to his head. I looked over at VC and Leo and it looked like they also noticed because their eyes were wide like saucers as if they had just seen a ghost, although they did see some a moment ago.
She powered up the headband by clicking a button on the side. There was a whirling sound and Alex groaned in pain at first. I immediately stood up to attend to my brother.
"Are you okay?" she asked as she held Alex up steadily before he swayed off his feet.
"Am fine, it just came all at once," Alex said with an assuring smile. Which made me sit back down since he was okay.
"I can hear thoughts from afar," Alex said with a smile.
"We are not telepaths, how would we know he's not faking it?" Charlotte said bitterly.
"Alex doesn't lie," I said and I saw her roll her eyes. I knew her bitterness was directed at the chubby girl and not Alex.
"Am afraid Charlotte is right, we are not telepaths, how do we know you're telling the truth?" Teacher Wayne asked.
"Well, Dean Andrew is planning to host the prom dance sooner than usual," Alex said and Teacher Wayne stood up from his seat abruptly.
"That is true and he's discussing it with the other magical teachers right now." Teacher Wayne said, obviously impressed.
"Ok, so the communication from afar is confirmed, how about the creatures?" Charlotte asked again, I couldn't help but chuckle at her behavior.
The chubby girl walked up to Alex, holding his shoulders. The audience in the class began to murmur and Charlotte looked like she could spring forward any second and then drag the chubby girl out.
"What I'm about to ask of you might be extremely painful, but I need you to try and communicate with any creature close by," Ranella said with assuring eyes.
Alex nodded and then closed his eyes. His eyes were still closed after minutes and he wasn't opening them.
"It's been confirmed, that your headband of lies doesn't work on creatures so you can head back to your podium while Teacher Wayne marks the scores," Charlotte said impatiently.
"Please, let's give it a little time, maybe they're on their way." The chubby girl said.
"Learn to exercise patience Charlotte." Bea spat at Charlotte.
"We don't have time on our side Ranella, I'm afraid we have to wrap things up." Teacher Wayne said, standing up from his seat once again.
But just as he was about to take a step, birds flew in through the windows, accompanied by butterflies and rabbits. They went directly to Alex and he opened his eyes, he was grinning so hard, smiling from ear to ear. The entire class, even Charlotte ran out of words. Teacher Wayne just stood there with his mouth open and everyone watched as the creatures danced around Alex.
"I'm speechless, it's like you gave him another power entirely, only high-level telepaths could do this without an amplifier. But you managed to create one." Teacher Wayne said he looked extremely impressed.
Ranella quickly powered the device down when she noticed Alex getting weak, no one managed to catch that but me. It looked like the device amplifier sucks energy while working.
"I must say team four, this is very impressive, if you don't mind can I borrow the headband so I can brag to my fellow teachers that a student from my class created this?" Teacher Wayne asked and Ranella nodded with a smile. Teacher Waybe was about to take the headband from Alex's head when Alex stopped him.
"I'll do it myself." He said, taking off the band, which confirms he still doesn't like people touching his hair, but why did he let the chubby girl do so like it was nothing? And he had also been close to her recently, sitting and chatting with her.
Alex removed the band and placed it in Teacher Wayne's hand."I would like that back when you're done with it, sir." Alex said with a smile and Teacher Wayne nodded.
"Your marks will be given to you back in your classroom." Teacher Wayne said. We formed a line again, leaving our podiums and heading back to our classroom.
"Oh my gosh, you were awesome Ranell," Bea screamed in delight upon getting to the class.
"I didn't know you were that smart," Alex said with a smile.
"We all created that device. We were awesome." Ranella said, giving credit to them.
"What do you mean, I slept all through," Alex said.
"And I only passed stuff to you," Bea said. They were both giving the credit back to Ranella.
"It was your idea and your creation," Alex said, holding her shoulders and looking directly into her eyes. They had a short moment staring into each other's eyes.
